  1. Or the third option:

anal-retentive douche bags' sweaty fingers pawing on synths

  2. I can't choose between them, they both make me vomit mustard sauce with dill juice for days and days on end without interuption. But, I know if I had either, I'd probably have mine right up there with the rest.

  3. a really big cat or a baby which dispenses a lot of hair. that's a tie.

  4. BABIES! Without a doubt babies are worse!

  5. cats get your synth filled with fur. i have a siamese that insists on jumping right onto synths while your using them. then cant stand on all the knobs and scrambles away, messing up damn near every setting all at once. cats are definitely worse.

  6. I've had both. Babies are little mountain climbers. They see the panel as the wall they must conquer. Cats you have fur, litter, and potential scratches. Both are bad, but... I think babies scare me a bit more as although I'd hate a scratch or to have clean out fur, a broken off knob or lever would be pretty bad, although one of my cats did chew up the knobs on my Multi-Trak. Yep, I am guilty. That was the one and only time. Cheek rubs on my synths when they visit was pretty much where I drew the line. Fortunately none of my cats wanted to climb on any of my synths, just the cheek rub.

As for babies, they also like the red buttons, or those that look significantly different than the others, which typically are the write buttons. I've had a few "Nooooo not that button!" moments. You'd think you could just play for them and they'd sit there and enjoy it (low volume levels of course), but noooo, they have to go mountain climbing and pressing red buttons after randomly sliding the controls around.

  7. A slightly sad side note to this, the day I had to put JD down, I played my synths for him one last time. It was a ritual we always did. I'd sit down to play and he'd come in to listen and then rub his cheeks on my synths purring away. Sometimes I'd get annoyed and push him away, but this time I would have let him piss all over everything if it meant I could keep him longer. It was difficult for him to walk around but he got up and rubbed his cheek on the side of my synths like he used to when he was feeling better. I got *that* last moment with him and I will never forget it. It's funny but when the time comes, things really come into perspective. He was a cool cat. Here's a picture of him with the Multi-Trak. He's going through some of my patches.

  8. BTW, it was Mona who chewed the knobs, not JD. Leo was a pretty cool cat as well. Most cats are if you treat them well.

  9. Haha, JD looks like my old cat Moonshadow. I think babies are FAR worse. Fur is easy to clean, slobber and puke are not i'm sure. Baby digs hand in diaper then rubs your nice shiny synths!

  10. Cats get fur into synths no matter what (maybe not those weird hairless cats). Cat fur inevitably gets all over a house even in places where they don't hang-out.

The behavior of a little human is not as predictable or generalized as a pet cat. Not to make Matrix feel bad or anything, but not all babies "climb" synths. My daughter has always been very gentle with my gear. She carefully explores the panels twisting knobs, pressing buttons and plugging jacks. Believe me, if I saw her treating the gear violently I would keep her away from it, but she just plain doesn't.

  11. Nor do all cats climb on gear. My cat Luna has very little interest herself in studio equipment or climbing on stuff, most of her "cat-and-synth" pics have been on the bean-bag chair in the studio, where she likes to chill out (and who wouldn't), or sitting on my lap.

I remember a site way back (nothing to do with synths) that measured kittens, puppies and human babies on a variety of scales, including cleanliness and behavior, and human babies came in dead last (though I kinda think puppies would be worse myself). But of course, internet polls can be a bit "unscientific"

  12. i have wood floors at this house. there are literally fur tumbleweeds rolling around. they roll under my desk and get caught in my mess of powerstrips and wallwarts. they form the "third cat" named fire-hazard. sweep swiffer sweep swiffer

  13. cats and synths are a combination that never fails to make me giggle embarassingly. On the other hand, I didn't even know people take pictures of their babies on/near/in the same room as their synths.
