Scott Metzger sent in these shots and a link to a thread on Velvet Acid Christ documenting a Yamaha CS80 Kenton MIDI retrofit. I never realized the front panel of the CS80 was actually wood. Title link takes you to the thread, you will need to sign in, but when you do you will see a ton of shots and information on the project.

ReplyDeleteYou do not,i repeat,DO NOT,post pictures of CS 80s with electric drills in them.That turkey won't fly baby. So far this has been my favourite blog bar none but that is just to cruel.I'm calling the Department of Homeland Security to have this filth removed from the web. There has to be a point where we all put our foot down and say:This just too much.We won't stand for it.

ReplyDeleteWhat's funny about Jupiter 8's comment is I have actually passed on a few posts for that reason. There was a recent synth on the bay in such bad shape I thought how the heck could someone have let it get to that. The images were nice, but I just couldn't get myself to put it up. This on the other hand is constructive so ultimately it's not too bad. Kind of like watching surgery. The image does illicit a response though. : )

ReplyDeleteThis is David, the featured CS-80 torturer! Adding the MIDI kit is definitely not for the faint of heart. I've worked on / owned three CS80s over the years, and this is still not easy.

ReplyDeleteMy friend got a Midi'ed CS80 about 10 years ago. I used to listen in astonishment as he played it via his Roland A-80 controller. It sounded nothing like a CS80... more like a bunch of puny CS-5's or worse. The keyboard on the CS80 should not be taken lightly.
ReplyDeleteBut I guess the 1990's was all about sticking Midi on everything, as if it would solve the world's problems.
The front panel isn't made of wood but a lot of the casing is. Obviously the drill went through the panel and into the wood under it.
