Analogue Solutions TBX-303 Monophonic Analog Synth

via this noisebug auction
"KEY FEATURES OF TBX-303

* Pure analogue voice circuitry.
* Accurate TB303 circuitry clone.
* Physically the same size and layout.
* Extra tone controls and circuits for more sound variety e.g. LFO, CrossMod.
* Rugged steel construction.
* MIDI In for software sequencer control.

The TBX is a bass machine that can play a bass line via a MIDI device.

We have tried to accurately duplicate the analogue voice circuitry of the TB303, using the same discrete components where possible.

We have also tried to duplicate the look where possible, though high manufacturing costs have prevented us having an identical case and knobs.

Note; the sequencer has not been re-created. We have not duplicated the sequencer - this is a MIDI only device. I know that won't please everyone, so we apologies here to those.

BASS AND THE TBX

A musical bass line involves many complex factors, such as different pitches and beats, and consequently it is a difficult thing to reproduce automatically. It may vary depending on the rhythm, chord progression, style of music and the character of the musician.

Sometimes it can take the role of a low melody, then it might outline the chords or become a strong rhythmic influence in an ensemble. But overall it is a very important part of the rhythm section, following the chord progression, mainly using the root and fifth note.

The TBX cannot memorise the tone colour - it has no 'memories', just like all the classic synthesisers of old. The bass sound is changed using the TONE CONTROL SECTION. In this way the TBX can create an appropriate Bass sound for the bass line you have written.

Main spec

Basically the analogue voice of a 303 circuit with MIDI and some extra features like noise, LFO etc.

Extra tone controls:

VCO level
External Audio level
Squelch - to add more resonance
Cross mod (VCO to Cut-off)
MIDI Mod (MIDI control of Cut-off from Velocity or a Controller)
LFO Mod / LFO Speed (Square and Triangle)
VCA Decay
Overdrive

Other features:
Audio input - through filter

Headphone socket

Uses the original 303 voice circuit, and analogue components (where possible - many are discontinued). We tried to get the sound original, and in our opinion it sounds just like a 303 - but of course there will always be to very few who disagree!

NOTE: there is no internal sequencer. Please don't debate with us whether that was the right or wrong thing to do. We did our best with the time and resources we have."

Audio Damage PulseModulator Available Free

More info on Analog Industries

"It is a fairly odd plug-in, I'll be honest. It is a semi-model of this pedal, an optical tremolo Electro-Harmonix put out in the 70s. Three LFOs drive a single VCA, resulting in some quite strange waveshapes. We gave it tempo sync because, well, why not?"

I remember posting about it back in 2006 (scroll).

JH Living VCOs Pre-Order

via JH:

"Hi,

the pre-order phase of my "living VCOs" project has begun.

(See http://www.jhaible.de/living_vcos/jh_living_vcos.html for details about the project.)

Pricing is EUR 27.00 per board (that's for 3 VCOs plus an oscillator
driver!)

plus a single EUR 6.00 shipping flat charge for worldwide shipping,

regardless how many boards you are ordering and where you live.

It does *not* include any customs fees or tax that you may (or may not) have to pay in your county.

What you get is a double-sided printed circuit board with component overlay, approx. size 160mm x 100mmm.

You have to buy the electronic components for this, and build the device, yourself. (Check the above website regularly for updates and building hints, bill of matrials etc.)

If you want to place a pre-order, please send me an email to the following adress:

jhaible@debitel.net

and use the FOLLOWING FORM (fill in your data instead of [],

for instance: "2 Boards" instead of "[quantity] Boards")

I'm ordering [quantity] pieces of the Living VCOs PCB for EUR 27.00 per board + EUR 6.00 single shipping flat charge for any number of boards.

I'm aware that I may have to pay additional amounts of customs and tax in my country.

I'm aware that I'm only buying blank PCBs that may help me building an electonic module - I'm *not* buying a diy kit, not a "project" - just pieces of FR4 with copper traces.

I know how to build electronic circuits and I am trained in electrical safety matters.

The seller of these PCBs will not be held responsible for any damage that results from these PCBs, directly or indirectly.

MIDI Triwave Picogenerator (Introduction)

YouTube via 4mspedals. remember, you can search on 4mspedals on the top left search box for more.
"MIDI Triwave Picogenerator driven by a standard MIDI keyboard. Audio is from Triwave's analogue oscillators. The MIDI Triwave can run as a standalone noise-maker, with 3 LFOs driving the oscillators, and at the same time MIDI Note signals control the pitches. The oscillators can be triggered by MIDI (beginning of video) or free-running (rest of the video).

Carriage Return – the final DIY release from Snatch Tapes

"To mark the 30th anniversary of the release of first Snatch Tape in 1979 we are pleased to announce the issuing of a final DIY cassette. Entitled Carriage Return the work consists of two twenty minute sound collages assembled from the thirty years of accumulated reel-to-reel tapes, cassettes, mini disks, CDRs in the Snatch Tapes archive.

Focussing on music and voice-overs originally recorded for various film and video projects Carriage Return weaves a fragmented narration concerning ghost sightings, car crashes, ley lines and hidden bends in and around Bluebell Hill in Kent, England. Mixed with the spoken words is prepared piano, VCS3 synth, circuit bent Casio, shortwave radio, pots and pans and the usual melodic cacophony we have come to expect from Snatch Tapes.

Snatch Tapes is well know for its DIY approach and this final tape is a true Do It Yourself release in that listeners are supplied with all the files needed to make up their own cassette. Provided are two 20 minute mp3 files (one for each side of the tape) and full sleeve and label artwork ready to print off at home. All you need is a cassette deck, a blank C46 tape and a pair of scissors (or scalpel for a cleaner cut).

As the cost of distribution has been reduced to zero the release is provided absolutely free of charge. Listeners may of course use the mp3 files on their iPods on the understanding that after a thirty-day trial period they should either transfer the files to cassette or erase them

Collectors wishing to archive their copies of Carriage Return may send their completed tapes to the Snatch Tapes HQ where for a small fee they will be authenticated, signed, numbered and returned.

All the necessary files for your Carriage Return can be found at
http://www.psouper.co.uk/snatch/index.html

Happy Taping

"Randomizing the timing to the Synthesizers.com Q960 step sequencer by using a Noise Generator into a Sample & Hold then the output voltage to an Instrument Interface module. Tweak it just right and you get a random gate pulse for the shift input on the Q960 sequencer.
This track also uses the Pan module to give a stereo ping pong effect from two separate oscillator, filter, envelope and amplifier voices. Two hard synchronized LFO's sculpted the filter even more for a tighter pulse sound. A Ring modulator and tuning the oscillator voices in octaves gave a variety to the voices. The Trigger bus module gave accent selection on one filter voice. All modules are Arrick Robotics synthesizers.com. The reverb is a Lexicon MX200."

Jerry Markham plays Like to Get to Know You Well - Howard Jones cover

YouTube via jerrymarkham
"I put this together to demonstrate Roland's RPS (Realtime Phrase Sequencing) integration into my current keyboard setup. In this video, Roland JP-8000 for bass and brass. Roland XP-60 for pads and RPS. The two phrases were preprogrammed and assigned to the lower two (unused) keys. You'll notice me changing patches between parts of the song. The phrases are staying in time with the internal sequencer clock that is inaudible. I programmed the drum sounds to sound like the EMU Drumulator and SImmons SDSV that Howard was using in 82-83. In addition, the backing sequence was recreated to sound like the Sequential Circuits Pro One that Howard also used around 82-83. So, hopefully you get an idea of what it looked like from behind the keyboard, except Howard had to lug around much more gear. Leave your comments. Would love to hear from you. I'll be playing my own songs in this format in the DFW area in 2009-2010. Look me up at a show."

MIDI Triwave with Bend Matrix Sequencer (part 1)

video upload by 4mspedals
