two black beauties

via Cikira
"I had two of the prettiest items in my studio side by side while I was getting them settled in--both musical interfaces with plenty of black lacquer woodwork. You can tell they want to be together! The genoQs Octopus is familiar, of course. The other is a burl-top four-octave Array Mbira; no MIDI, just organic goodness and a pair of pickups beggin' for delays. They're such an elegant pair, I thought I'd share. :-)"

Update via Chef Barry in the comments: "Search for youtube vids of the Array Mbira. It sounds friggin gorgeous! Like this: [video below]"

Thanks to all of you who come to see my stuff. I really enjoy playing this mbira and it just fills my soul and heart."

  1. Wow, gorgeous. I was in Zimbabwe about two years ago, before the election and the disasters that followed, and I bought a thumb piano as a souvenir. I had never heard of an Array Mbira before--pickups! Very cool. I'll have to look for audio examples.

    I love this blog.
