Anonymous Posting

I have received a number of complaints about anonymous posters slamming others. As any given person can post multiple times under anonymous, it's hard to tell whether the comments are coming from one disgruntled person or many. The one thing I do know is I don't see the complaints come in as often on lists like the Analog Heaven mailing list. Why? Probably because your name/alias is tied to the comment.

Moving forward I will be removing anonymous comments that are blatent slams on others. However, I will leave anonymous comments on for the more constructive stuff that comes in, so if you have something useful to contribute, and wish to anonymously, please do.

  1. So, wouldn't it be just as easy to register a "fake" name and still be anonymous? You might as well make it a policy to delete anything demeaning said, no matter if it's true or not.

  5. I'd be interested to see the comments that people are getting offended by as I visit daily but don't recall ever seeing stuff like that.

  6. i like matrixsynth because it's not an ego contest like analog heaven.

that's what having your "name" tied to your opinion is all about. so those guys who consider the internet their social scene can continue their war of the words.

i really appreciate your allowing us to post anonymously. i really like matrixsynth, the posts, and the opinions, and see no need to validate who said what or who did what. please keep it that way. not all of us want to make a name for ourselves online.

  7. Sure, it's pretty painless to sign up for a blogger account, and I'd wager most of the anon comments around here are from regulars - the synthgeek Venn Diagram can only be so large. Besides, it's nice to pin a name to a general perspective around here after a while.

That said, keep the anonymous posting capabilities on, simply 'cause you'll lose a lot of feedback - both good & bad - once that threshold is added.

  8. Thanks. The anonymous posting will definitely stay until the day it simply becomes unmanagable. At this point it's far from that. Synthbaron, yep, I thought about that. At this point it would be a bit of a chore to set up multiple accounts followed by logging in and out just to flame someone, so if someone really wants to do this, they will have to work at it. If that becomes a problem, as I stated before, if I get numerous complaints on a particular comment I will consider removing it. If I leave it I'll explain why. I still am against censorship except for when it come to the obvious things like explicit porn, racial hate, etc. Theoritically no one should have a problem with the new policy. I will continue to be pretty moderate and will not go on a deleting rampage. The types of comments I'm referring to are those than can be damaging to someones reputation and again at this point only the anonymous posts are subject. Which means your relatively safe synthbaron. : ) The difference is we know where the comment is coming from in that case.

  9. Anyone needing to post multiple times anonymously and pretending to be different people to support their opinion probably don't have anything that important to say anyway - I wouldn't worry about it...

  10. Also, this is a forward moving policy. I have not removed any prior comments.

  11. How do we know anonymous isn't actually one person? It's the same name for each post...

  12. Where should complaints be submitted?

  13. "The difference is we know where the comment is coming from in that case. "

This isn't true. Anyone can make up a user name and we would still have no idea who that person is. I think Matrix just needs to remove comments that are obvious flamebait.

  14. Complaints can be sent directly to me in email or in the body of the comments of the post with the questionable comment. I'd prefer in the comments of the post so others can chime in and the poster in question can defend him or herself. Note that everyone is entitled to their opinion even if you do not agree with it, and censorship is generally bad, so use judgement before sending in a complaint. It needs to be blatent trolling or harrassment rather than opinion for example.

To reduce spam, comments for posts older than one week are not displayed until approved, usually same day. Do not insult people. For items for sale, do not ask if it is still available. Check the auction link and search for the item. Auctions are from various sellers and expire over time. Posts remain for the pics and historical purposes. This site is meant to be a daily snapshot of some of what was out there in the world of synths.
