RAB Meets Playboy

via Dave of umop.com and creator of our favorite synth rat, The Packrat: "Just working on a cartoon for playboy.com featuring characters from Retarded Animal Babies. This pic shows a scene with the Hamster character playing on a 90% autobiographical synth rig. There's a weird red & grey keyboard that's totally made-up, otherwise it's my Plastica rig. The Axis keytar isn't done yet, but Customsynth will be finishing it in the hopefully not-too-distant future. The white JD-800 ("Gandalf") that he made is in there, a boring ol' TR-61, and a Nord Lead Anniversary. The brand names have all been changed, since these companies may not want to be associated with completely filthy animations." :) Note Dave also plays in Paralax. You can find a few of his vids previously posted here.

AtomoSynth Mochika2 Now Available

follow-up to this post.
via these auctions
"www.atomolabs.blogspot.com
Make insane effect loops, cool phrases, fat basslines or crazy percusion rhythms, change the sound in real time by tweeking the knobs on stage or in studio or connect it to your favorite effects (delay, flange, etc, etc)and create a wide sort of rhytm textures and soundscapes with this beautiful lighted analog sequencer synth box...

And now sync it to any midi device like a drumbox midi sequencer or computer and play live!!!

This synth features one analog square and saw waveform VCO (voltage controled oscillator) with a huge pitch range, from subsonic to ultrasonic sound.

One square and triangle waveform LFO (low frequency oscillator), that modulates the VCO for the vibrato effect creating old school arcade Atari-like sounds.

White noise generator that triggers the VCO and can create percussion like sounds.

8 step Sequencer with note on/off switch and pitch knob for each step

It features a 1/4 inch audio output, 1/4 inch CV Output (to control other analog gear).

The Mochika2 features a MIDI input to sync the Mochika with any midi device sending midi clock signals, the mochika can sync 1, 2, 4 and up to 8 times the tempo of the master clock midi device, also it can be used as a midi to gate converter to sync other analog gear using the CV output of the Mochika2.

Also the instrument is ligthed with 1 bright green led that indicates the LFO Rate, and 8 blue leds to indicate the step that is being played. Very useful when you play it on a dark stage.
The Analog Sequencer is packed in a cool laser cut clear acrilic case that shows all the hand made analog circuitry.

The instrument is powered directly from 110V or 220V AC.
Dimensions: 230mm(W), 170 mm(D), 80mm(H. incuded rubber feet and knobs)

octave cat analog synth

"It is the early version ,not the srm. It has a small modification that moved the cv out to the low audio output so you can control it with a converter or another analog synth with cv and gate outs. I was using it with my obsx and sounded awesome with the oberheims output going in to the cats audio input, and with the obsx in mono mode made for a huge mono sound with lots of mod and env control mixed with the already fat cat sound. The cats cv and gate are both wired to one jack and not useful unless hooked up to another cat. So the cv was hooked up to the low audio output, and can be easily returned to original cond by returning the one wire, and can do so if you would like. Also the keyboard bushings are new and feels great."

I used a theme for this one, imagine yourself on another planet, and begin to explore your journey. More then 10 minutes pure hardware power. Enjoy and leave a comment if you wish."

A synthesizers.com System 88, my yusynth modular I designed and built (more details at http://yusynth.net), a Laboratory System Roland 700 cabinet and a mixed Club of the knobs (COTK) and MOS-LAB modular (kind Moog modular clone).

"Here is a new piece of music from me. The title is a hommage to the great (and sadly late) Nam June Paik. For the video clip I filmed out of my window and forced the record through TroikaTronix Isadora (c) old school like video synthesizer effects like colourizing, chroma and luma keying. The randomly modulated video effects were rendered in real time. The music was played by me with analogue synthesizers: Doepfer MS-404 (bass drone sound), Doepfer System A-100 (sequencer bass line), Crumar Multiman S/Yamaha Electone Organ (string ensemble sounds).

Because of the limitation in UTube I am only allowed to present an excerpt of the full lenght (18 minutes) video...

So turn off the light and play it loud! ;-)"

"Here's the third part in our Rhodes Chroma demo series, this time featuring sounds from Bank C (including the patch we used for our ominous intro). These all came preloaded with the CC+ upgrade - we haven't even gotten to programming our own yet. Should be a lot of fun! This demo features a mix of Mike and myself taking turns going through various patches. Keep in mind, there's no reverb, delay, or effects of any kind in any of these videos; just the Chroma being recorded direct.

Update: The press release:
"Smule™ Launches Leaf Trombone World Stage

First Massively Multi-player, Musical Game for the iPhone and iPod touch

Menlo Park, Calif. – April 15, 2009 – SonicMule, Inc. (Smule), a premier developer of interactive sonic applications for the iPhone platform, announced today the availability of Leaf Trombone World Stage, the world’s first massively multi-player musical game for the iPhone and iPod touch.

Smule, the company behind Ocarina and Sonic Lighter, presented a sneak peek of the Leaf Trombone World Stage at Apple’s iPhone 3.0 event last month. As the name suggests, anyone can perform a tune on the Leaf Trombone before a global audience. A player can also request a panel of self-appointed judges, randomly selected from anywhere in the world, providing an instant critique of the performance, using a combination of emoticons and text. Judges can reward a performance or veto it mid-note.

The World Stage will separate the Music Gods from the Wannabes. “People can play at home, alone, as badly as they want. It’s like singing in the shower. Where’s the challenge? The thrill?” asks Smule CTO and co-founder Dr. Ge Wang. “We are inviting people to abandon their egos and put it all out there, before a global audience and a potentially merciless tribunal.”

Inspired by traditional Chinese leaf instruments, Smule’s Leaf Trombone is ideally suited to both the iPhone and iPod touch platform. Users move the slide up and down to change pitch, and, with iPhones, blow into the microphone to create sound. Leaf Trombone ships with a group of songs already loaded, so users can immediately begin learning how to play the instrument. A music box provides accompaniment, and floating leaves show beginners where to place the slide to achieve the correct note. Once users have mastered a song, they’re ready to perform on the World Stage.

“Leaf Trombone was developed to unleash people’s creativity and their inner rock star.” said Wang. “Now, with the Leaf Trombone, anyone can perform on the World Stage.”

For more Voice Box product info, see:
http://www.ehx.com/products/voice-box

The Voice Box packs a multi-functional vocal synth processor into a tough and compact chassis. Sing, and you'll have a troupe of backup singers following you in perfect harmony. Or use the built-in vocoder to unleash classic synth-robot sounds.

Diana Ross had the Supremes, Brian Wilson had the Beach Boys, Kraftwerk had The Robots. You have the Voice Box.

The harmony processor creates 2- to 4-part harmonies directly from your vocals, in the same key as your accompanying instrument. Studio-quality reverb lets you independently add depth to your dry and harmony vocals.

The focused 256-band articulate vocoder, designed by the same EMS genius who made vocoding famous, features adjustable harmonic enhancement and controllable formant shift.

Plug in your mic and your instrument, and let your new voice -- or voices -- be heard!
* Harmonically matches any electric instrument you plug into it
* Professional quality pitch shifting algorithm produces realistic harmonies
* The Low & High Harmony independently produces two harmony notes: 3rd and 5th
* 9 accessible programmable presets
* Natural Glissando
* Gender Bender knob allows for male/female formant modification
* Built-In Mic Pre with Phantom Power & Gain Switch
* Balanced XLR Line Output: Interface directly with any mixing board or A/D converter
