Sound Destruction Unit

flickr by farnea.
"DIY modular synth made putting together a lot of things I've built in the last times. There is a Weird Sound Generator, a Crackle Box, a random pattern generator, some filters (cutoff, square to sine), a gate controller, a Vactrol based controller, optical sensors and body contacts, mixing and power stuff."

Title link takes you to more shots including this one with mouse overs with more info on each section. Check out the key on the top left.

  2. just curious, how is this circuit bending? i know that term gets thrown around a lot these days, but its actually very specifically and narrowly defined by the man who coined the term. it dosent include building your own circuits, no matter how noisy or random the result.

i think this deserves a lot more credit than "circuit bending"

    true.

it could be considered bending if he took those existing designs, then built them, then bent them further but that could just be considered modification couldn't it.

nice work regardless, wonder what was used for the pattern generator?

  5. Well I know what does Circuit Bending mean, and I have modified a couple of toy keyboards too.

But after I built this gear, I've started using the same technique on my own circuits or circuits I've built from found schematics.
I've put touch contacts over freq and filter pots, I've added light sensor and vactrol over circuit not born with them.

Please pass me the circuit bend definition, maybe not in a no strong meaning...

    greetings

  7. Make it from scratch, it's DIY.
Modify something for a deliberate purpose, it's a mod.
Make wild guesses to impart unknown outcomes, it's circuit bending.

  8. well, it's quite unpredictable when I touch some oscillators wire with my wet fingers. Anyway, finally some videos:
