MiMa feat. Van Halen - Jump! - 2nd version

YouTube via mima14031985

"Hi folks! Here's my second version of Van Halen - Jump, this time featuring the Roland JP-8000, all another story from my previous attempt with the Korg N5. I've also played the 1984 opening song as Jump's intro. My version of 1984 is transposed a semitone up respect to the original, in order to come in with Jump in a perfect fifth (1984 ends in G major, jump starts in C major).
The patch used is the same for both songs, and is the usual used and abused double detuned sawtooth sound, which differs in the 2 songs by it's envelope settings (very slow volume attack and release with filter steady opened for 1984, fast volume attack and release and very slow filter decay for Jump). The bass for 1984 it's also a double detuned sawtooth sound, but this time the 2nd oscillator is 1 octave higher than the 1st. Here we have constant volume but filter envelope with slow attack and release and stronger resonance, in order to obtain that whistleing effect.
As usual comments, while not being offensive, are really appreciated! Enjoy and thanks"

Isidore preparing Absinthe

YouTube via DamagedMeat
"I love Absinth, and I love modular synthesizers, so I thought it would be a good idea to do something featuring those two wonders... And as it actually looked quite good and kinda hypnotic, I taped and uploaded it. This shows the absinth ritual using a see saw brouilleur and Verte de Fougerolles Absinth (I love that brand). The sound of the see saw brouiller is captured by a microphone and used to trigger stuff in the modular synth (Doepfer A100, with the one and only Isidore robot cabinet)... so that every drops (approximately) changes synth parameters such as pan, fm, filters and delay clock. I also added some melody from my micromoog and some rvb (on the moog only).

I had to make several takes and edited the thing while I was totally drunk.
I hope you enjoy it, if you do, don't forget to rate, comment, subscribe and all that stuff."

The METZ Synthesizer

The maker of the METZ synth, Mike Metz, wrote in with more info on his unique creation. You can find more images and what he had to say in the original post. Scroll down to the Update that begins with the image pictured here.

Side note: Mike Metz now runs Thesis Audio Service. It looks like we have a new (old) synth tech in town.

"Since 1976, THESIS AUDIO SERVICE has provided the midwest with quality, afforable repairs, maintenance, and restoration services on all types of equipment for musicians, sound companies and dealers."

NEW POLIVOKS CLONE VCF COmING SOON

via orange_LED on the forum. Note the image here is actually The Toad (listed for auction here) referenced below, and not the new filter.

"I finished a prototype of this filter and have the pcb laid out already. It is a matter of meeting my budget to have these made. Most likely it will be released late November early december.
Here's the Info.
-it will be self powered and an External VCF for your Modular or DJ/VSt/VA filtering purposes. it will come with a Wall wart plug.
-it has Line Level boosters so if you plug in a 'low' level signal it has a Gain Knob to amplify it. If you do that to a high Synth Level signal you will make a cool distorted signal. It is possible to plug in a guitar direct and amplify.
-there will be 2 of those Boosters and they will have an final 'input' Knob to fine tune Distorted (just the way you want it)sound going into the VCF and Attenuate. Otherwise if you cranked the GAIN all the way it would be over kill sound going direct to the vcf with no way to adjust it. The whole sound input thing was all well thought out.
-it will have (1) onboard LFO, a slim down version of the TOAD lfo.
-I figured out a REZ HACK FOR THIS TOO! there will be 2 switches to give you different flavors of the unique Rez on this thing.
-all the inputs/outputs wil be 1/4" phono
-it will look like the same design as the Toad (lexan and wood) and be called a 'the Tadpole VCF'.
-The size is a little smaller than a DR670 drum machine.
-I have to build one from the final PCB and see about parts/etc before I decide on a price. The goal is to sell it less then 200.00
**Here's more happy news: I got all worked up about this external vcf idea and already have an EMS VCF clone laid out also But I only managed to cram the VCF only, no onboard LFO"

Moog Minimoog

images at this auction
"Minimoog analog synthesizer in near-perfect condition. This unit has recently received a full overhaul by an electronic tech. The following work was done:

* All keyboard bushings were replaced. This dramatically improved the feel of the keyboard. All keys were also aligned.
* All key contacts were deoxidized and cleaned.
* Power supply filter capacitors were replaced with new ones.
* Old IC sockets were replaced with machined gold-plated sockets.
* AC power cable was replaced with one matching in appearance to the original.
* All pots, rotary switches and slide switches were flushed out and relubed.
* Card edge connectors were retensioned and deoxidized.
* All points on the Oscillator PCB were resoldered.
* The Oscillator trimpots were all replaced. This made tuning the synth much easier and made for a more reliable tuning.
* Every last knob and key was manually cleaned.
* Power supply voltages were trimmed.
* The metal chassis was cleaned.
* Blemishes on the woodwork were refinished by a guitar maker to match the original walnut finish as closely as possible.

After this extensive overhaul the Minimoog received a complete calibration - it plays perfectly!"

George's Klee Live on I-5

YouTube via kidtronic

"George built this Klee and the modular below. Here it is running in a hotel room in Bellingham on the way to the Pacific North West synth show at Renton. The sliders on the Klee have a range set by a dial and teh ranges of teh slider are musical intervals: 3rd, 7th, octave, two octaves, etc. New notes are calulated out of the ones you set with sliders based on teh position of teh silver switches for setting teh bits. this is one deep and unusual sequencer. George favours the Thomas Henry oscillator design and wasn't happy with the results of an emf one he built, so the second voice in use here is my Oberheim SEM."

Oberheim Live on the I-5

YouTube via kidtronic

"An Oberheim minisequencer (#10) driving the SEM 2 oscillator synth fed into a Korg Tape echo which is on top of George's modular. The room is an unsuspecting hotel off the I-5 in Bellingham (has a cool radio museum and growlers). We were travelling down from Canada to the Pacific Northwest 2008 synth meet in Renton the next morning. The lower right corner of the sequencer is the rate knob. If you pull it up sequence two determines the length of time for each note. On the SEM the bottom rows are envelope ADSR settings. Usually the weird sounds come from other rooms..."
