  1. That's a very early Jup-8.
If the roland serial# chart I put together for a while ago is correct, it's the 18th unit off the production line (February 1981).

In case you weren't already aware the serial# on the Jup-8 started on *100* instead of *000*.

  3. Early serial number JP8's aren't as desirable as later ones. You may wanna lower your price.

  4. uhh earlier ones have a way creamier sound. i bought it for that reason. super stable tuning too. but listen to the clips, i think they more than speak for them selves..

they go for about 3500 in la. ahahah i know, so man i think 2650 is a great deal.

  5. Calibrating an early JP8 is a nightmare.

  6. I just sold my Jupiter 8 MIDI (in much better condition that that one) for same reason.. Love the Jupiter 8 wild sounds, but have gone modular.

    Noob.

  8. Well different synths go for different rates. I'm not jp8less ahahahahah. my band mate has one. And a minimoog. i thought i'd sell the things we both had, because its a waste. I wanted a modular so bad.

i love the juptier 8, it is my favorite polysynth. And old creamy ones do sound better than my band mates 14 bit version...

And that one is in great shape, we took un flattering pictures of it that really highlighted all the flaws, but under normal lighting, it looks great..

there person who bought it will love it, i sure as hell did...

  9. Oh, and hey, give me the credits for the sound demos, i'm hexfix93 of velvet acid christ...

i'm going to document making my new record, with modulars and all kinds of stuff, so i'm sure i will show up here on matrix synth a lot.. and youtube..

  10. Sound Demo's are the best I have ever heard. Glad they are around for people to check out. You did a great . Anyone saying how the Jupiter 8 Software version from Arutira is just as good as the real thing, will be proven wrong.

  11. Thanks hex. I updated the post with credit and a link back to your site. Let me know if you want me to mention the vids coming or other, and definitely let me know when they are in. If they show synths I'll gladly put them up.

  12. Thanks a lot man, i will put matrixsynth in my main links at the top of every page on my site.. i'll do that tonight after i get back form my friend studio, he's showing me a track with the jupiter 8, minimoog, mks70, and a solina he did. cant wait.. i love the analogy goodness..

this is the best blog out there for sytnh info, analog heaven is boring now, sonic state has no one it seems, analog haven forum is not very active, my forum does ok in the gear porn section, but this is the most informative synth stuff on the net.. thanks a lot. i am a huge analog freak.. and this place hits the spot.

hey man i got a lot of sound clips from my sh2, and micromoog. i could let you add those too..

And yeah, software sucks, always sounds like it has fuzzy socks on, and lacks mid and high end presence. the punch suck, and the sounds don't jump out of the speakers as much as the real deal does. another thing that is really under rated about the jupiter is the resonance and the 12db filter, and in my clips i showcase that a lot, and a lot of pwm sounds...

and in audio, 20% worse is huge.

I will contribute many things to this site if you'd like...

  13. One more thing people often forget about all roland synths. THE PRESETS SUCK MAJOR PIG SACK!

So in the hands of a bad programmer or presetville, the jupiter, or the junos and and jx synths can sound absolutely gross and boring as all hell..

  14. Thanks Hex. Anything synth related you want me to put up, just shoot me an email at matrixsynth at hotmail. I always give credit and put a via link to the source. Half of what this site is about is promoting/exposing others. That's how I found stuff out there years ago and it's how I still find stuff today.

  16. cool i sent you a mail with tons of mp3s for the sh2, micromoog that is modified, and my old microwave. all mp3s. plus a couple of photos..

  17. Why do some people think that early ones sound better? The change from 12 bit to 14 bit allowed for quicker tuning, but I never noticed a hair of change in the sound.

I was able to do a straight A/B test of an early one and a much later one and there was no difference what so ever except that the 14 bit tuned in half the time (and the variable split point). This would make sense since there were no changes in the actual componants (VCO/VCF/VCA, etc) throughout the whole production run.

  18. No two jupiter 8s sound the same, i've played on 3, they all are slightly different. maybe its just how they age, and the condition and calibration that makes them sound different.. who knows. all i know is the older ones i've messed with sounded creamier..

  19. Hex is right.. no two pieces of audio equipment are EVER the same they all have slight variations just ask some of the greats.. they can tell what kind of batteries you put in their distortion pedal

  20. Does anyone know at what serial number the Jup-8's changed to the 14 bit DAC?
