The Roland S-50 on wire to the ear
"The Roland S-50 was a futuristic looking black metal monolith with a fluorescent screen. It felt long and had 61 keys. Compare that with the measly cheap feeling two octave Oxygen 8 I use now! You could hook it up to an external monitor. I had mine hooked up to a 13″ green CRT poised on a three tier Ultimate Keyboard Rack. It also came with a digitizing tablet and pen similar to a Wacom tablet. This allowed you to draw waveforms but it was more gimmick than useful.
It was 4 part multitimbral and 16 voice polyphonic. It had a 3.5″ disc drive and 750k internal memory. You could sample at 12-bit at 15-30kHz." Click here for the full post on the Roland S-50 on wire to the ear.

Vocoder What Is It? EMS 2000 Demo w/ Oberheim OB-8
YouTube via intromix. via Nusonica.
"Here is how an analog vocoder works. I am not going to use technical "jibberish" so I will speak normal vocabulary. This is the legendary EMS Vocoder 2000 (from 1977) which soundwise compares against Sennheiser, Moog(Bode), Synton, Roland, Korg. I will give a basic demonstration on how to use a vocoder and how a vocoder functions to give it that "robotic" sound. I used an Oberheim OB-8 Keyboard to trigger the pitch on the vocoder"

Smooth Electech - MC-909 LIVE (Part 6)
YouTube via siedgey.
"Hi everyone,
Thanks a lot for continuing to watch and enjoy my videos on Youtube, brings a tear to my (incredibly manly) eye.
I don't really know what genre this track is - if anyone has any ideas then comment! It was made in 1 night, recorded the next night. Smooth, rolling, melodic, highly compressed, slightly French...I could go on...
For some reason, the sound quality is far worse on the upload than the recorded video - apologies for that. Kinda makes it sound quite bass-heavy...ach well!
If you have any comments or questions, I'd love to hear them. Thanks again for watching...enjoy." Access Virus Classic.
minimoog bassline demo of Madonna - Get into the groove
YouTube via lewisjp8young.
"here's a demo clip of the bassline for the song (into the groove)it needs cleaning up with the correct notes etc. the sound is created by using very short decay times. the minimoog's 2 oscillator were very finely tuned by myself to get that grit sound that the minimoog growls out. if you know what i mean. these synths sound much better in real life."

Jori Hulkkonen, Jesper Dahlbeck, Perttu Häkkinen, Aku Raski, Petri Salonen, Tin Man, Kimmo Oksanen, J-P Parikka, Tatu Peltonen, Janne Puurunen ja Tuomas Toivonen.
Sorry about the very crap sound. I am accepting donations for a better camera. There was a lot of pro cameras and mics around the stage, so there will be other hifi sources available, don't worry...

Music & Recording - Digisound 80 Modular Synthesizer
"Somewhere in proffessor Elektrovolt's studio,in the vruchtenbuurt, the Hague we can find a huge, rare british modular synthesizer from the early 80s, the Digisound 80 modular. Invented and designed by Charles Blackley who would print the designs in the Electronics Today International and Electronics & Music Maker (E&MM) magazines. As obscure and extrentic as the EMS synthesizers the company from Blackpool faded away in the early 1990s."

MOOG Liberation Funds Syntar
images via this auction.
Here's an interesting auction. A MOOG Liberation being sold to fund a Syntar. Note the Syntar actually predated the MOOG Liberation as the first keytar ever, a interesting bit of synth history. The Syntar featured an amazingly expressive control interface on the neck that has yet to be reproduced and it did sound quite nice. You can read more about the Syntar on Carbon111's excellent Syntar Page as well as this interview here on MATRIXSYNTH.
It's worth noting that the person behind the Syntar was George Mattson who is currently the man behind the new Mattson Mini Modular.
As for this Liberation, here are the details from the auction:
"# This auction is only for a complete MOOG Liberation Analogue Synthesizer
# In good physical and playing condition with checking and dents in the wood
# Please click on the images below to see larger photos to inspect physical condition
# NEW chipforbrains slider caps
# NEW chipforbrains sliders installed by analogsynthservice.com
# Foam sheet over PCB has been removed and PCB has been cleaned!
# Rackmountable power/CV unit
# Control Cable has not nicks or cuts
# Hardshell carrying case
# Print outs of the owners and service manuals
# Shipping is $50 in the USA, $150 elsewhere
# Interested? All offers will be considered. The chipforbrains sliders are meant to be drop in replacements. However CY has stated that some Liberations will behave slightly differently in the Envelope Generators. If you're familiar with the Rogue or the Liberation, you will notice a difference in the behavior.
I am selling my Moog Liberation because I asked George Mattson to build me one of his unfinished SYNTARs that has sat idle nearly 30 years. As you can imagine it took quite a bit of money to convince him to dust off the SYNTAR and continue working on it. Subsequent interest in the SYNTAR has brought along his latest project: the Mattson Mini Modular .. I order two populated cabinets, so you can see, I need to LIBERATE myself of this Moog to pay Mr. Mattson."

MOOG Prodigy - Signed by Bob MOOG
images via this auction
Details (not me):
"I met Bob Moog in the winter of 1996 at the Zounds store in Chicago. He signed this synth for me. Bob was an amazing man. A humble man, A true scientist with a spiritual side that ran deep. There are those who would insist on a minimoog model D. But the prodigy is much more stable. This is my very first piece of gear. I learned about synthesis on this prodigy. This is truley my prized possesion. Flawless condition. Moog bass sounds that cannot be replicated anywhere."
