Korg Kaossilator as pad controller for the MS-20

YouTube via Newueel
"Don't like playing keyboards? Or just looking for another approach of using the MS-20? This vid is about using a Korg Kaossilator as controller for the Korg MS-20 which allows you to play the MS-20 by a pad!

The Kaossilator is not used for the sounds itself. It is actually used instead of the MS-20 keyboard (using the ESP). So all sounds are coming from the MS-20!

The Kaossilator features give you other great possibilities and ways of playing the MS-20, which you wouldn't be able to using only the keyboard. You can change the key and BPM, choose out of 31 scale patterns, choose out of 50 appregiator gate patterns and of also very usefull: recording and looping a played sequence. In the mean while just tweak the MS-20 for the most crazy sounds..."

Musikinstrumente des 21. Jahrhundert - Tracks vom 20.06.2008

YouTube via iNspIreNewMedia. Bjork and Reactable
"Virtuose Spieltechnik und klassische Harmonielehre sind scheinbar Vergangenheit. Mit ReacTable, Monome, Tenori-On, Karl der Klarinette oder Lemur wird die Musik zum Zufallsprodukt und zum Kinderspiel. Ähnlich wie MIA oder Kraftwerk spielen auch Daft Punk seit kurzem am liebsten mit Touchscreens.

Party Chambers

Party Chambers
Music with the Roland PMA-5. via jimmersound in the comments of this PMA-5 auction post on MATRIXSYNTH-B. This is one of the reasons why I like putting these posts up. You never know what gems you might find.

Update: "all of the sounds on the tracks posted on the Party Chambers MySpace page were recorded straight out of the PMA-5's 1/8" jack. (Even the 'guitar' sounds in the track "Sky Bar"!)

As far as drum sounds go, it has 808 & 909 sounds in it as well as some super cheesy 80's sounding 'power' drums (Which is odd, since the PMA is from '95 or '96 I think)."

Old Synthesizers Giant and odd (Downtown LA)

"We are in the process of clearing out the home of a deceased relative.

Waldorf Wall Clock

via this auction

Update via Till "Qwave" Kopper in the comments: "the only legal Waldorf time is found here: link

The clock is not an official Waldorf product. I think it is made by someone uploading the logo to an online shop like spreadshirt (or the plenty others doing single item prints on cloths, mugs and even clocks)

keep on turning these knobs

Yamaha GS1/GS2 the First FM Synth Service Manual

via this auction

"Conmplete manual; with Two large Fold-Out Schematics. Vintage Yamaha, their first FM synthesizers. Very rare to see this manual. The manual is for both the GS1 (the "4-Op") and the GS2 (2-op) versions. Each has their own large fold old schematic in the back."

via Loscha who brought us these scans.

Pictures of dead CEM chips

"It has long been known that the CEM chips used in so many synthesizers were semi-custom IC. Doug Curtis, just out of college, had won a design contest sponsored by Interdesign (later sold to Ferranti/GEC Plessey) and went on to work for Interdesign before founding Curtis Electromusic Specialties, later to fold into OnChip Systems. The founder of Interdesign and designer of the '555 timer chip, Hans Camenzind, still operates consultancy business in mask programmable analog semicustom IC, Array Design and has written the book Designing Analog Chips that is available free for download or as a print-on-demand hardcopy.

Here are the first two pictures of de-encapsulated (defect) CEM chips, more to follow as time permits."

Roland D-50 & Alesis Andromeda

YouTube via Hossinfeffa
"Little experiment done in a style similar to RetroSound. I made a choir patch on the D-50, and MIDI'd the D-50 to the Andromeda's analog pad sound. These two combined shocked me as it was a heavenly combination that seems like something from a JD-800."

Quad LFO and Wave Multiplier Demo

YouTube via boobtube356
"Doepfer quad LFO modulating an A-137 wave multiplier to demonstrate what can be done with these two modules alone. One of the LFOs is providing audio to the A-137. The other modules involved are not altering the sound."
