Kurzweil VA-1 Finally Arrives... in the PC3X

Anyone remember the Kurzweil VA-1? Well, it looks like it is finally here, but instead of the knob laden stand alone synth, it is an upgrade for the Kurzweil PC3X.

"In another huge development, we've resurrected the ** VA-1 Virtual Analog Synthesizer, having built it's synthesis engine right into the new system. Hear the VA-1's power-shaped, anti-aliasing oscillators combined with a newer, larger set of V.A.S.T. filters and non-linear processors and you'll understand why the internet is buzzing about this feature."

"** VA1 Inside: anti-aliasing, power-shaped oscillators and DSP processing from Kurzweil's VA1 prototype synth, capable of delivering authentic analog emulations as well as incredibly complex new sounds. (** VA-1 Synthesis Engine - included FREE for a limited time! A $599.00 value - offer ends 12/31/07.)"

Thanks goes to aves for sending this one in.

  1. This is cool (as is what CME is doing with their add in synthesis cards,) it is great to be able to expand your controller keyboard into a true synth, but it just isn't the same as having the real thing. It sort of sucks the they come up with what looked to be a great prototype VA, but then decide to only give us the board out of it. Hopefully they'll release the real thing at a later date.

  2. The price is going to be a show stopper for many people - it lists for about $3K. I suspect the reason they included the VA-1 was to calm down the folks who responded to the price tag by shouting "What? And it doesn't even make a sound?" I expect the action to be really nice for that price. :)

  3. I hear if you push down all the buttons simultaneously you can activate a secret easter egg patch titled 'Singularity'.

  4. I've been watching the Kurzweil site for info on the PC3X release. The 88 key keyboard is susposed to be something special. If you check the specs, there is quite a bit of sound generation hardware standard.

I'm wondering if you can really buy one, before the VA-1 special offer expires. I really want to test drive the keyboard, before laying down $3000.+.
