  1. LOL. Why not do a quick search on ye olde interconnected network o' computers before asking a dumb question?

  2. BTW, title says Oct 1998 while the chip is Oct 1988.

  4. I think that's just a standard 7400 series logic chip as found in pretty much any digital electronic equipment from the seventies and onwards.

    Nothing special.

  6. Yep, it's just a 7474, but what I find interesting is that it's a Sovtek-branded IC. The first time I'd ever heard of these was when I came across them in a lot of parts I was given.

I've been digging for a few days and I can't find any info about Sovtek making ICs. That's what I'm looking for info on, not what a 7474 is...

  7. Matrix, just search for the part number "7474". Don't add the Sovtek name into the search. The question asked was "Anyone know what this is?", not "Hey, we know this is a 7474 dual flip flop, but I didn't know Sovtek made them and I'm looking for more info about this, does anyone have any?

  8. I'll just repost the exact message I sent to matrix here:

"Hey there... This is Steve, the guy who had the P3 and x0xb0x and such that you had poted here. I've got something which may interest you, and I'm hoping either you know something about it, or can make a post asking if anyone knows about it. I came across some Sovtek branded ICs, dated 1988 from the USSR. (Photo here: http://nuxx.net/gallery/v/acquired_stuff/itt_toolcase/IMG_9859.jpg.html)

The problem is, I can't find any information about Sovtek having ever made ICs. There's a bunch of info out there regarding their tubes in various amps, but that's all I can see.

Have you ever heard of these?

    Thanks very much!"

I think I'll try and post this a few other places, too...

  9. Well your original question was somewhat more detailed! Anyway, I was just being sarcastic, not intending to really zing ya.

  10. If it was genuine USSR stuff, pre 1989, why would they print the text in english?!

  11. quad: Maybe it was for-export-only stuff? English would be a good universal language for the European, Asian, and North American electronics markets... After all, most chips these days are still labeled in English.

It could also have been contract manufactured for a US customer.

  13. yes, we (russians) used to made own ICs. our industry was strong and these ones were really good quality (now we continue producing ICs, but they are too specific and not so stable), but enough of them were world ICs counterparts. soviet standards' tradition was to provide our own, cyrillic-based labeling, and it is pretty suspicious labeling on subj, BUT: 1988 was a Gorbachev and his 'perestroika' period, and there already were producers' co-operatives (small privately owned enterprises), which quantity was large, reputation and livin' time was low. thus, this IC could be manufactured such way.

what about SOVTEK. there are two SOVTEKs in my view:
first is building company, and works till nowadays.
the second is actually electronics component manufacturer, BUT: it was founded in 1994 and it produces electronic tubes, it was never producing ICs.
