Note on Auction Posts

In the comments of this post, Mr. Array noted that a useful thing to have for auction posts would be the amount the item went for. I actually think it's a great idea, however personally I can barely keep up with the amount I currently post. I do have a solution though. If anyone happens to click on an auction that has ended, note the price it went for in the comments of the post. That simple and that easy. I'll do the same, but I can't go back and make a job of it myself. 20+ posts a day takes a LOT of time and the rest of my time goes to my day job, family and a little bit to myself for actually playing synths.

So... if its easy enough for you to do it, do it. If not, then obviously don't. Worst case, things remain the same. However, if we start getting the closing prices for auctions we will be able to use the site as a resource in looking up what things went for over time, just do a search for the synth and the word auction and all auction posts for the synth should come up. Check the comments and find the price as well as other people's comments.

BTW, does anyone know how long closed auctions stay up on Ebay? While they are up you can still search for what items went for on this site. I don't think Ebay let's you search on closed auctions.

Udpate via the comments: you can search old auctions under the advanced search in Ebay by checking "Completed listing only" however you do have to be logged on.

Also, this post applies to the auctions on Matrixsynth-b as well. If you feel like nothing the ending price in the comments, go for it.

Hammond B3 Miniature - Looking for More Info

Remember this miniature Hammond B3 from this post? If you have more info on it including where one might be able to pick one up/have one made, please post a comment or let me know. I have someone that is interested in picking one up. Before I get inundated with WTBs, please note I am only making the exception to this one due to it's uniqueness.

Roland Ace Tone Top-1

"Fabulous-looking and displaying synth/organ made by Ace-Tone, the predecessor of Roland. This is the Top-1 organ, which utilizes what sound like sawtooth waveforms to generate tone. It is polyphonic, but I have no idea if it's analog or digital. I'm guessing the latter, since analog polyphony didn't really exist in the '60s. [I'm guessing analog divide-down technology - if you know, feel free to comment]. All I know is this thing looked great set up next to my tiki mug collection, but the girlfriend has decreed that it is time to make room her our ever-increasing pile of makeup and tampons or whatever.

As you can see from the images, the legs unscrew and are stowed in the detachable lid, similar to the Yamaha CS-series synths. There are a trace amount of scuffs in the organ itself, but nothing too fugly. The case itself has about as much wear and tear that you'd expect after 40 years, and the underside of the synth has tape marks. Functionally it's perfect except for the first white B key inexplicably plays one octave too high. However, if you are high yourself, you probably won't notice.

I've seen a few of these organs listed over the last few months, but this is one of the few units that comes with a music stand and almost perfect operability. And as I said before, it looks great. I know that you are attracted, magpie-like to the shiny, shiny red brilliance of this vintage classic. Just bid on it and get it over with, so you can sleep tonight without obsessing."

MicroQ Patches for the Blofeld - Factory and User Patches for Waldorf Synths

PAiA 4700 Demo Cassette

"A PAiA 4700 modular demonstration tape from PAiA ripped for amusement for others to hear. Not the best, tape static, but this tape is from the 70's so I'm amazed I was able to retrieve the audio anyways. All my tapes 10 years plus are now...well, dead! Damn EMPs! :)"

"More on the end cheeks: once they're off, they're really oddly shaped, so even after multiple applications of methylene chloride, you still end up scraping and sanding to get all the paint off.

Once the sanding, staining, and poly finish is done, they then have to be glued back to the main control panel. I used Gorilla Glue."

LinnDrum II on Roger Linn Design

The LinnDrum II is now up on Roger Linn Design. via MG.

"In January 2007, Dave Smith and I (Roger Linn) pre-annouced BoomChik, a new drum machine product that we are creating together. Since that time, we received many enthusiastic comments and suggestions from musicians around the world that caused us to rethink and enhance the product's design. The bad news is that this design change (along with Dave's release of Prophet '08 and my release of AdrenaLinn III) has delayed our development. The good news is that the product has grown into a far more capable instrument. Also, we've decided to change the name to LinnDrum II, recalling an innovative drum machine from a bygone era. Please read on for more details.

There will be two models: the all-digital “LinnDrum II”, available from Roger Linn Design and the “LinnDrum II Analog”, which adds four voice analog synth voices and 27 dual-function voicing knobs, available from Dave Smith Instruments. We're currently estimating street prices of around $1000 for LinnDrum II and around $1500 for LinnDrum II Analog. Here's a brief summary of the product features:

Features common to both products:
* Operating system is optimized for realtime live performance, with the ability to switch between beats, drop in and out of record on different beats, switch in and out of song mode and much more, all without stopping play.
* Digital voices have nearly the same signal and modulation path--including modulated filters and resonators--as shown on the LinnDrum 2 Analog panel. Total number of voices is not yet determined.
* 16 standard 1.1 inch square velocity and pressure-sensitive drum pads, assignable to sounds, tunings, beats, track mutes, pad mutes or sequence steps.
* Both MPC-style real time and 808-style step recording are provided, and the 16 pads are backlit for visual animation.
* Real-time stereo digital effects on output mix--modulated multi-mode filtering, guitar amp model and bit/sample rate reduction distortion, modulated resonator, compressor, deley, reverb and EQ--with 6 dedicated on/off keys to switch them individually in or out in real time.
* Compact flash slot for data save/load/backup, or for expansion of internal sound storage.
* Internal RAM and flash size is yet to be decided; at least 16 mbytes for each.
* 128 x 64 dot graphic LCD.
* USB port for transferring samples and other files, MIDI messages and audio I/O to and from computer.
* 4 pushbutton soft knobs below the LCD, acting either as soft knobs or soft keys.
* 52 lit buttons for extensive real-time performance control.
* 2 sliders assignable to a large variety of real-time functions.
* HELP key gives descriptive text for any screen, data field, function key or knob.
* Pressing DETAILS key followed by any panel key presents a screen of settings related to the key pressed.
* 2 pairs of stereo outputs, with phones output fed from either pair.
* Stereo inputs for sampling, audio processing or triggering sounds.
* MIDI in and out.
* 2 inputs for either foot switches or expression pedals, assignable to a wide variety of functions.

Additional features on Dave's LinnDrum II Analog:
* Four complex analog voices based on the same Curtis-chip synth voices used in the highly-aclaimed Prophet '08 and Evolver keyboards.
* Four direct ouputs for the four analog voices.
* 27 dedicated dual-function rotary encoders for voicing the analog and digital voices.

There's still a lot of work to do so late 2008 is our best estimate of when the products will be ready.
