Clavioline Old Analog Synthesizer

YouTube via sirredfox00
"This is a Demonstration of my Clavioline, a rare old analog Synthesizer and some excerps of old popular recordings, where the Clavioline has been utilized:

1. Frank Chacksfield's Tunesmiths - Little Red Monkey
2. Del Shannon - Runaway
3. Demonstration of my Clavioline. It was recorded with my Mp3-Voice-Recorder - so excuse the bad sound quality! Its the pure sound of the Clavioline, its own Leslie-Sound and effects and its Tubeamp (which is also the case for the keyboard), no extern amplifier, fx, leslie etc was used!
4. Tornados - Telstar"

THROBBING GRISTLE Discipline live @ The Astoria, London 2004

YouTube via nightwatch01. Upcoming tour dates on http://www.throbbing-gristle.com/
"The reformed Throbbing Gristle´s first live perfomance since 1981. Recorded at the Astoria, London on 16th of May, 2004.

See Peter ´Sleasy´ Christopherson, Cosey Fanni Tutti & Chris Carter performing ´´Discipline´´ for the first time since Berlin 1980.

Also there is a strange guy in a black/white stripped shirt sitting on stage much of the time, called Jhonn Balance."

MAQ16 Switch Mod

YouTube via FIXED1T
"The DOEPFER MAQ16/3 Analogue Sequencer has no front panel switch and its been a constant source of hassle having to unplug its Wall-Wart power supply at the back. Also pulling cables at the back of the rack constantly unplugged it.

I could take it no longer and decided to put a power switch on the front and one which looks like it should be there. The Mod took a few hours to do (safely) but works a treat. I decided to video it from my phone.

Let me know if you need more details on how to add a switch to your unit. The music: Angels v Robots I wrote with the MAQ after making the mod.

Prophet 600 from Sequential Circuits

YouTube via DeathByDinSync
"The warm sizzle of a Prophet is timeless... The 600 has such a great tone.

I've recorded this same little tune as an alternate take. It can be downloaded for free here:

Track 11: "Steppin' 600 (11_P600)

Alisa Analog 2 OSC Mono Synthesizer

via this auction

"THE SYNTHESIZER WAS MADE IN RUSSIA IN THE EARLY 1980'S. It makes a unique rough sound which many other russian synth also seem to make. Its more like signal-generators from the sixties that synth-sound from the eighties. Yet its sound has character and depth and is definitely not in any VA-synth! I'LL INCLUDE THE ENGLISH FRONT PANEL TRANSLATION."

"Sorry for the low sound quality and the darkness of the image. Video shot with a small P&S camera, in a dark room, with some noisy people in the audience..."

Note the above set if the full set with better audio for the two previously posted here. You can also see the Halifax set here.

Finally these are from Alessandro Cortini's current tour for Blindoldfreak originally posted here. There are still shows in the tour including Montreal on this Saturday the 7th. Be sure to see the original post and of course blindoldfreak for more. This is a good opportunity to see the Buchla 200e live.

Update: The modular in the videos is the Buchla 200e running through delay pedals.

"Rare FM Answering Machine from Yamaha. In rest mode it shows you date and time and you can save your calls on optional memory cards via memory card slot - thats the TQ 5! Other ingredients: Jomox XBase 09, MFB 502, MAB 303 and Electribe EA1 for sequencing."
Note the MAB 303 is by Will Systems. You can see it clearly in the beginning of the following video.

Puremagnetik Delalias

via KAMONI where you'll find some more info.

"It’s a modulating delay that has some built in digital artifacts and enhanced undersampling aliasing controls. It’s quite cool, if you do the math, you can easily get your aliasing in harmony (or slightly detuned!) with your fundamental - a glorified bitcrusher if you will."

BOSS Dr-110 Modded with Custom Case

flickr set by james_holden
(click for more including one of the inside)

"Jake Fairley very kindly bought me a Boss DR-110, on the condition that I had to modify it. His is a neat affair, in the original case with 15 or so tiny pots crammed in round the sides.

Mine is a total disaster. I've added midi, and as many mods as I could find, but also made a lot of mistakes so it's a bad tempered, unpredictable beast.

ie a perfect drum machine!"

NAMM: NAMM Oddities 2009

The NAMM Oddities page is up. You can find the "Techno" section here. You should recognize quite a bit. Oddly the John Bowen Solaris made the cut. The Assblaster I can understand as well as the Motus Mavis star synth. MOTU's Volta made the list as well.

Thanks to nonymous in the comments of this post for pointing the site out. I completely forgot about it this year.

Blacet Dark Star Chaos

via this auction

"Analog synth module with versatile noise modulator
Voltage controlled clock frequency pseudorandom noise generator
Voltage controlled noise filter
Noise modulated pulse VCO with VC pulse width modulation
Envelope generator with gate, attack, and decay
3 RU high (5.25", 133.4mm) by 3" (76.2mm) wide; allow 7" (177.8mm) depth. Compatible with Paia FracRak. Voltage required: +/-12 to +/-15vdc regulated. Jacks: 1/8" (3.5mm). Panel is black anodized, with white lettering.
When the Dark Star first appeared in 1982, the brochure had the following description:
"Need an amazing source of synthesized sounds at an absurd price? Here you go....a noise oriented prepatched minisynthesizer built around a powerful LSI chip.
The Dark Star TM provides a digital noise source with variable clock, plus a noise filter, LFO, VCO, VCA and envelope generator; a whole panel of synthesizer modules in just a tiny 6 x 4 x 3" package...
You can use it to simulate all those surf, wind, rain, cymbal, explosion, spaceships hurtling across the void and warping out type sounds. Careful design and wide range controls give you a real sound exploration tool; don't be fooled by the low price. Try it as a percussion kit addition, a drone voice, even as a modulation source. The Dark Star just doesn't sound like anything else--we guarantee it!"
Unavailable for many years, the Dark Star now makes a swing through our planetary system....
This reissue of the Dark Star uses the same basic circuit and updates the design with expanded control ranges and CV inputs for the Noise Clock, Noise Filter, VCO and PWM. Use it as a standalone sound generator or interface it with a modular system for some truly wild sounds!
With the interest in chaos theory and fractals in the past few years, this unit provides an excellent means to explore the effects of chaotic (noise) modulation. The results cover quite a wide range from the haunting to the apocalyptic...
Specifications
Front Panel Size: 5.25 x 3" W (Mounting holes and screws provided for Paia FracRack) PCB depth required: 6" Input/Output Jacks: 3.5 mm Gate Input Level: 5 V* CV Range: 0-5V * VCO Range: 0-6.5 KHz (linear response)*** VCO Waveform: pulse with width modulation Noise Clock Range: 50 Hz-32 KHz Attack/Decay Time: up to 12 S Output Level: 1 V** Power: +/-12 to +/-15 Vdc @+25/-6 mA"

White Owl (Circuit Bent Tube Screamer) and SK-1

YouTube via 3rdness
"Deeeelicious!

This is a tube screamer that i've added a few pots on and a photo theremin. Now, in addition to the tasty original sound, it produces a variety of overdrives, oscillating tones, ring mods, and sound crunchies. Rehoused in a "White owl" cigar box.

It also can be used as a stand alone synth. I'll post another video of that.
