Clues Uses the OLPC and Tam Tam

See the post on MATRIXSYNTH-C. The OLPC is the one laptop per child program mainly focused on third world countries. They had a program where you could buy a laptop for donation and receive one in return for free. TamTam is a music program that comes with the laptop. See the OLPC label below for more. Be sure to see the MATRIXSYNTH-C post for Clues. More info on TamTam here.

BugBrand Modular Feedback Synth

YouTube via machinate
"A improv jam on my portable modular synth setup, exploring some of the sounds from a BugBrand/MakeNoise/Doepfer patch.

All sounds derived from a single, wailing pwm oscillator. QMMG in the feedback path of BugBrand PTdelay with a secondary PTdelay for space. Oh and way too much modulation. This patch is full stereo, it really likes HD."

Roland S-50 Sampler Demo Song - "Sunday Paper"

YouTube via peahix
"I recently scored a Roland S-50 sampling keyboard off craigslist for $60, and have been putting it thru its paces with floppy images downloaded off the net. Since there's not much in the way of demos of this beast online, I thought I'd make a video of the S-50 running its Director-S sequencer OS and playing the demo tune that came on the disc, called "Sunday Paper." Cheesy stuff, for sure, but it'll give you a basic idea of the sound quality of the S-50, what it can do in real-time, and also a small taste of the sort of factory samples that were generated for it.

Owners of vintage Roland samplers will find this to be a valuable resource of sounds and information: http://www.generalconcepts.com/sgroup/"

"Bent Speak and Math, taking it through the paces. The thing on the top is a pressure sensor -- first time I've used one on anything. It's fun... kind of like the bending version of a whammy bar."

Screaming Angels - Prototype 6 Way Stereo Optical Theremin Noise Maker

YouTube via ChrisLody
"Don't worry, It's meant it go dark in the middle! Here's something fairly obvious to try with a hex schmitt trigger inverter chip. Wire up all six sections as optical theremins with 3 in each channel for some weird stereo atonal action."

Retrosonik DIY and Darkstar Mods

http://www.retrosonik.com

Darkstar Mods

"By adding two little transformers to the outputs of this device I have changed it from an amusing but thin & sterile sounding digital device into a Phat sounding analog style MONSTER!! The whole procedure only took about an hour to perform but the differance is profound! The highs are much smoother ;none of that digital edgyness & the lows are much fuller. The basses are just ....bassier!! All around the Darkstar just gets darker!

I did this Mod to the First Version of the Darkstar. The Latest version has more outputs so I do not know if there is sufficent room to install the transformers inside the unit, like I did on mine."

KlangeMachen
"Klange Machen means Noise Machine(roughly) in German. This is a little noise making beastey based on the long extinct SN76477 chip. This chip can still be purchased from Unicorn Electronics ,for about twenty bucks each. The 'keyboard' is part of the etched PCBoard and you use a little probe to touch the keyboard to produce an obnoxious sound. The scale is in no way equally tempered but a lot of fun to play, nonetheless. It was built in a surplus CATV case & has a built in speaker and 1/4 inch audio out, as well."

"The Maelstrom is a theramin and Zoom FX processor that I built into an old bakelite radio, that I salvaged. It also sports a two tone paint job & a built in Plasma Ball for added personality. The audio out put from the theramin Passes through the Zoom 506 bass processor where up to 9 FXs can be stacked & saved into 64 unique presets. The presets can be advanced via a foot pedal that can be pluged into a jack on the Back panel or from buttons on the front of the unit. Built for Marty of the Swinging Love Hammers."

ARD Theme Song (not really)

YouTube via se7ense7
"I made a song that fits a sample of the intro of the 'war of the worlds' LP perfectly...

Synths used: Juno 60 for chords and basses and JX3P for the slightly off-tune leads at the end...

Bliss.

Grtz,
ARD"

"Songs I made by request for a Dutch movie Company...

These songs are all software, because I'm currently moving, and all my gear is stacked up in cases and boxes...

Ableton for sequencing,
TAL UNO 60 plugin for basses-chords and strings, TAL BASSLINE for... basses and arps. Some RS7000 samples on the drums together with trusty Drumatic (simple). Soms AN200 distorted bass (that I sampled into my computer some months ago)... Some other samples I collected through the years..."

KORG MicroKORG Beats The Yamaha DX7?

According to the Big City Music blog, KORG rolled out the 100,000th Korg MicroKorg. Anyone know if this beats the Yamaha DX7? If so, it's a pretty big deal... Update: looks like the KORG M1 holds the record, not the DX7. See the comments in this post.
