  1. does anyone know why this is so expensive? $5600US [so far]
i was under the impression you can still buy them new from EMS 1600Pounds [about $3000US]...
is it because of the sequencer? [which i believe he say isnt working]
or the fact that its an early production...
i would so much rather a new one which is guaranteed to work and is much cheaper...

  4. you forgot to check the date of the listing... 1998...

at that time the synthis (AKS) price was around 1200~1500 gbp...

so to be consistent the "new" price should be now 3000~4000 gbp...

  5. I've communicated with Robin at EMS about "new" Synthis. They will make some at some point, but they will be more than what is listed on the site, but they only have so many cases left so it is unlikely to be available to anyone who is not on the list. I have been on the list for about two years. AKS are pretty rare, about 5 for sale a year, Old Synthi As seem even rarer, the average price for an AKS now seems to be around $6500. I have see a nice modified one go for over 9k. In any case they are worth every penny IMO!

  6. If I recall, the last one that went on EBAY sold for $7300 [US $]. Robin will not be able to fill any new orders - there is a pretty big waiting list that's been building for YEARS.

The supply of cases has dried up, and I'm sure there are other parts that are long gone and would require substitution - not entirely a bad thing, but one of the quirks of these is that each one has very specific differences. Substituting with higher tolerance/modern parts would change the sound. I own two [yes, I am a very lucky bastard] and it's just about impossible to duplicate a sound on them both - very close, but there is nearly always some subtle difference.

At the going rate I anm condidering selling one to obtain a large modular system - 7 grand gets you a pretty elaborate system these days.

    Are they WORTH that much?
It's entirely in the eye/ear of the buyer. They are surely unique in both sound and function, but I have never found them to be very... musical. Some will disagree I'm sure, but since NEITHER of my sequencers are working [both keyboards work just fine however] it's a challenge to make them really work as anything other than 'special effects' sources. I hope to send at least one 'KS' to Robin at EMS for service. Thank goodness for his continued dedication to EMS gear.

    Just my unsolicited opinions,
    Jeff
