Two Live YMO videos. I previously posted Technopolis and Rydeen here. I managed to upload Technopolis to YouTube, but for Rydeen I imediately got the vilation of terms message after upload. Guessing it's on a blacklist? Anyway, here's Technopolis and 1000 Knives. I have one more coming sent my way via Pete; I'm waiting for his permission to put it up on YouTube. As soon as I do, I'll put up a post.

I saw an awesome video of YMO doing uptight and one of their originals on an american show on youtube, any idea where to find it again?

The equipment list on the back of BGM is the stuff they used on their '80 tour, much of it carrying over from what they used in the studio.
ReplyDeleteSony pays license fees and makes loads of money off the YMO catalogue so they want to protect one of their better business deals of late. I'm sure they will make more of the concerts available at least in Japan. For a short time circa 2000 Taiwanese bootleggers put out all the laser discs transfered to DVDs for a couple dollars each. A bunch of concerts (and "reunions") were professionally shot and released for broadcast and home video.
ReplyDeletep.s. as for YMO cover bands, there are a bunch in Japan. But it would be cute and potentially get some mild publicity in Japan if you aren't Japanese and pulled it off.

While not impossible, and it is clearly a hobby for some in Japan, what makes it a bit more tough is not only did the guys have the best chops in Japan, they had the budget to lug a whole lot of gear.

Are YMO albums - or even 'The Best Of' compilations - still available in major music retail stores like HMV these days? I intend to look out for them soon.
