ReplyDeleteI'll tell you the biggest difference between these two oscillators...you can actually get a 261e if you want one! good luck gettin your hands on a 259 ;)

ReplyDeleteI'm going to prepare a demo of the two side by side. What I meant is that f raw sines are similar, but that's not saying much; who can tell a pure VA sine from an analog one? The main osc of the 261e cannot make any sound tradionally analog like a saw or pulse but the modulation osc sounds damn good and I like the wave morphing. The 259 main osc goes from sine to pure saw easily and stays analog sounding all through. I still would rather have the 259 and 261e togther than two of either because of their differences.
ReplyDeleteThese comparisons are really interesting, thanks. I will probably never have an original 259, so it's comforting that the 259 and 261e are as close as they are.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the "current" line goes, in addition to the 261e, I've recently become enamored with the 259e (I realize that the 259e isn't made any more, but compared to the original 259, they are plentiful)
I originally dismissed the 259e because of the aliasing issue, but it can do a lot of interesting stuff with little or no aliasing, and it is really pretty unique in its own right. The artifacts can be fun, too. It adds a different flavor, for sure.
