Clavia May Release Limited Run of Nord Modular G2 DSP Expansion Boards

If you have a G2 or plan on getting one, read this now. via James:

"There is a tread on electro-music.com that would be of keen interest to all Nord Modular G2 owners who don't have the DSP expansion, It appears that Clavia may do a new run of PCBs if the order numbers are high enough, in this case over 50. Here is the post that started it all:

'Clavia reacted possitively on the request to make a new run of the G2 expansion boards.
There are some restrictions though...

1 Clavia wants to sell at least 50 expansion boards to make it profit able.
2 All the components have to be available still
3 Clavia doesn't sell to private costumers, so there has to be a kind of distributor
4 The price isn't set yet.

So at first a poll how many users want an expansion board.
After 50 positive reaction will be counted in this poll, to which a post must be added containing your name and country (which will give an indication about distributing the boards over the world), Clavia can investigate if production is possible and calculate the price.
electro-music.com will notify everyone by Personal Mail.
Note the prices may not be the same world wide due to distributors and shipping costs.

Maybe it's a good thing to arrange something about 'payments in advance'.
Note Wout Blommers is only the go-between!

This poll is only a first step in the whole process...
If there are any problems or a break down I'll let you know in this thread. '

Also another user contacted Clavia not knowing of the previous thread and got this response:

'Hi

This is usually not feasible, since we do not sell direct to end users. Theoretically, we then need to find a way to have dealers in various locations (europe and the US e.g.) to take prepaid orders, and this is a huge undertaking, which dealers usually are not up to - it may seem simple enough, but it is quite difficult to administrate.

We do not have the actual PCB anymore, and the smallest run we could possibly manufacture would be 50 units. We are not going to put this expansion in stock, so the only chance would be if e.g. one european webshop and one US based webshop would be interested in purchasing the whole, final production run of these units. The retail price would then be the same as the last retail, before we cut the price for the "last" units that we had in stock, in the realms of approx. 300 euros plus tax per unit.

In short, if we get an order from a distributor (who then probably would have to have an firm order from a retailer/shop) of 50 units, or two orders from 2 distributors equalling to the same number of units, this could be done.

  1. Encore electronics is now selling an exact clone of this expansion board. The one from Clavia never materialized (ie. the messageboard thread above) so this is your only guaranteed/affordable option. It has been getting positive reviews at Electro Music.
