George Harrison's Electronic Sound

I'm finally getting around to reading Analog Days, The Invention and Impact of The MOOG Synthesizer. I just read about George Harrison's solo project, Electronic Sound which featured the MOOG Modular synthesizer. I read about the cartoon version of the modular on the album cover and decided to look it up. Here it. You can find a couple more shots on this site.

Recording info:
Side 1: "February 1969 - Recorded at Esher in Merrie England with the assistance of Rupert and Jostick, The Siamese Twins. George - Moog Synthesiser"

Side 2: "November 1968 - Recorded in California with the assistance of Bernie Krause. George - Moog Synthesiser" Amazon links for each: Electronic SoundAnalog Days

  2. I bought a copy back in the late'70s on the Italian Apple label (wait, I think it's on Zapple - the experimental offshoot). I still have the vinyl, but I also found an official Apple release on CD. The liner notes consisted of a Harrison quote to the effect of: I guess it's Avant Garde. As in Avant Garde a clue. Anyway, maybe the CD is still out there... As a teen, I loved it, and still do! Oh, you can download the whole recording for forty two cents at this site:

It also has a couple thirty second previews...

  4. I've always thought this was some sort of mean spirited counter-joke to what George must have thought was completely awful rubbish John and Yoko were making at roughly the same time. Something like "if they can put that out and it sells, people will buy anything!". This record lacks any of the beautiful sensitive touch George's moog work showed on Abbey Road. It's totally awful stuff. He must have really hated experimental electronic music at this point in his life. It shows in every possible way on this record. Horrid. And totally disrespectful to Bernie Krauss to boot.

    I have it. It stinks.
Come on over if you don't believe me.
    I'll play it for ya.
Should make good ebay fodder in a few decades though.

  6. This is a terrrible release. I keep it just for collectability someday. It is definitely not indicative of the quality and class George typically went for.
