Dynacord ADD One Drum sampler

YouTube via buchla300

"A small example of what the ADD-One can do. The buttons I am pressing are the manual trigger buttons, but it can be triggered by pads, gates or midi. Each sample (12 bit 50khz) can be filtered (same filters as the Sequential Circuits Studio 440 btw) and modulated in many ways and can be repeated and re-triggered in various ways (hence the rhythmic patterns that play just by hitting one trigger)
Quite possibly the best drum sampler ever."

  1. It's nice to see this machine in action again. I haven't been near one since the late 1980s, when I worked for Fast Forward Designs (later to become Line 6). The Add-One was designed by the guys at FFD in collaboration with Dynacord and was really a neat piece of engineering. When sounds are played at lower sample rates, it actually interpolates between samples and produces intermediate voltages to smooth out the sound.
I worked on some hardware design and the firmware for the Add-Drive sampler/disk drive (the 1U box on top in the video).
    Thanks for the memory blast!

  2. WEIRD! what all is being tweaked here? This box is crazy! some of the sounds remind me of my old Eventide H949 with it's crunchy pitchy echoes.

    Were there many of these?

  3. Great info H20gate!

They are quite tricky to find, but not impossible.
I think I'll make an expanded video tomorrow.
Ortho, it's 8 samples and each can be triggered and repeated with lots of modulation features controlling pitch, pan, filter and resonance etc.

  4. I'm selling mine right now:
    - ADD-One with the max. memory extension installed (1 MB, I think)
    - ADD-Drive
    - Remote program change pad (up/down via drum stick)
    - Original manuals for ADD-one and drive German/English
    - Lots of floppies with additional programs... many don't read, though
    - 6 Dynacord trapezoid pads
    - 2 dynacord pentagon pads
    - 2 Yamaha pads
(only 8 trigger inputs on the ADD-one, though)
I also have a Tama Drum Rack and lots of Gibraltar clamps for it, so the whole kit can be set up.

Many of the buttons on my ADD-One have bad contacts, so they should be cleaned/replaced. But otherwise, the thing is sure is fun to play with :)

I'm in LA... search for ADD-one on Craigslist... that's where I'll be posting until it's gone. Make me an offer if you're interested.
