Jupiter-4 Memory Expansion

via Lyndon on AH
"Throwing this out there - does anyone have the notes on the JP-4 64 User Preset memory expansion upgrade [big knob]? Roland provided a drawing and parts. Would be nice to find this info somewhere. Here is a pic of one with the mod"

If anyone knows feel free to comment or contact me directly. My contact info is on the bottom right of the site.

KORG 770 Univox Analog Synthesizer

via this auction
"There are lots of unique and useful features to be found, like a "chorus" waveform setting for OSC 1, "pitched noise" on OSC 2, two LFOs--one of which only applies to the pitch of OSC 1, and the other only effects the filter and speed of the chorus waveform. Intrigued? Well how about autobend on OSC 1, with extensive control (speed, delay, bend up/down), or two ring modulator settings on OSC 2? The filter is magical, with Korg's first version of the resonant highpass/lowpass combination. Another amazing feature is the ability to run external audio through the filter and/or the ring modulator, which is one of the best 70's ring mod sounds ever. Truly a stunning synthesizer, the 770 rivals its more famous Korg siblings in sound, design, and features."

A/DA ADA Harmony Synthesizer

via this auction
"It is essentially a lo-fi polyphonic harmony device with Memory Man type echo w/crazy regeneration that takes your signal and can split it to any interval from 2 octaves down to one octave up. Two harmony intervals can be set up. Where things get interesting is how you set everything in relation to 2 separate delay/echo times that work in conjunction and out of conjunction with each other. Echo/Delay from 12ms to 250ms. Come of the effects include sequencer like arpeggios that trail up and down, wobbly textures, keyboard type pad drones, echo that will shift and blow your head off. Different harmonies can be punched in with the 2nd harmony ft. switch.

The amount of chips and processing that created this in 1978 is mind boggling. Only 800 of these were released for $500 in 1978. Robert Fripp of King Crimson owns 3 of them for his rig."

This module is one of the most under-rated modules in the Arrick Robotics lineup. The ability to thicken the simplest waveform like a single sine wave in this demonstration is one example."

An arpeggiated theme

YouTube via attorks

"The first theme with the Waldorf Q Keyboard. At first you hear the sequence from the Synthesizers.com Modular driven by row 1 of the Doepfer MAQ16/3. After that the volume is raised for the sequence from the self built Modular driven by MAQ's row 2. Then the arpeggiated sound of the Waldorf Q Keyboard, which is MIDI synchronized from the Doepfer MAQ16/3, comes in. This arpeggiated sound reminds me somewhat of the 'Black Noise' album by 'FM' from some 30 years ago, for example the track Aldebaran. The strings are performed by the Clavia Nord Lead 1 and the solo is played on the Korg 900PS. I had to shorten the video somewhat because of the YouTube limit of 10 minutes. The original video can be seen or downloaded from my website after 12 april."

Description for this shot:
The words of Richard Lainhart:
'As my notes on the Early Works page indicate, my first real compositions were created on the Moog Modular synthesizer, and I've had a sympathy for analog systems and techniques ever since. But once personal computers, MIDI, and digital audio processing became viable tools for composing and performing electronic music, I moved away from modular analog synthesizers, which weren't affordable for the average musician and were never really intended for live performance anyway.

However, one consequence of my recent collaborations with Jordan Rudess, particularly in our live electronic performances in which Jordan plays his MiniMoogs, is that I've come to miss the immediacy and organic sound of analog modular synthesizers. As a result, I decided to order a Buchla 200e Electric Music Box, which I received in June of 2007. I chose the 200e not only because of its compact size and functional density, but also because it's the only patchable modular synthesizer with preset memory, making it ideal for live performance.'"

tiction experiment 1

YouTube via organofqwerty
"My first attempt at a Tiction piece, triggering various instruments in Live 8.
Thanks to Hans Kuder for making a very cool thing."

"Tiction is a flexible, nodal music sequencer.

It’s pretty simple: Each node represents an event, and a connection from one node to the next triggers the next event after a certain number of tics. Nodes send MIDI note messages and/or MIDI controller change messages when triggered. Connecting nodes in a circuit lets you start a repeating pattern when one of the nodes is triggered.

A node can change its pitch and controller values based on its position on the screen. When a node is triggered, it performs some physical action: either repelling or attracting other nearby nodes, or nudging itself in a random direction. The physical interaction between nodes allows you to construct complex, rhythmic melodies and effects without having to draw filter envelopes or touch a traditional sequencer."

"Some of you may wonder what this baking story has to do with "Granada" and "Lay love on you".
But when Daft Punk can do a techno video about making pasta sauce ("Revolution 909") I can very well make an organ video about making cupcakes!
The drum machine is a Roland CR-68, the organ is a Yamaha HE-8 and I also used the little Viscount RBX-850 organ and the Roland JX-8P synthesizer."
