"Here is another instance of playing around with a particular module and coming up with something "almost" good enough to post here . . . and going ahead and posting it anyway! ;-)

Sorry for all the keyboard noise! I promise for the next video I'll take the time to attach carrot laden sticks to the heads of the multitude of little donkeys that turn the big wheel the powers my studio and record a proper line out to the computer instead of using the camera mic again!"

Model 500 - 'The Chase' - SH-101 MC-202 TR-606 Moog Prodigy

YouTube via rottenrow
"JH from Dirty Hospital skips lunch to batter down a version of 'The Chase'. The Mac is firing out MIDI clock to the Kenton Pro 2, which is sending arpeggio clock to the Roland SH-101 and DIN sync to the Roland MC-202. The Roland TR-606 is taking sync from the 202. The 202 is also going through the Holy Grail pedal by Electro Harmonix, on the excellent 'Flerb' setting. And of course the bassy goodness comes from the Moog Prodigy. Recorded into Ableton, with a smidgen of compression over the mix. John enjoyed a bigger than normal tea that evening."

Mechanical piano pieces on TENORI-ON(s) [Rehearsals] by Smith

YouTube via znshn. be sure to see these prior posts (scroll).
"Digital adaptation of the "mechanical piano" (also known as "pianola" and "player piano") ways of playing as imagined by Colon Nancarrow in his "Studies for player piano" (and George Antheil in "Le ballet mécanique") using two TENORI-ON(s) and various filters.

N.B.- These rehearsals are part of a series of solo pieces inspired by Nancarrow's works and John Cage's experiments for prepared piano.

I love my Monome!

YouTube via StarfireMX
"This is by far one of the most interesting musical device I've ever came across, to find out more go to monome.org.

This was made with Ableton Live and a Monome 64, using impulse in ableton for drums, and both the lower 'bass' line and the main melody were made using the FAW Circle VST.

The Monome was controlling the main melody using Polygomé written by Stretta (stretta.com) and using the tilt feature of the Monome to control Circle live for some added variance.

I know it got a little long but I was having fun with the Monome and got carried away, beside isn't that what music is about sometimes!

Thanks for watching, please comment!!"

RA: Machine Love: John Tejada Interview

You can find the full interview sent my way via Mark on Resident Advisor.
snip: "If you had to prioritize and sell everything except for five items (not including monitors / mixer), what would they be?

I would need my modular, my Cwejman S1, my Doepfer Maq 16/3, my Moog Voyager and my Eventide Eclipse. If compressors counted as well, I may have to keep my bus compressor over the Eventide. Or wait, the Moog, or uhm.... now I'll probably have a stress nightmare.

How often do you use hardware sequencers like the Doepfer MAQ box?
I use them probably in nearly everything I do. A big reason for this is they send CV/Gate out to my analog stuff which gives me much more creative control over midi. I can send channel 3 of the sequencer to the filter in or anything that has CV in and sequence the parameters. It just sounds great. Also drum-wise, I enjoy using one of the drum boxes to sequence with. But since I do come from a piano background, I also many times just enjoy hammering it all out on the keyboard."

Frostwave Funk-a-Duck Envelope Filter

via the forum where this is listed for sale. "Out of production and very rare-ified... Maker Paul Perry is on an indefinite hiatus at the moment and this pedal is out of production. This is a Mutron III on steroids type envelop filter with High and Low switchable Filters, an up and down knob to dial in the envelop, an over the top resonance knob control that can self oscillate and get very twitchy... This Funk-a-duck is designed for extreme filtering capabilities so you have the standard Mutron or Discumbobulator settings as a starting point. The envelop is chewy and sweeps with a pot from early to late trigger and open. This pedal plays well with others...be it Electric Guitar, Bass, processing drum machines, analogue synths, and anything else that you want to throw at it. This is a deep box, built like a brick in its duck yellow 16 guage steel enclosure and is in excellent condition. Comes with original 14 Volt AC wallwart." Some more details on the forum. Also listed on Ebay here.

Roland GR-300 w/ RC-1324-PDL-V2 Parker PM-10 as G-303 G-808 Controller Vintage Analog Synth

YouTube via WayneJoness

"Roland-Ready Parker PM-10 with a RC-1324-PDL-V2 acts as a vintage Roland G-303 or G-808 to control a vintage Roland GR-300 analog synthesizer. Filter presets, hex fuzz features and more, plus the original three "Craig Anderton" modifications are all built into the GR-300. No "modeling" this is the REAL THING with genuine analog circuitry! Also segments with GR-700, US-2, etc, Godin and Brian Moore guitars."

Custom circuit bent machine with Casio SK-5 etc.

YouTube via thenervoussquirrel
"This project was commissioned by Joe Henson, who specified that it should make as many strange noises as possible. After a few of meetings involving beer and a sketchbook, the plans were made for a machine that eventually included the following:

Modified Neurosmith Musini
Modified Casio SA-2
Casio SK-5 with 24 patch points, separate instrument/drum pitch control and assignable joystick
Modified talking toy educational computer
Patchable modulation section
1950s panel meter connected to audio out (funkyness indicator)
More details at www.nervoussquirrel.com, and please get in touch if you'd like to discuss a new project!"

I MOTM

"I started playing around with the left over patch from my recent MOTM-485 exploration video and came up with a self running patch that sounded interesting to me, especially since there is really only one oscillator being used. (the MOTM-650 arpegiation, COTK C1680 delay and MOTM-485 weirdness really fill things out!)"

According to the description this is at the Cantos Foundation museum in Calgary Alberta and is still working. It was designed for Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters. Note the Ken Kesey's signature.

Update via rick in the comments: "This is the "Sound System" from the bus "Further"..it is made up for 3 stock buchla modules - 190 Dual Reverb, 170 Dual Mic preamp and the 106 6 channel mixer.. the last panel appears to be custom. it was connected to the amps in the bus and allowed the occupants to broadcast their acoustic performances of music, poetry etc. there are no tubes. I assume the transformers on the 170 are what are being referred to... don used transistor based technology on the 100... some ICs were incorporated later on but not on these particular modules."

Siftables Music Sequencer

Update: Ted Talks video. via Create Digital Music

Siftables Music Sequencer from Jeevan Kalanithi on Vimeo.
"This music sequencer allows you to drop samples into a looping track, add gesture-controlled effects and alter the sequence of samples in real time."

You can find more info and videos on David Merrill's Siftables page. Below is the set from Vimeo. The videos pretty much show what these can do. The following is a brief excerpt from the site. There's no mention if these will ever become available.

"Siftables are independent, compact devices with sensing, graphical display, and wireless communication capabilities. They can be physically manipulated as a group to interact with digital information and media. Siftables can be used to implement any number of gestural interaction languages and HCI applications."
