KAZE NO TANI NO NAUSICAÄ NAUSHIKA WITH VOCODER

KAZE NO TANI NO NAUSICAÄ NAUSHIKA WITH VOCODER from RED MARTIAN on Vimeo.
"This song was never used for Nausicaä. It was composed by Haroumi Hosono of YMO and the original recording featured the actress Narumi Yasuda on vocals.

This recording was made using the Mattson Mini Modular, an ARP Axxe, a Roland SVC-350 Vocoder, a Prophet-5 rev 1, a Prophet T-8, a Roland Jupiter-6 and a Prophet-600. I am sorry for the poor approximation of the acoustic orchestra.

MaxMSP Processing my Modular

YouTube via dkimcg
"Just documenting a test of getting the audio from my modular into MaxMSP for further processing. The video is an example Jitter patch from Cycling 74's website that reacts to audio, and the max patch is one of the examples modified with my simple A-192 input patch. There's big problems with sync (Max is too slow) and some noise, still have to find the right audio hardware buffer settings and compensate for latency. Bummer. Semi successful, at least the computer and the modular are talking to each other fairly well, except for the lag in audio processing. Could be that I had a Jitter patch and an MSP patch running at the same time on my notebook.

The patch basically takes two LFO inputs from the CV to MIDI converter, does some simple math and spits out a note which the pitch shifting uses to give the modular a new note. Having the LFOs control effects like reverb, delay, mix levels, etc wouldn't be too difficult. I gotta get back into MaxMSP and write some cool stuff for my modular to control. Modular controlled video and realtime sampled granular synthesis are high on the list. :D

Also in the video I take a look at what a few different LF generators do in a signal through Max."

Modular Synth Pic and Roland RE 200

via Andrew:

"The Future Retro Revolution 2 is sequencing the CV 1 input of the Voice of Saturn Oscillator. CV 2 input is coming from the Moog CP251 which is also sending CV into the Moogerfoogers. The output from the Voice of Saturn Oscillator is running into the Metasonix TM-6 which adds some bulk to the signal. I use the Voice of Saturn Sequencer to sequence the CV inputs on the Moogerfoogers which are processing drum beats from the Boss DR880 and the SP505. The Freq Box adds some snarl to the DR 880 which on its own is quite generic sounding. The SP505 sequencer is going into the MWD Geiger Counter before going into the Ring Modulator and Low Pass Filter."

Glitch monster sk-1.mov

YouTube via kidtronic
"This is a one-of-a-kind patchable glitch box. It is dozens of hours of soldering spagetti by the inventor www.kingcapitalpunishment.com You can find it on his website under one of a kind devices. It was once a Casio sk-1. Features I am NOT demonstrating here: Hendrix-style feedback loops using the microphone send and the drum machine glitch out. Oceanus shows some of that drum thing, so instead i thought I'd simply patch up and go. The click beat your hearing are the 8 mechanical relays that switch on the glitch patch. I am also not using the light source VCA. This machine is simply mad, Mad i tell you! You can do melodic flutes with poly-portemento, vibrato and built-in echo but I didn't do that either. Madness in a box. Lots of fun."

Itinerant Keyboard and Diplomat interface module

YouTube via TheUmbrellaCo
"The Itinerant is 5th in the now epic "Tourist" series of circuit bent keyboards built into antique suitcases. It takes a departure being built around the classic kit keyboard design we all know and love for its juicy wonderful analog waveforms. The controls are centered around user assignables rather than presets. The nature of these keyboards is more that of momentary beauty than solid SK-1 predictability. It is shown here sequenced by the Diplomat interface module. The Diplomat is a new addition in the Umbrella Company arsenal. It is a 40 A/D input, 8 midi/analog switching output interface and controller. The main bay features pairs for 40 different ascii signals which are transmitted over a standard usb cable, and can then be used for just about anything. Shown here, the 'a' pair is connected to a plate and alligator clip and is being used to start a sequence in Max which steps through 5 midi messeges at about 185 bpm. The midi is then used by the Diplomat's output section to trigger the connection of 5 respective bends in the main bay of the keyboard. The apple remote is also demonstrated for a bend switching application. Also on the front panel: convenient voltage leads for motors and solenoids, and power/midi indicator leds. Both pieces are available on ebay this week! Feel free to email with questions at theumbrellacompany@yahoo.com
Enjoy!"

ARP Pro Soloist DGX

images at this auction
"This synth is a rare variation on the Pro Soloist. ARP labeled this a "digital synthesizer", but don't let that fool you--there is nothing digital about the sound of this synth. The label simply refers to the rudimentary method of patch storage, which uses some ones and zeros. The sound of this beast is full of creamy 70's analog goodness. There are few controls to alter the patches, but the sounds are really well chosen and useful, so you won't want to change them much anyway. Having a preset synthesizer on stage is advantageous; now you won't have to adjust all those sliders on the Odyssey every time you play out. Check out the pictures of the patch names--it is worth buying this synth just to select the patch entitled, "NOZE".

This synth sounds great. A few of the switches for the "Touch Sensor Effects" are not working. There is no aftertouch or velocity on the Pro/DGX; the switches simply apply an envelope to different parameters. The most important of these switches (REPEAT, WOW, and VIBRATO) do work and GROWL occasionally works on some patches. All the presets work great, as do the slider controls, though BRILLIANCE sometimes has a crackly spot if not used frequently. And, of course, the slider caps are gone."

Update via the world of next tuesday in the comments: "Actually it uses a single high frequency digital square wave oscillator that's divided down then analog waveshaped with an analog signal path, vcf and some fixed filters. One big thing that the digital tech impacts is there is no direct way I've ever seen of to control the pitch via CV. I guess you put a switch under every key though.

The presets are also recalled on a digital matrix, but that wouldn't impact the sound by itself."

"A quick video demonstrating a MOD i did to my Novation midi controller and my ipod touch.

TouchOSC is awesome little software, just like having a Lemur, only infinitely cheaper.. and the mod is completely reversible ..

Analogue Systems rs35 External Processor -Guitar Synth

YouTube via bigcitymusic
"Here is the incredible Analogue Systems rs35 External Processor eurorack synthesizer module.

The rs35 is a frequency (or pitch) to voltage converter. It can turn virtually any sound source into a one volt per octave voltage allowing you to control an analog synthesizer.

We are running a Strat into the Barber Electronics TonePress compressor pedal for added sustain. The guitar signal is then run into the low pass filter section of the A.S. rs110 Multimode filter to roll off some of the highs.

Now we run the audio into the rs35 'Frequency In'. The rs35's voltage out goes to the rs95 voltage controlled oscillator. We're using various modules to alter the oscillator sound including the rs100 Low Pass filter, the rs120 Comb Filter, and the rs290 voltage controlled digital delay/sampler.

Finally, a practical, easy way to play your analog synthesizer with a guitar. Rad."
