PNW 2007

"The next Pacific Northwest Synthesizer Meeting:
(Is this the fourth year or the fifth year?)

September 29, 2007
10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Renton Technical College
Building C, Room 111
3000 NE 4th St
Renton, WA 98056

A new economical modular synthesizer may be announced and demonstrated.

The now happily married Jim Patchell may come up again from SB. (We gotta do some serious string pulling.)

Too bad we can't talk Cynthia into visiting the Pacific Northwet with modules.

Bulgarian Pizza will be served at Noon as usual. (Please contribute $$)

James hair will be the color of Carbon111 this year.

I will post additional information on my website soon. The old information gets you on the right track.

Please RSVP with requirements.

Take care,
John

"A groove from one of the tracks from my forthcoming album, I just felt the need for a quick jam :)

My FR-777 is one of a few purple face units which have a different sound than the more common black ones, the distortion circuit is less tame, also this one has some of the mods from the Future Retro website, it was once owned by Charlie Clouser.

Don't forget to subscribe and check out my other videos."

Kepler's Orrery -- PhaseX: 2 Mutations

YouTube via simrangleason.
"Same world as PhaseX, but with mutation: every time a body hits the center square, its mass changes. Maybe larger, maybe smaller. If it gets small enough it becomes a point, and leaves a trail. Since mutation adds randomness, it comes out different every time. Here are two takes."

Be sure to check out the other videos by mousing over the bottom of the player when the video is over. Title link takes you to more info including and online Java version you can play yourself.

"Pallard International SYNDRUM CM analog drum synthesizer, its analog and in a clear case."

Kawai K5000s

via this auction

I just really like this shot for some reason. NOte the other K5000s in the background.

KORG Polysix

Title link takes you to shots via this auction.

Note this one suffered from the infamous batter leak. If you have a Polysix and have not checked out the battery, do so. You can read more about the fix here.

Marsona

Another Marsona sleeping aid device. Click here for a couple more shots via this auction.

Not the best shots, so check out this post for a better one and some more info. Note the description on this one below states wave oscillators in addition to white noise makers. Anyone know what the "wave oscillator" is in reference to and how it sounds? Seagulls to go along with the ocean?

"Pair of vintage mid 70's Marsona brand Wave Oscillators/White Noise makers. One is a Marsona 1200 and the other is a Marsona 1220 both have been equipped with 1/4" Output jacks so you can plug these into pedals and amplifiers very cool synth sweeps and white noise wave machines."

EML Synkey

via this auction

"Vintage Electronic Music Lab (eml) SynKey 2001 synthesizer. The eml synkey is a 44 note (f-c) 3 1/2 octave, programmable analog synthesizer has a total of 13 oscillators!"

MIDI Timing Redux

Title link takes you to an interesting article on MIDI timing including some tips, via Stretta.

"Every month or so a debate erupts on the analog heaven (and perhaps elsewhere) regarding personal computers and MIDI timing accuracy. The cycle is always the same: someone experiences some real or imagined timing inaccuracy using DAW software and concludes that all personal computers do not have acceptable MIDI timing.

Instead of propagating memes which may or may not be true, I suggest people test the timing accuracy of their system themselves. Like anything else with audio, it is all about signal flow."

BTW, while you are there, be sure to check out his Dissociative Fugue video. Really great stuff.

fotosis

Remember this post? Title link takes you to the fotosis blog where you can find more info on their creations. They have a new device featured in the video below. Note that it is up for auction as well.

Optically Controlled Synth / Ring Mod / Noise Maker

"Part One: This is actually three devices in one, its an optically controlled synth (Optical Theremin) a passive ring modulator and a square wave noise generator. Each individual piece can be used by itself or combined with the other sections to create a myriad of weird and wonderful noise. The ring mod. can be used to modify the sound of other devices (Laptop, guitar etc.) and you can use the on board oscillators as the carrier signal.
