Chasing Cars played entirely on synths... with kittens.

YouTube via steveeor
"An instrumental version of Snow Patrol's song Chasing Cars, as featured on Grey's Anatomy, played entirely on synthesizer. I wanted to upload it to show it to someone, but needed to make it into a video. So I stuck a load of kitten pictures in there too. Enjoy." "It's all made using a Korg Micro, with a Radius keyboard and a Kaoss Pad."

When he finally gets a sound out of it, it sounds like it's laughing at him. :)

Rhythmic Variation w/ Analogue Systems rs340 Gate Delay

YouTube via bigcitymusic. http://bigcitymusic.com
"Recently someone asked about the rs340 Gate Delay. They wondered what some practical uses for it would be. How about some rhythmic variation? It sounds like an egg timer but with two of the rs340's you can swing your sequencer, create triplets, dotted 16ths, make short or longer delays for attack times on most patches. Mult your gate source, run both into a CV mixer(like the ASys rs160), run one trigger out of an rs340 into another's gate in, run that to the CV mixer too. Voila. Lots of crazy gates to send to whatever you want."

A-100 and FX

YouTube via grauoliv
"Just something that started by wanting to sound like the NON-works of Boyd Rice. The Doepfer A-100 sends noise with a slow volume envelope into the moogerfooger ringmodulator, then to the mam afb-8 filterbank and then into the alesis bitrman. One Doepfer LFO also sends some CV to the moogerfooger, which brings in the moving of the sound. The Alesis does the distortion. I think of a proper recording with a proper kind of video. Let me know what you think!"

The Bear Is Back

YouTube via areyoudreaming. "what's behind the bear?"
I have no idea what this has to do with Oberheim but it has it as a label. Maybe the background synth? Note the end of the video actually states "... is bach" not back. Reference to the switched on bach records of the past?

CR-78 remote repair

YouTube via MusicMiK
"Today, Steen and i will show you a quite interesting small project. Steen has a broken Roland CR-78 and sits in Denmark, i have the knowledge to repair it and sit in Germany. He could send the unit to me to have me repair it, but we tried a different thing, as Steen thought that he could do the job if i guide him through the steps.
So i told him what material he needs to replace the potentially failed latches for the instrument triggers, he got the material, i told him a bit how to solder and desolder, created the desoldering video recently, and after those preparations, we started all this.
So enjoy this video and see, how everything worked out. From those 8 hours of work, i just have 25 minutes of video material which i had to cut down to 10 minutes for YouTube. So lots of fun is missing there, but we hope, you enjoy it anyway."

Paul's Farfisa keyboards and Vox organ project machines

YouTube via sounddoctorin
"We took a video of the Farfisa stuff that Paul Haugen and I loaded into storage from Tucson. The store down there had accumulated quite a bit of stuff over the years. Many of these machines have great parts and some will be restored probably. Let us know if you are interested and check http://sounddoctorin.com as always for information on repairing synthesizers and a host of great links."

Paul's Vox organ project machines

"And here we are on the same windy day laying out all the Vox organs that came from our Tucson trip. Some of these will be restored we hope by yours truly. Some are obviously not going to be more than parts machines but quite a layout of rare stuff in one place. http://sounddoctorin.com as always for a lot of help on repairing synthesizers in the global synth page but also a tour of my own studio and some songs of mine, as well as some items I have fixed up for new owners. Enjoy."

How to Stop the KORG DS-10 Song Sequence

YouTube via jetdaisuke
"http://webdog.be/archives/081011_1459...
Tips: Nintendo DS Synthesizer KORG DS-10.
In song mode, default specification is playing a loop sequence. If you want to stop the sequence, you must push a button.

But you can stop it automatically. Set the 1st measure empty and start playing from the 2nd measure.

The sequence keep on looping at the end point. But there is no sound at the 1st measure. So it looks stopped."

# New function knobs use genuine/original Roland parts (harvested from other machines)
# Gate in, CV in, Filter CV in, Accent in, and Slide in, along the back edge for ease of MIDI control (with appropriate unit, eg. kenton)
# Fifth unit produced (serial number continuity error)
# This machine has some minor cosmetic imperfections (scuffs) on the metal switch board insert.
# First unit to have VCF output pre-amp modification.

(note: there will be some overlap between this auction and a complimentary 606 auction - check the "view seller's other items" link to see what's still available)"

BLIP FESTIVAL 2008

Blip Festival 2008: The Promo from Richard Alexander Caraballo on Vimeo. Blip Fesitival Website
"Archaic game and home computer hardware is recast into the unlikely role of musical instrument and motion graphics workstation in the BLIP FESTIVAL 2008, a four-day event showcasing nearly 40 musicians and visual artists occupying the international low-res cutting edge. The Blip Festival takes place DECEMBER 4—7, 2008 at the Bell House, and is presented by Manhattan art organization THE TANK and NYC artist collective 8BITPEOPLES.

Highlighting the chipmusic phenomenon and its related disciplines, the festival aims to showcase emerging creative niches involving the use of legacy video game & home computer hardware as modern artistic instrumentation. Devices such as the Nintendo Entertainment System, Commodore 64, Atari ST, Nintendo Game Boy and others are repurposed into the service of original, low-res, high-impact electronic music and visuals — sidestepping game culture and instead exploring the technology's untapped potential and distinctive intrinsic character.

The Blip Festival assembles nearly 40 practitioners selected from the chipmusic movement's expansive global underground, taking care to represent as many as possible of the genre's surprisingly diverse styles, geographical and technical scenes, communities, and traditions. The festival's concert program will be supplemented by daytime events to be announced, including workshops, presentations, and screenings. The Blip Festival's intended result is to provide a cross-section of a movement currently in explosive flux, teeming with artistic exploration, and poised at the cusp of global awareness.

Featured artists in previous editions of the Blip Festival have included Bodenständig 2000 [Rephlex], YMCK [Avex Trax], Herbert Weixelbaum [Morr Music], Jeroen Tel, Neil Voss, new media artist Cory Arcangel, and dozens of others." Blip Festival

The Sound Source: 'Cartoons and Weirdness' – A Tribute to Raymond Scott

"Date: Tuesday 14 October
Price: From £11.50

Curated by Society for the Promotion of New Music www.spnm.org.uk

The Sound Source is now based at Kings Place. It promises to be London’s premier experimental music series.

The first night celebrates the work and influence of Raymond Scott, a lost genius of the 20th Century. Bandleader, inventor and experimentalist – Scott’s career was diverse to say the least. He’s best known for inspiring the soundtracks for cartoons such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and The Simpsons, but in his time Scott also developed the first musical sequencer and even spent time as the head of electronic research and development at Motown Records. This spirit of adventure permeates the night, from the Stu Brown Sextet’s reinterpretation of Scott’s early work to Falco Subbuteo’s experimental electronica (featuring spnm shortlisted composer, Valerie Pearson). The Sound Source regulars no.w.here bring complementary films and The Open Source, curated by Music Orbit provides a unique platform for the best emerging composers and artists." more info
