Ensoniq FIZMO

via this auction

"This particular board does not feature the dreaded LM2940 regulator which has been known to fry many Fizmos. Instead, this Fizmo has the L4940V5 regulator which, according to my investigating, was installed by the Ensoniq factory as a revision. Very rare."

A fast theme

YouTube via attorks

"An uptempo piece of sequencer music. The first sequence you hear is performed by the Synthesizers.com Modular using the CGS Steiner filter. The second sequence is performed by the MFM Modular using the Synthesizers.com Q150 filter. The AKAI AX80 is on chord memory so I can use one note to play chords. The AX80 also controls the pitch of the Synthesizers.com sequence. The difficulty was that the scale to play the chords and change the Synthesizers.com pitch (in Cm) was 2 semitones below the scale for the solo (in Dm). But I didn't wanted to scale down the Doepfer MAQ16/3 which would involve retuning all the knobs. The solo is performed on the Korg 900PS with the Funky Trumpet preset. In the last section the pitch bend switch is engaged."

"this is part 2 of the PSPSeq tutorials. in here you'll find out how to:
- move around the step sequencer
- trigger and untrigger notes
- set the trigger probability and volume at various steps in a loop
- a bit about some of the generators and fx in PSPSeq"

"this is part 3 of the PSPSeq tutorials. in here you'll find out how to:
- set track volume
- set panning for a single step and all steps in a loop
- mute/solo tracks
- modify synth parameters from the step sequencer"

"this is part 4 of the PSPSeq tutorials. in here you'll find out how:
- synthesis parameters are copied from step to step
- how to use copy and paste in the step sequencer
- how to set a control-only step
- how to quick access the menu system
- how to move between loops in the step sequencer"

"this is part 5 of the PSPSeq tutorials. in here you'll learn about the text on the bottom of the screen and how to access and use the transport."

Anyone remember what keyboard type that is? I'm drawing a blank.

"I'm trying to find synergy between my penchant for music making and programming. Here I've written a simple but complete subtractive synthesizer which I'm demonstrating by running a very old MIDI file I wrote thru it and manipulating the sound.

I coded everything except the band-limited oscillators and the filter, both of which I adapted from the excellent website musicdsp.org

Vector Surgeon

"Hello, good evening, and welcome to Vector Surgeon, the Prophet VS editor/librarian. This document explains some of the design principles surrounding the program, how to get started, and how to use it effectively.

What The Program Does
The program currently performs the following functions:

* Transmit and receive patches, singly or in banks, between your computer and your Prophet.
* Load and save patches, singly or in banks, between your computer and its disk drive.
* Transmit and receive banks of waves between your computer and your Prophet.
* Load and save banks of waves between your computer and its disk drive.
* Graphically view banks of patches, allowing copy & paste etc in the same window or between windows.
* Graphically view patches, allowing edits of most parameters.
* Graphically view waves, allowing visual editing by drawing with the mouse.
* Import wavs, aiffs, and straight binary files into wave locations.
* Edits of parameters are sent live to the Prophet, in theory keeping computer & Prophet in sync.
* Edits of parameters made on the Prophet are reflected in the computer display.
* Generate variations on a patch, with various rules determining parameter values.
* Play the Prophet with an on-screen keyboard.
* Play the Prophet from your controller keyboard via the MIDI Thru function."

NAMM: Blofeld Test Pilots

follow-up to this post
Pictures taken by three crazy Waldorf betatesters: Dr. Georg Müller, Till "keep on turning these knobs" Kopper and Boele "SCD" Gerkes.

http://www.waldorfmusic.de
Note: Waldorf stated that they have NO part in this and may consider looking out for more sane beta-testers... :)

Some notes and samples via Boele via the Waldorf list: "Here is an mp3 [samples-teaser1.mp3] showing a tiny bit what samples sound like in the BLofeld engine. Of course these sounds are my preferences which not necessairely have to be yours :D

Don't expect General Midi sounds from Waldorf please. The samples CAN sound like that, but the *real* fun is in mangling these samples with drive, filters, effects and blend them with wavetables and VA oscillators!

And THAT it does REALLY REALLY REALLY well! This mp3 is bare Blofeld recording. No external processing or FX. I was already VERY impressed with the Blofeld, but this option opens a whole new world. Boele takes his hat off for Waldorf. Again."

followed by:
"Two more sounds [samples-teaser2.mp3] using no wavetables at all. The second one has a nice phaser. Without using the phaser ;-) Again, no external FX or processing. Bare Blofeld."

Remember to click on the images for the full size shot. Yeah, I'm getting one...

"A near finished piece. A favourite Casio SA-5 with all the mods as in the totaly bananas bent one.. but the inclusion of a modular design, 2 VCF's and a sequencer! I have improved the power starve mod and there is a cool 'test pin' mod on the OKI chip.. although I forgot to include it in this clip!"

MS-20 ESP Sequencer Simulation

YouTube via Newueel
"Even without a sequencer it's possible to create sequencer-like patterns. Here the Kaoss Pad plays an audio loop which is processed by the MS-20 ESP and S&H for simulating a sequencer.

Basically the MS-20 plays a long boring sound. The ESP changes the sound based on the incoming audio. The vid shows some applications for the different ESP outputs. The S&H is very useful for simulating sequencer steps (clocked by the ESP trigger).

The Kaoss Pad could be replaced by almost any audio generating device. A beat is useful for creating triggers at regular intervals. Other sounds may be especially useful for creating a wider range of CV values. An audio loop is probably the best way to simulate a sequencer."

Description

Randgrid lets you create music wherever you are. The interface is based on classic analog synthesizers, drum machines and sequencers.

You have a very powerful setup at your fingertips with two virtual analog synthesizers and fourteen sampled drum parts.

An advanced step sequencer virtually lets you control every aspect of the drums and synthesizers. Use parameter locks to change cutoff, resonance, envelope modulation, panning and many more parameters for each step in a pattern.

This is a pre release of Randgrid, exiting new features are currently being developed and added, while some might change.
