Saturday Night Villain - Red Flags

via Scott Metzger:
[Read the long version and check out the track here:
http://www.saturdaynightvillain.com]
"The short version of the story: I went on a second date with this girl I was really starting to like. Little did I know that she would end up running off with another guy that night! I painfully watched in shock and disbelief as they left this Hollywood club together, hand in hand. In the following days, both parties proceeded to bombard me with apologies via myspace and text messages. Armed with all this great content, I converted their pleas to synthesized speech, and the song Red Flags was born. What you hear is what they said (with actual testimony from club witnesses and some phallic references thrown in for good measure).

"This time tried to do some camera close-ups and moves but it is difficult doing it all alone. The video shows another sequencer improvisation.
The Synthesizers.com sequence starts dry and then I switch on the AKAI Head Rush E2 in tape echo mode (blue device on the top right of the DotCom). You can hear how the sequence becomes alive. When I switch the connect switch on the Q124, the CV of row 1 of the MAQ16/3 is connected to the 1V/Oct of the Q107. Row 1 drives the DotCom and the MFM. Row 2 drives the Nord Lead 1 which 2nd VCO is detuned 5 semitones down to simulate chords. Row 3 adds 2 semitones to row 1 each 8 steps. The solo is done on the Kawai 100F."

The Book of sound By Ben Houston .

This extra custom piece is part of a folktek series entitled "philanthropoid"". Also in the series on the site is the Mantis, dronescape sequencer, the moth, the growling insect, the bug, the octa-hedra, walking stick, pendulum translator and others. The sound is phenomenol and continues to amaze us. It is a sonic symphony of nasty and grimy sweetness, endless layers of sound possibilities emenating from High quality OSC originally based on high tech speech synthesis. Seemingly random bits can be rediscovered time and time again and then there are those moments that you will most likely never rediscover. This piece WILL provide sounds that you will not find in other synthesizers and will astonish you every time you turn it on.

This particular piece features four patchable knobs, two with common center points and a twelve point patchbay. This allows you to determine function and provides tons of flexibility. In addition, featured is a light sensitive photo theramin control for global synth sound as well as: two more knobs (global control and power kill), glowing lamp power indicator , 2 folktek button/switches for activate and freeze mode sections, light sensitive photo-contol, reset, 1/4" output, built in battery pack, basic manual of function and layout. You'll be able to cipher through waveforms and textures with extreme sensitivity in thousands of ways. Waveforms (individual, or multiple layers) can be captured and maintained, often intermodulating in beautiful and/or disturbing ways. Super sensitive knobs let you filter through tons of sounds and glitchscapes. Albums are waiting to be created here as the sound is quite different from anything else you'll find.. Runs on 4 "AA" batteries Includes manuel"

Korg MS-02 Interface

via this auction
"Korg (and Yamaha CS) synths use Hz/Octave for their CV and Gate whereas most other manufactures use Volt/Octave. This interface is designed to convert one to the other and vice versa. It can also convert gate signals. Use your Pro-One to control an MS-10 or 20. Use the MS-20 to control your Roland. It basically allows you to control any CV synth with any CV synth. This also has many multiples for duplicating signals... Here is a webpage that explains more.

Future Retro Revolution SE #2

images via this auction
"Only 10 of these were made and this is #2. Also signed by the maker. The SE is painted a special gun gray and has black painted aluminum sides and special color coded knobs... The SE also has an added feature that there is also an accent output with the gate output... Built in analog overdrive and digital fx. The remix function is one of the best features on an analog sequencer. You can also use the revolution as a midi to cv/gate converter and a midi to din sync converter"

Buchla LIGHTNING III

"LIGHTNING III is about to strike!

Not a whole lot different than Lightning II, Lightning III features improvements in sensitivity, resolution, accuracy, and response time. Perhaps the biggest difference is in the addition of a third axis of sensitivity. Yes, Lightning now responds in all three directions, adding proximity to the horizontal and vertical dimensions brought to you by Lightning II.

As for appearance, not much change. The triangular remote sensor morphed to a rectangular shape; the control box stayed just about the same, and the wands are virtually identical.

Changes in software are minimal, the primary changes are to accommodate the third axis. The price is unchanged, remaining at $1995. Watch this space for a complete description and some pics."

New Serge M-odule: Wave Processor

Wave Processor
Ring Modulator, Triple Waveshaper

$2,000

[DAD] balanced out 'XLR' or 1/4" TRS option: $300

Sound Transform Systems
(262) 367-3030

First impressions via Hans Grusel on the Serge Modular Users Group Yahoo List

Talk about meat; There's a firkin 20-ton rib roast inside this thing!

Triple Waveshaper- 1st serge module I ever touched some 15 years ago. Super
early version not in a panel but just in a box, so I was a bit nostalgic about this
one-- M-odule delivers the goods 110%. Everything from overdrive in single, to full on shred
in series. As one would expect, it always hold ups with super sonic detail in all registers no
matter what you throw at it. Dance the cv ins in series w/ the gator's /n comp into pulse
divider for a grand rollick.

Wave Multipliers:
A stellar 3-plier set. What can I say: a classic's classic.
Top section: overdrive/vca.
Mid section: overtones out the ass plus DC coupling in.
Bottom section: even more over the top shreds. Take some low harm
content into both audio inputs then feed the cv out back into your osc source
you'll have rock neck for days. Then take a crack at it with cv instead of audio.
Versatility to the nines.

Ring mod:
Rex had mentioned he was workin on the bottom end of this one. Looking at chest
implosion with a supersub. can't wait to wail this one live thru a good full on
PA. Again the range and detail of this sucker would be hard to beat.

Mixer:
3 in 1 (banana) out.
#3 in with +/- or null. Again top of the top in quality.

X-fade:
The M-odule mainstay. Two in. 1/4 inch + banana out w/ vc xfade + vc gain.
A gem of a gateway from serge to speakers.

flight of harmony newsletter August 2008

"I’m quite busy filling the current orders, but here’s a quick update:

· After this run, the current Plague Bearer form factor will be discontinued – these housings are just too labor-intensive. There are only two v1.1 Plague Bearers remaining at the time of this writing and they are the last of this style.

· If there is enough demand, populated main boards for the Plague Bearer, Imp, and the Infernal Noise Machine will be made available. Main boards do not include PSU or I/O jacks. Email me if you are interested, I’ll have some populated board pics up soon.

Upcoming:
· Modular versions of the Plague Bearer, Parasite, and the Infernal Noise Machine.
· The standalone version of the I.N.M and the Imp will be available in a couple weeks"

KORG PS-3300

images via this auction

This one went for $21,000

Interesting details from the auction:
"I have been the sole owner of this Korg PS 3300. 100% Original. !00% Functional. 100% Complete. Ser.# 780302. I ordered this PS 3300 brand new from a local Korg Dealer, Music Sound World in Tulsa, OK, immediately after returning from demoing a PS 3300 Floor Model at Arnold&Morgan Music in Dallas,TX. Included is a custom built performance table. Included is the original owner’s manual. Also included are the set of original patch cables. The factory edge connectors for all of the internal circuit boards on the main bus have been replaced with upgrades that will not crack as the original connectors did. All circuits and pots are working. A few pots and switches need to be cleaned due to the little use it has received recently. The longer it is powered on and played the less this is an issue. Dependable, reliable and very well taken care of over all of the years I have owned it. The only cosmetic blemishes are two slight chips in the veneer (one each on both sides of the wood case). For the exception of these two chips the rest of the cabinet is clean and in great shape. All knobs and switches are original and complete with no cracks or damage. No blemishes on any of the front panels. All of the Keyboard controller trigger switches and joystick are complete and funtional. All keys are undamaged , original and playable. No Midi.

If you are not familiar with this incredible instrument here is a link to WikiPedia to assist those of you who are interested and would like to learn more about this unbelievably powerful and unique modular fully analog polyphonic synthesizer.

"Company "Amidio" has announced "Noise.io", the first official iPhone/iPod Touch sound synthesizer. It offers ESFM (Enhanced Subspace Frequency Modulation) synthesis that is capable of producing all kinds of noises and sound effects. Making iPhone sound is simple: user slides his fingers over the device surface, that produces sound that changes in realtime, delivering a unique sonic experience. The resulting sound can be synced to BPM via TapBPM function and can be even more enriched with sound effects like chorus, delay, flanger, etc. Noise.io comes with 81 presets and a user-friendly preset editor that allows creating user presets in no time. Noise.io will be available exclusively in AppStore on 08/25/2008, for $6.99.

The company has another 2 projects in the same field: Didjer.io (iPhone dijeridoo emulator) and Flute.io (iPhone flute emulator). There projects are in early alpha stage. Also the VST version of Noise.io will be released by the end of 2008."

DIY Serge-style Rack Panel

via creatorlars on electro-music.com
"finally finished my Serge-style rack panel about a week ago and got around to taking pictures. Also featured is the DIY portable rack case (3/4" pine and plywood + hardware/carpet from ReliableHardware.com.) It has a hinged latch-on lid too (with enough room to keep things patched in!)

Below this panel is my new Midibox CV, which I am really enjoying, and my Midibox SEQ3. This whole rig together is currently my "bassline machine" for composing and live shows -- but hopefully it will grow beyond that, to allow a setup for more symbiotic lead lines/basslines/percussion."

Looks like an EDP. You can find an additional image and more info on electro-musi.com.
