“Tiny Pieces of You”

via alka:
"wanted to give you a heads up that Roger O'Donnell is giving away a free download off of his new release (that i also appear on) for xmas!

in his words:
sometimes the absurdities of the record industry amaze even me but it saddens me when musicians get sucked into the vortex in their search for fame and fortune. It never works, never ever but they still try...

So here's a free song that my label and I would like to give away for Christmas. We don't have to ask anyones permission to do this because we think alike and we just love music and we would rather people got to hear good music.

This song is very special to me, I wrote it during a very difficult and moving period in my life and it is dedicated to the love I have for one person and what she went through. She is a special shining light.....

Yet, another simple theme

YouTube via attorks
"Yet another interesting Redshift-like sequence. But I seem to lack the ability to make it into something beautiful like Redshift does.
Three different sequences, an 16 step sequence on the Synthesizers.com with one of the VCO's going through the Ian Fritz 5Pulser, an 1 and later 8 step sequence for the MFM through the CGS Steiner filter only using the Low Pass, and a 8 step sequence for the Nord Lead doing the bass. A simple melody and chord schema I made up in a few seconds which in my opinion does not do justice to the potential of the sequence. But, perhaps I will record and develop this later on."

Linus and Lucy - A Snoopy Buchla 200e Christmas Tune

"Matrixsynth asked for contributions of synth-oriented holiday music, and my sister was in town and wanted to go to the Charles M. Schulz museum, so this Vince Guaraldi song was buzzing through my head, anyway. I grabbbed a MIDI file off the web and tweaked it just a little. I couldn't decide if this was a good thing to do to this poor song, but it was sort of fun."

Me & TC Helicon Singing Christmas Tunes

via Kenneth Elhardt on AH:

"Christmas related T.C. Helicon demos I several months back.

Short demo showing how to get a larger choir sound out of a T.C. Helicon Quintet being used like a vocoder.
http://home.att.net/~elhardt4/TCHelicon_RealtimeChoir.mp3

This demo was done monophonically overdubbing one voice at a time. 4 part polyphony, each part overdubbed 3 times for a total of 12 tracks/people.
http://home.att.net/~elhardt4/TCHelicon_OComeAllYeFaithful.mp3

An earlier test of my trying to sound like a boys choir, but do to not using compression there's a lot of unevenness, and it didn't turn out sounding like a big group. But since it's related to the Christmas season, what the hell.

Aman Amun - Scapegoating

YouTube via ilidz.
"Download Scapegoating and others songs from Waxing for free:
http://amanamun.bandcamp.mu

This is documentation for an interactive-art piece I call the munome which I am using as the backbone of the Aman Amun performance.

It is meant to be a conceptual exploration of taking something that is open source (the monome) and making it even more flexible and open. The monome itself is only a grid of buttons, but this very simplicity also opens up room for almost endless functionality. For this piece I have virtualized this instrument in Max-Msp and added ways to dynamically control it both functionally and visually.

Note that this is only a small fraction of what the Aman Amun performance entails, but it illustrates some of the other ideas I am actively experimenting with. The performance seeks to explore the gradiated region that sits between "live performance," "djing" and "vjing." The monome is clearly an instrument, but the use of pre-recorded samples is very reminiscent of the practice of Djing rather than live performance. The active control of the visual display enters the realm of Vjing, but the visual information (as you will see more clearly in future documentation) is largely controlled by the music itself.

Technical Details:
The Munome is running MLR and tr256 alongside Reason for the drums sounds. I am using Johnney Lee's Wii Whiteboard to take the performance from behind the computer screen and place it out in front of the viewer.

I apologize for the video, audio, and performance quality. Expect more of all of the above in future documentation when time and equipment permits it. Thanks to midimeek, stretta, tehn, and the others of the monome community for helping make this possible. Thanks to Eric Marty and the others of the ARTX Dept. @ UGA for help with equipment and technical details. More to come.

electro-music.com live streaming New Years Eve 2009 floating concert.

" electro-music.com live streaming New Years Eve 2009 floating concert.

To listen, click here!. (on NYE, of course)

We did it in 2006 and 2008 (I think we missed 2007) so why not do it again? Lets have an online electro-music.com international New Year's Eve party and electro-jam. Almost all cultures celebrate the January 1st New Year so this is sure not to offend too many people.

A floating concert is like a floating crap game, it moves around from location to location.

We will set up our shoutcast server to run all day Dec 31 through Jan 1. We'd like people in their studios to set up live streaming of performances, jam sessions, or any kind of musical expression for streaming. The electro-music.com members and lurkers can tune in and share the experience. Hopefully, we will get people volunteering from all over the world to sign up for a time slot. Pick a time convenient for you - it doesn't have to be Midnight in your time zone, but that would be cool.

For those that haven't done live streaming, it is a lot easier than you might imagine. To do the streaming, all you need is a PC with Oddcast (now called Edcast), a free program. If you have a Mac, you can use the Nicecast program (free demo works for a month the last time we tried it) to stream.

If you are are interested in participating, we'll set up a test server just for you to experiment on to make sure you can get it to work.

Once you get your own server assignment, you can test stream all you want. When you time come up on New Years Eve, I will switch the radio.electro-music.com server to reflect you server. You have nothing to do.

If you are interested, please let us know sending me a PM (Private Message) by clicking on the PM button at the bottom of this message. We'll pass out times on a first come basis. I'll stream from my house at midnight Eastern US time. We'll have some electro-friends over to jam. Why don't you do the same? Don't worry about being polished and super professional, this is for fun. Hopefully, we can give some of our DIY synth builders a chance to have their music heard direct from their studios.

It's party time... party time!
All you need to know to start streaming is in the following links:

Edcast (Oddcast) instructions posted: http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-13780.html

Mac OSX users are encouraged to use NiceCast which we have tested.

In 2006 we were able to stream noodles when there was nobody streaming live.
Hopefully we will be able to to this again,.

During the event the streaming will be hosted here: radio.electro-music.com."

Note Richard Lainhart is on the list with the Buchla 200e and Haken Continuum.

Maxi-Korg Repeat Function

"The repeat function has two sliders; one for speed and the other for the duration or width of the note repeating. It also has a mode switch. I set the mode to “A” to retrigger the note I was playing, then fussed with the speed and width to get this wet, growling, engine like noise."
