"It is basically (on top of being one of the most insane toys ever given to children) as oscillator lfo noise maker envelope trigger and distortion all in one little box. Now mine is all original which is cool, but the thing to really take this thing to another level is to fit it with a quarter inch output. The small built in speaker does not do it justice as I have heard one unleashed through real speakers and it basically can sound like an EMS Synthi. Seriously this thing is mean and angry... You can check this link out to hear a very brief sample."

I wouldn't compare it to an EMS Synthi. It's just a SN76477 in a box.
ReplyDeleteNot exactly the bees knees.
Holy fuck! $350? No way.
ReplyDeleteI want some of what he's smoking.
My first synth!
ReplyDeleteYeah, what the heck is he thinking. $450 BIN. You could buy a small Doepfer for that.
Why do I want this thing so terribly much?
ReplyDeleteOr you could buy a Music From Outer Space WSG, which is a LOT cheaper and better.
ReplyDeleteYou are all correct on this one, definitely not worth the asking price.
ReplyDeleteAny bets that some poor soul will swallow this thing?
Sounds like my broken modular.
ReplyDeleteI build my first synth with a SN76477.
ReplyDeleteWas a very cheap and complete IC.
Hey Dave,
ReplyDeleteIf you want it so bad, I'll sell you an SN76477 for the low low price of only $349.
I got a whole tube of them! I'M GOING TO BE RICH!
Heh, that asking price is hilarious. Wonder if this means the miniorgan site is slowly becoming the kitsch gear equivalent of the Nurse With Wound album list - zombie collectors coveting everything on it site unseen/ears unheard.
ReplyDeleteOh, my god. The memories of this frigging thing. I would totally pwn this thing when I went over to my firend Erik Wollmar's house. I frigging loved that.
ReplyDeleteBut not for $450. That guy's high on something dangerous.
Yeah, it's way too much. But if I was a wealthier man, I would be all over that thing just for nostalgia.
ReplyDeleteOY GIVALT!
ReplyDeleteJust posted mine to eBay.
ReplyDeleteAwesome tool, but I need some cash.
Geeky nostalgia. I had one of these when I was around 11 or 12 and I was thinking about it earlier. I had asked for it and, my mother bought it for me. I think it may have been for my 11th birthday, though technically we didn't "celebrate" birthdays. I loved it, even though it was somewhat limited in what it could do. It was also kind of cheesy, not just in how it sounded, but in the way it was made. I think it may have cost $16 at the time. After I got tired of using it in the normal manner, I would tune a radio to a blank area on the AM dial, sit the toy on the radio, and listen to the sound of it interfering with the radio. I discovered something weird in doing this. If you talked into the speaker of the device, the speaker would act like a microphone. You could hear your voice modulated with the sound of the machine THROUGH THE RADIO! Exciting! After I got bored with this, I inadvertently I broke the toy while experimenting with it again. I was so upset...
ReplyDeleteI also had one. They're saught after by people who used to have them as kids(and now adults) and circuit benders. They are super limited in the palette of tones. 90% of the sounds sound like a cheap car alarm in the 90's or cop car. The back is actually a cardboard backing. I also put in a 1/4" jack in the back (the second unit) but melted the plastic a bit with the soldering iron. What a rookie move. As a kid I would tie the unit to my handle bars of my Redline BMX bike with a bungee cable, and run around the neighborhood trying to simulate a police car... I was bored and I was 12. It finally flew off my handle bars one day and it broke one of the fake plastic rack handles. As cheesy as it was, I miss it. I'll get another one sometime. They come up time to time in the weirdest places.
ReplyDeleteI also remember that it has a cardboard backing. The cardboard came off mine early on.
ReplyDeleteI have one that I bought for 50 cents at a garage sale 8 years ago. Ive been holding on to it ever since. Can someone tell me how to add a 1/4 inch jack to it? Im good with audio equipment but know very little about circuit bending and modification.
ReplyDeleteHELP!!!! Im dying to amp this baby up!!!
I need VERY simple instructions and any resources on this specific issue.
THANKS!!!
