Virtual DIY CV Interface Modules

via RH

"It's a CV generation application that I have written (not just a graphic - this baby moves, scrolls and loves to be touched!). Essentially there are 6 independent oscillators and a sequencer. You can choose the waveform for each osc (11 types including all the usual plus overall min, overall max + others - you can even draw in your waveform too), control amplitude, frequency, offset (midpoint), upper and lower clip levels (all by MIDI CC or touching the screen). Then you can choose which oscillators to route out through the tobacco tin and into the real-world modules." - RH

Update: see this post for a vid and more images.

Binary sequence

Binary sequence from Peter Speer on Vimeo.

"I want a Blacet Binary Zone, but the module isn't available in Euro format. So, I've tried to recreate it using what I already have.

In this patch:

The Low Pass Filter in a Frostwave Resonator is set to self-oscillate. It's then sent to a ring modulator (a Frostwave Blue Ringer).

The Mix Out on a Doepfer A-143-1 is sent to the Frequency CV IN on a Plan B ELF LFO.

The Square Out from the LFO is sent to a multiple, and from there to:

1. the Trigger In on a Doepfer A-160 Clock Divider.
2. the Gate In on a Doepfer A-140 Envelope Generator.

The /2, /4, /8 and /16 outputs on the 160 are sent to Inputs 1, 2, 3 and 4 on a Doepfer A-138c Polarizing Mixer.

The out the mixer is sent to the top half of a Doepfer A-170 Dual Slew Limiter, and from there to the CV In on the Blue Ringer.

The /32 out on the 160 is sent to the CV In on the top have of the Doepfer A-150 Dual Voltage Switch. The 160's /64 output is sent to the first I/O jack (the second I/O is left empty). The output of this channel is sent to an attenuator, and from there to the Low Pass Frequency CV In on the Resonator.

The output from the ring modulator is sent to the top VCA in a Doepfer A-132-3 Dual Lin/Log VCA (the Lin/Log switch is switched for a moment at 2:00), and from there to an FMR RNC (which is not doing anything to the quiet notes) and then to the computer. No other outboard, besides the compressor.

The output of the 140 is sent to CV IN on that VCA, which you can hear at 0:44.

Control over these presets are octave balance, envelope attack, and LFO modulation depth and rate. Encore Electronics Nord Modular G2 DSP expansion board

via Encore Electronics
"The Nord Modular G2 DSP expansion board has the same functionality as the original out-of-production board. It adds 4 DSPs to your Nord Modular G2 based instrument. Installation is extremely simple. No soldering necessary. It comes with mounting hardware.

Note: This only works with G2 instruments: G2, G2X and G2 Engine.

It does not work with prior Nord Modular hardware."

1978 Baldwin Fanfare Deluxe Organ Demo Record

"A vintage demo flexidisc for the Baldwin Fanfare Deluxe home organ."

Update via Milo Johnson in the comments:
"I used to sell these at a Baldwin store in Daytona Beach back when they were new in the late Seventies, and as surprising as it might be, this was a monstrously good instrument that I would love to own today. Forget the "Fun Machine" rhythms and one-finger accompaniments, the actual sounds of the organ section, string section, and and in particular brasses, were fantastic. And I'm NOT an organ fan to begin with so for me to offer any kind of praise like this is way out of character, but this was a really complex, deep, and forward-thinking instrument and the last of the big Baldwin organ series made before they went to digital microprocessor instruments. I didn't notice any performer credits, but just listening to it I'd be willing to bet this was Baldwin demonstrator Bill Pedrick who played for this demo and Bill could make these things sit up and do tricks, truly a tremendous player that attracted customers to the store whenever he dropped by. Thanks for posting this!"

A melancholic theme

YouTube via attorks
"This is a somewhat melancholic theme so I hope you won't get depressed ;-)
The ring modulator sounding 8 step sequence is produced by the Synthesizers.com Modular using a MFOS Dual VCA and the faster 16 step sequence comes from the self-build Modular. The Waldorf Q Keyboard produces an AKAI-AX80-like string sound. The first solo comes from the Clavia Nord Lead 1 and after that the volume is turned up for the Creamware MiniMax ASB which is also controlled from the Clavia keyboard. The Roland XP-80 produces a Mellotron Violins sound."

"Favorite Hardware
Predictably it has to be my euro rack modular, two years ago I would have said the DSI Evolver, but the modular has eclipsed that. Patching is akin to playing chess, or raking a sand garden, it’s a blank slate with a kazillion options and if you manage to explore every option just swap out a module with another one and suddenly you are back to option 1 with a kazillion to go, oh and it sounds good too. The resurgence of modular synthesis has to be an indicator that humanity is getting better."

VINTAGE USSR SOVIET ANALOG SYNTHESIZER POLIVOKS POLYVOX

via this auction

"Polivoks had been produced since 1982 by Formanta electronic factory (one of the biggest at the time); it was sold exclusively in the USSR. Polivoks has its own particular electronic parts, reliable keyboard (49 notes F to E) made in magnetically controlled contacts; synthesis modules consist of independent boards, which is convenient for maintenance. The synthesizer has 2-voices polyphony; each oscillator works with a keyboard note independently; two types of filters - bandpass/lowpass and external input for cutoff control. In addition, Polivoks is housed in an original body of uncommon design with handy controls. Being closed with a cover, the synthesizer turns into a strong aluminum case.

Pickup coil feedback loop experiment

YouTube via ChrisLody
"I had some fun making this!

All the sound originates from the sound activated flower in the centre of the screen. The little black blob on top of it is a little interference pickup coil that I made. I found the flower made noises I could detect when it moved with this coil. The coil goes to a little battery powered amp as a sort of pre-amp. From here they go to an Alesis Guitar Fx (Stupid name!) multi fx pedal for manipulation and then out to my monitors.

The flower is triggered by sound so as long as there is a delay somewhere in the fx it constantly re-triggers itself for more manipulation.

Great fun!"

Ben / Michael Jackson / Theremin

YouTube via copperleaves
"Here is a theremin rendition of one one of the late, great Michael Jackson's early hits, BEN (1972), played on the Moog Etherwave Pro theremin. The volume configuration of my E'Pro has been recently improved by the addition of a module designed by French electronics wizard Thierry Frenkel and I am really pleased with the results. This song seemed like a good way to show off Thierry's modification and, at the same time, celebrate Michael's amazing but very troubled life."

I added a second ribbon as well as two fine tune pots and a pot to control the voltage going to the IC in order to create more glitching. There are two outputs one for ribbon A and one for AandB. Runs off standard boss 9V supply. There is a problem with the oscillator design that causes it to randomly go on and off at a low freq. that is the clicking that is hear in the beginning."
