isn't that redundant?
ReplyDeleteI like noise and crunch, I have tons of little distortion boxes, but I have yet to hear a single musically-useful result come out of a Metasonix product. Ever.
ReplyDeleteEverything they make sounds like complete ass.
excuse me for being another anonymous poster but i think you have to admit that this demo at least shows the metasonix products working in a more melodic and "typical synth setting" compared to most of the noise demos we hear. i was glad to hear this and it's a welcome change from what i was expecting. well ok it's still pretty noisy! but it was interesting for sure
ReplyDeleteanonymous 6:35 carries the stench of Synthbaron. It doesn't matter if it's him or some other willfully ignorant troll. Either you've tried to use one and failed or you've never used one. Either way, this isn't your concern. Go to the Metasonix sub-forum at the Muffwiggler site. There are plenty of examples there of more than gain. The distortion aspect sells a lot of units, but it is only a fragment of what is possible. And please, enough of the term "musically useful". I don't find tired Wendy Carlos imitators to be musically useful. Thanks Don. Thanks Bob. NOW I can finally play Bach ...
ReplyDeletethe sample's OK.. doesn't know whether it wants to be sequence-y electronica or psychedelic noise, though. i'd prefer full-on wall-of-sound timbre probing noise crunch, myself.
ReplyDeletefrom the get-go, their stuff has been marketed as raw-sounding analog - seems like that's their M.O. there you go... if you don't like that type of sound, slap a cathedral reverb on a DX7 bell patch or play a minimoog through a delay and be happy.
I'm just sayin, certain things do certain types of sounds well.. and it seems like that's the case here. that's why you have metasonix purchasers discovering the potential of noise-sounds, which I honestly hope they continue to pursue.. albeit in an even LESS musical way. :)
I agree, the Metasonix boxes can produce some very interesting and very musical sounds. I'm thinking of some of the FM software/hardware setups I have tried that can sound very musical or just fly off the rails into "sounds like complete ass" mode.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see more "quiet" work done with the Metasonix boxes. Anyone have one to lend for a short while? ;)
I hail Eric of Metasonix. Few synth modules today can scare cats. His certainly can.
ReplyDeleteAnything that keeps those blasted cats away makes me happy happy.
well here goes....
ReplyDeleteI know I talk about metasonix modules more than people care to hear,
and I also post audio examples everywhere of noisy stuff that doesnt excite many people, but I have to respond to this one.

Listen to the first track-
Opening A New Door,(Closing An Old)
There is TM-3 fed into TX-1,TM-3 into TM-1 thanks to Muff Wiggler.
There is the resonator used as a sinewave fed into TM-1>TM-7.
All the guitars with the exeption of the very end has the TM-7 at the end.
I'm sorry to spam or look like a salesman/whatever those people are that push things,
but I think that sounds pretty damn "musical" and "melodic."
And if you look in the right places you can find other tracks that have the TM-1 and TM-7 all over them.(pretty much everything starting from Janruary 2007)
Everything from extreme to mild settings, SO many uses in mild settings that you probly cant tell its there, which is why its so fun to abuse them and use them in ways that I dont use other gear...Then you can definitly hear it...I think..
