TUTORIAL: making drum sounds out of sine waves and noises on the ESX1 electribe

YouTube via muzik4machines
"The LFO's on the ESX are not fast enough to make a snare out of a sine wave so I had to use a noise, the ER1 is better at analog-ish drum sounds, next time..."

1978 Vintage Powertran Transcendent 2000 Analogue Synth

via this auction

"1978 Powertran Transcendent 2000 analog mono synthesizer. Designed in the UK by Tim Orr of EMS Marketed by POWERTRAN of Andover, Hampshire. It has been used by the likes of Joy Division and New Order... I have uploaded some extra large photos here"

MOOG SOURCE SN 3647

via this auction
"The Moog Source is a monophonic microprocessor-controlled analog synthesizer manufactured by Moog Music from 1981 to 1985. The Source was Moog's first synthesizer to offer patch memory storage. The design was also the first (and only) Moog synthesizer to feature a flat-panel membrane keyboard to replace the standard buttons, knobs and sliders. Though state-of-the-art at the time, the membrane panels are prone to malfunction after extended use.

In addition to the memory capable of holding 16 presets, the Source features a 37-note keyboard, and two VCOs that can be selected between three waveforms and three octaves. Programmed presets can be saved to a cassette interface to free up the onboard memory for additional new patches. The 24dB/octave VCF has parameters for keyboard tracking, cutoff frequency, resonance, and envelope amount. There are two ADSR envelope generators that can be set in single or multi trigger modes, one for the VCF and one for the VCA. For modulation, the Source features LFO and sample and hold ."

Vintage Oberheim Modular Synthesizer SEM - Pro-expanded

via this auction
"echnical details: The SEM is mounted in a 5RU 19" rack case and contains an internal power supply with an IEC AC connector on the rear panel. There is a custom 1/4" patch panel on the right side that brings out the patch points of the SEM signal flow. This allows you to use the synthesizer in a more modular fashion. The patch panel also contains 8vb and 16vb suboscillator circuitry for each oscillator, each with a volume pot for the suboscillator level. There is also a mixer on each panel as well as a 3-jack mult for modular patching. Ultra bright Blue LEDs. See the photos of the panel for full detail. The customs panels are ENGRAVED (not silkscreened) with each function's name in silver. The custom panels use Cosmo knobs for the pots, the same knobs as found on the iconic Moog synthesizers. These modules will interface nicely with a Moog modular system or even the newer Moog Music products that have patch points available. Of course they will also work with any analog modular synthesizer -- new or old -- provided you can get the patch cables to 1/4" (many companies such as Synthesizers.com sell adapter modules). Work was completed by a respected Los Angeles Synthesizer tech."

Roland SH-1000

via this auction - this is the one from this video

"Roland Sh1000manual

The Sh1000 has historical value being the first synth Roland made but it is also a great little monophonic synth. As Marc Doty below says , dont believe everything thats written or said on the net cause its just one persons opinion. Use you own eyes and ears to evaluate what you like. The presets sound great and can be changed by frequency mod /amp mod. The synth section is very easy to use and you have great control over sound shaping . All parts of the users synthesis section are easy to use and have a very unique sound . The filter section is especially good sensitive ,powerful and raw. it also has some very unique controls such as random noise switch which can be modulated in a number of ways.Very stable tuning with easy access to 3 tuning points ; the pitch knob on the front section (up a 5th /down 5th ) , overall tuning pot on the input section and a tuning pot on the bottom of the keyboard for adjusting the pitch spread of the octaves .

The Sh1000 up for sale is in remarkable condition, as near mint as your going to get for such an old instrument. Its 100% fully working and comes with the original case(even the key) and sheet music stand. I think its a really beautiful instrument."

Youtubetech - original track, kind of techno, house

"Okay, nothing very special. This is the third and final take. First the audio was bad, then the video. This time I got it! Live techno jam with pre-programmed sequencing with Manikin Schrittmacher, MAM SQ-16 and Yamaha RY-30. Bass from Moog LP and DSI Mopho, Strings from Virus and Micro Q, Percussion from Drumstation, RY-30 and Akai MPC 500. Last jam in my 2008 studio setup. Now it's getting rebuild for more efficency. The track is inspired by ripe909 who really does a great job with his tracks & videos here on youtube."

My Proposal to Katy Rokit during MachineDrum Live PA

Published on Jan 5, 2009 KatyRokit

"Shagghie's Live PA at The Kava Lounge on Dec 12th, 2008.
He asked me, 'WYMM', by plugging in robotic vocal samples into his drum machine towards the end of this amazing Live PA. i said yes!"

Elektron Machinedrum, Monomachine and Roland TB-303

Update: some details from Shagghie:
"I proposed to vocalist Katy Rokit during a live PA at the Kava Lounge last month...
I plugged in speak-and-spell style vocals into each part of the MachineDrum during my
last song of the set...such that it would say "Katy Rokit Will You Marry Me", and let those parts build up as I dropped out other parts. This vid is of the last few minutes of the set and captures the proposal, and her delightful reaction, too! (she said yes, amazingly!)

For the synth heads... the live show was centered around the MachineDrum, a Beast 303 (www.thebeast.co.uk), a Kaos Pad 3 for FX and transitions, and an RNC compressor off the back of a Xone62 into the house mixer. Full audio of the entire set in high-res is here

Quite simply, the best night of my life. Thanks to VictorJohn and the Android Cartel and the army of TekFunkers for all your support, being there, and making that night so very special."

"This is a quick 1 take demo made especially for voice encoder and intromix. The Moog vocoder 1979 was almost identical to the bode vocoder which came out in the early 1970s. This blows away my VP330 for power but the roland vp is better for harmonies and singing with. Please see this as only a rough quick demo with mistakes using just the vid cams mic. I will make a proper demo soon."

Nortec Collective Visits BCM

via Big City Music

You might also remember Nortec Collective from these videos from pepemogt, specifically their catchy Tijuana Sound Machine featuring plenty of "Synth Babe." They use classic analog synths including an Oberheim Four Voice, as well as newer gear such as the Tenori-On. They rip a mean accordion as well.
