PAiA 4700/2700 Modular Synthesizer

via this auction

Details:
"This auction is for the 6 PAiA modulars cases in the picture, number from 1 to 6. These are part of my collection that I am selling. Modules have been tested and here are the details of the 6 systems. I will also include 3 PAiA 4700 keyboards, one will have the computer system, the others CV. I will also include copies of the manuals for the modules so you can do a full restoration.

I have another system that I am keeping. If you'd like to hear and see what a PAiA can do, go to www.musicofsoftware.com and look in the video section. When these systems are calibrated up they sound very close to a moog modular.

system #1: these are all pretty much 2700 modules. most of them work. one or two dont or just need calibration.

system #2: requires external psu, jack included. this cabinet is painstakingly restored and calibrated. one of the VCO square outputs is not working. everything else is good.

system #3: all modules are not tested as they are not connected to the PSU rails. the reverb needs a tank. there is no reason to suspect they dont work - they look fine.

system #4: VCO 1 not working, VCF 1 needs calibration, EG leds not working (but the EG works), PSU led not working, Reverb need tank

system #5: the 2700 VCO triangle output is dead

system #6: VCO 1 not working, VCF needs calibration, sequencer mostly works but seems to have a short. this is typical of these sequencers as there is a lot of places where shorts can happen. a short doesnt damage anything, it just makes the step sequencing unreliable so i am sure its just a matter of seeking out the shorts and fixing them."

  1. Either fix the modules or the price.

  2. completely untested as-is 4700's without the sequencer sell on ebay for on average $600US. with a sequencer they sell for $800 and up to $1200. this is without keyboards. 4 of the systems are stock 4700's without sequencers or $2400, plus one with a sequencer, total $3200 plus another 4700 system with 4 vcos etc fully tested, calibrated and upgraded say its worth $700, thats $3900. plus 3 keyboards that sell on ebay for average of $65 each, total $4100. plus the manuals and you know the status of the systems right off the bat instead potentially getting a system that is in need of major repairs.

so i think the price is decent. thanks for the comment.

  3. Wasn't this system listed for a lot less but the auction didn't get any bids? I don't think anyone would spend this kind of money for anything Paia.

    Paia's are great fun modulars.

    They've got souls.

  5. The problem is that the auction text lists several things not working and untested, then says it's not junk and has a top dollar price tag.
It come across sort of lame after counting 5 not workings, you know.
Why not fix it all up and then sell it?

  6. Okay. I bid on it. Let's see how that goes.

The problems seem pretty minor to me, and its a good sounding system from the videos.

I need another modular for the dining room anyway.

Plus, it's close enough to pick up.

And I mean, check out: http://www.musicofplexus.com/paia4700/index.html

That's so crazy. How can you not love that modular?

  8. best of luck doktor future! you are right, the problems are minor. the paia modulars that end up on ebay always sell untest, at least the ones i've tracked over the that two years. i didnt want to put this system up like that. i wanted to at least indicate what wasnt working. so i tested everything and accounted for it. that way you know what you are getting. paia modules are easy to fix, with some electrtronics knowledge. if you cant do it, you can send them paia and for a nominal fee, they will fix them for you.

there are enough working modules in this system that you can move them around and have a nice working configuration while working on the ones that dont work.

i decided to sell this as it was instead of fixing every module because if i did that i would have to jack up the price considerable. cabinet #2 is one that i have repaired, restored and upgraded with newer components so you have a reference point for what is possible.

the other paia that was refered to, that was posted cheaper, was a 'local pickup' only in california. i asked the guy about shipping it and i got no response. it was a smaller system than i am selling.

anyway, good luck and if you can pick up, thats great. we can work it all out at the end of the auction.
