  2. Some of the sound effects for the second Star Trek movie were done on an Alpha Synthauri.
I was recently told this by synthesist/composer Alan Howarth.

  3. I had a Soundchaser, which used the same hardware. Seemed pretty magical at the time.

The Mountain oscillator boards were appallingly noisy...they leaked audio that sounded like you'd laid a 2x4 across the length of the keyboard.

The light pen was pretty cool though...entering and editing your notes on on-screen staff paper almost made notation enjoyable.

  5. Dang. I'd almost be willing to fork over $400 (Canadian, no less) for the Apple ][ alone. I've got a crapload of old games on 5" diskettes & I'd be interested in seeing if any of 'em still worked.

But throwing the Syntauri in free... in working condish... makes me sorely wish I lived closer to Montreal.

  7. Dave, I'm sure you could play Oregon Trail using an Apple II emulator.

I'm all about the Bruce Lee, Lode Runner, Archon Bilestode, Bard's Tale, Ultima IV, etc, etc...

  8. So I have an Apple ][, and those noisy Mountain Computer boards, but no keyboard for it - any suggestions for what I can use as a substitute?

As I recall, the original keyboard came with its own plug-in card, but will any MIDI keyboard work?

    1. I have all of the hardware for the Alpha Syntauri but my software has all blown away. I'm looking for a source of software to drive the system. Any contacts would be appreciated. I can be emailed at LL.Brown@att.net

  9. I have a alpha syntauri synth that has been sat around for years... Can anyone shed any light on it as I have no idea how it is used etc? How much is it worth? I am looking to sell it to free up some room. My email is bodsterbug@aol.com.

    Here are a few pics:
