Waldorf Blofeld

  1. Was the volume knob in its max setting?
Different sound volume due to not optimised volume of the factory sounds. Not a big deal. And the Blofeld is not meant to be used as preset instrument anyway.

  4. Waldorf, being my favourite synth company, makes bugy instruments. That´s part of their tradition. Don´t expect them to fix the bugs, they´re probably working an the Stromberg now...

  5. Anything with a big LCD screen is probably gonna behave like this- its all software bugs.

I was very excited when I bought my Elektron Monomachine- but due to all kinds of software issues just like those shown, I returned it- and I'm sticking with analog synths for sound generation and computers for composing, sequencing, control, and sampling from now on.

Stay away from anything that should be a computer instead of an instrument. You wont find problems like this with Nord and Access boxes...

Ermmm...what does having an LCD have to do with software bugs? How can you say without a doubt that this is not some hardware fault? The volume moving up and down, for instance, looks like the fault of a bad encoder.

Trust me, I sometimes spend upwards of 16 hours a day (when there is a big milestone to hit) working with custom embedded CPU's, PPU's, and SPU's. The problems exhibited in this video could very well be a hardware glitch.

Except for the huge array of problems that initially plagued the Virus TI series as well as the weird MIDI->PC interface which caused headaches for a lot of Nord Modular users. Yup, let's just ignore those.

With all that in mind, I'm pretty surprised by this video. The beta testers on the Waldorf list said that the Blofeld was relatively bug free. Perhaps there was some manufacturing problems affecting this particular unit? Maybe more are at fault? I was hoping that Waldorf would have been able to make a comeback while avoiding its reputation for buggy releases :(

As far as you sticking with analog synths for sound generation...do you mean 100% analog chips with no digital control what so ever? Otherwise, you will always be dealing with software. Good luck with your 100% voltage controlled studio ;)
