Plan B Drummers

YouTube via bigcitymusic http://bigcitymusic.com/
" Plan B offers some alternative modules to your everyday "East Coast" style modules. In this patch we're using a multitude of different modules, including some Cwejman and Analogue Systems. The heart of this patch is the incredible sounding Model 13 Dual Timbral Gate. The M13 is in fact a low pass gate which is basically a cross between a low pass filter and a VCA. This is what gives us the beautiful, drum-like decay to the random pulses. The actual envelope is super short but the vactrols in the circuit ring longer. We're also using some random voltages in here. The Model 24 Heisenberg Generator is basically a sample and hold module, well, two of them really. The bottom section of the M24 allows you to move to the next random voltage when it receives a trigger or gate pulse. The Plan B Model 15 oscillator and the Cwejman VCO-6 are our sounds sources, each having it's frequency modulated at a high rate. This is what gives you the hand slapping sound that a typical hand drum would have. The Plan B Model 17 is also being used to great effect. The Triple Event Timer senses how hight the voltages coming in are. There are three pots to set the threshold, deciding when a pulse is allowed through. We're get more into that later.

Looking for some different sounds? Check out some Plan B stuff."

"Get Ready for Space Travel Earthlings
The Apollo is a battery-powered (1-9V), mini-Theresynth™ with 1/4" output, built-in speaker & incredibly spaced-out analog sounds. It's solidly built into a space-age, hand-painted, aluminum case with Moog knobs, high-quality photocell, green LED and rubber feet. I wanted to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Lunar Landing with it's 60's spaceship stylings. I like how the photocell is beneath the grill. It makes cool sounds when shining a light in different parts of the topThis model is no longer available. See more creations @ chamberofsounds.com"

KORG microSAMPLER Full Details

"The latest addition to the Korg "micro" series serves up sampling with a powerful performance punch! The microSAMPLER delivers multi -mode sampling, resampling, Pattern Sequencing and over the top effects – and all under a fun-to-use intuitive interface. More than just a sampler, the microSAMPLER is a complete sound design studio for creating up-to-the minute loops and phrases.

Giant Sampling / microSIZE
The microSAMPLER hosts a solid complement of top-end sampling features to expand your creative potential. This full-fledged instrument offers sixteen-voice polyphony, reverse playback, editing operations such as Normalize and Truncate, and a Time Stretch feature that lets you change the tempo without affecting the pitch. Selectable sample rates of 48 kHz, 24 kHz, 12 kHz, and down to 6 kHz let you sample at rates beyond CD clarity or add in that Lo-Fi vintage vibe. Each bank contains 36 samples (a maximum of approximately 160 seconds of recording time for monaural samples at a 48 kHz sampling rate) and sixteen patterns of sequence data; the microSAMPLER lets you store eight such banks in internal memory. The Keyboard mode takes a single sample and assigns it chromatically across the keys for instant playability. With its recessed controls, bright LEDs and informative display, the microSAMPLER is fun to use and easy to operate – for beginners or seasoned pros.

Swiss Army Sampling
Too many instruments simply offer sampling as an added feature. The microSAMPLER is all about sampling, in every creative form. Five distinct sampling methods allow you to work the way you want, to get the results you need. The microSAMPLER offers traditional One-Shot and Loop sampling, plus a number of creative sampling modes – Loop, Key Gate and Auto-Next. When it comes to sampling, the microSAMPLER has it all.

* Loop sampling for recording grooves and phrases, drum loops, etc.
* One-Shot sampling for grabbing and triggering single events such as drums, etc.
* Gate sampling for playing a sound musically across the keyboard
* Auto-Next sampling for capturing phrases as multiple samples. For grabbing a groove as separate samples on individual keys, choose the AUTO NEXT mode and use Tap Tempo to match the BPM of the source material. The microSAMPLER will automatically divide the sample equally across multiple keys. Each key can be set to capture anything from a 64th note to a full two measures. This method lets you automatically perform the same type of sampling as KEY GATE.
* Key Gate sampling is best for grabbing multiple samples from the same source. With Key Gate, you can take multiple samples from the same source or phrase and assign them to different keys as you play them! The individual keys assign the sample and enable recording all at the same time. This intuitive method of sampling, editing, and mapping in a single step is fun, interactive and fast.

In addition, there's a resampling function that lets you play existing layered samples processed by an effect and played by the pattern sequencer – and capture it all as a new sample. You can even sample while playing, allowing the sampling process itself to become part of your expressive performance.

Sample anytime, anywhere – or anything!
The microSAMPLER can run on batteries, so you can perform on the go – or capture samples anywhere. Both line input and mic input are provided to allow a broad range of input sources including electronic musical instruments, CD, and voice. A gooseneck microphone is included so you can capture sounds with ease. The convenient caddies (located beside the mic jack) provide a cradle for your portable MP3/audio player when using it as a sample source. Truly, the world is yours to sample anytime and anyplace.

Pattern Possibilities
The pattern sequencer uses an overdub operating style that lets you continually layer your performances. You can switch between patterns during playback for seamless performances. Up to sixteen patterns (16,000 notes per pattern, or a maximum 64,000 notes) can be stored in each bank.

The KAOSS Effect(s)
Developed for Korg's KAOSS PAD series, the effect engine serves up a great selection of effects – so important when editing samples. The twenty-one effects include not only traditional delay and chorus, but also ring modulator and grain shifter, and even a Looper that's derived from the Loop Recording feature of the KAOSSILATOR Dynamic Phrase Synthesizer. The effects can be applied to any sound while resampling, allowing the effects to be used over and over again for more sonic expression.

Made to be Played
The microSAMPLER features our new Natural Touch micro keyboard, offering greatly enhanced playability and expressive power. By adjusting the proportion of the black keys and white keys, we've made chords easier to finger, and the touch has been improved so that rapid phrases can be played more easily – and with less fatigue. The box-shaped keys project a sense of quality, and also allow smoother glides and smears. The controllers you need for an exciting performance are laid out on the panel for intuitive operation. The status of the samples assigned to each key (and the item being edited) is indicated by the lit state of the LEDs running along the top of the keyboard, ensuring excellent visibility even on stage.

USB-eautiful
By using the free editor/librarian software for the microSAMPLER, you can manage a gigantic sample library that's all your own. You can back up sample and pattern sequence data to your computer via USB, or load samples and patterns back in just as easily. . Importing and exporting of WAV/AIFF data on your computer is also supported. The possibilities are endless…

KORG Wavedrum - Full Details

"It's back, and better than ever
The original Korg WAVEDRUM amazed the music world back in 1994. This legendary musical instrument was instantly famous for its innovative design, performance possibilities, and unique sounds. Well, hang on tight; the power-packed, affordable next-generation WAVEDRUM is here today and ready to make musical history. Again.

WAVEDRUM – Unprecedented sound, response, and performance
Sonically richer, programmable, and intensely sensitive, this 2nd generation WAVEDRUM is bursting with more than enough power and expression to create its own musical legend. The extreme dynamic range challenges the response of an acoustic instrument. WAVEDRUM responds instantly to any and all playing styles, from subtly-nuanced tapping and stroking to aggressive, rhythmic assaults. From traditional acoustic percussion instruments to unique sounds previously impossible to obtain, WAVEDRUM serves up an enticing treasure trove of sounds. With WAVEDRUM, you're always in control. Instruments that normally require special techniques to play, such as tabla, conga, etc., can be played with ease. Create your own unique performance style, filled with unparalleled levels of expression and originality. Built to travel, the compact and lightweight WAVEDRUM is ideal wherever your musical dreams take you – from casual playing through to a full-on recording session or a live concert performance.

Open the door to new musical journeys
The new Korg WAVEDRUM delivers inspiration and satisfaction to creative performers seeking new realms of expressiveness and sounds. Moving beyond traditional drum and percussion sounds, WAVEDRUM also provides totally new and unique sounds that are not available in the real world, and offers new ways of playing to achieve new levels of musical expression. Imagine changing the pitch randomly with each hit, or playing melodic phrases simply by choosing a musical scale and applying pressure to the head. Imagine no more, WAVEDRUM does it all. While opening new doors, WAVEDRUM is faithful to its roots. Traditional hand-drum techniques, such as adding pitch and tonal changes to a strike by pressing the head, have been previously unobtainable on an electronic instrument. No longer. WAVEDRUM can process and respond to these intimate performance gestures as no other instrument can. These same techniques provide a wealth of performance possibilities. For example, WAVEDRUM can produce sitar and tambura sounds at the same time. You can produce tambura sounds alone by hitting the head, adding the sitar sounds by applying pressure to the head before hitting it. Applying further pressure can change the pitch of the sitar within the selected scale. Only WAVEDRUM is able to offer such astounding versatility.

Multiple sensors deliver previously unimaginable expressiveness
Acoustic percussion instruments produce sound naturally, in direct response to a physical impact, be it gentle or abrupt. WAVEDRUM, although an electronic musical instrument, creates sound exactly the same way. The head and rim pickups are directly used as a sound source to be processed by the DSP (Digital Signal Processing) algorithms, and they also trigger the PCM sound engine. Together with the pressure sensor under the head, the WAVEDRUM responds to each and every subtle finger and hand motion (hitting, rubbing, scratching etc). as well as to the traditional hand drum techniques of open shot, slap shot, heel and toe, mute, etc. Of course, the WAVEDRUM responds not just to your hands, but to other playing materials as well, such as sticks, mallets, and brushes. The rim has two types of notches, small and large, and these can be used to elicit a tremolo-type effect by scratching with sticks, etc. Combining the rim sounds with the head sounds can create an even richer, more original performance.

DSP synthesis and PCM samples combine for endless sonic exploration
The WAVEDRUM contains 36 DSP algorithms to conjure an abundance of synthesis methods; analog, additive, non-linear, physical modeling, etc. Using these building blocks, you can create various instrument sounds, natural sounds, or purely synthetic sounds – in addition to WAVEDRUM’s own unique voice. The PCM sound engine – the other important part of WAVEDRUM's sound creation system – contains 200 sampled sounds; 100 for the head, and 100 for the rim, with velocity-switching capabilities. Certain algorithms allow you to combine a specific DSP method and a PCM instrument to the head, and assign a different combination to the rim. This method of controlling multiple sounds within a single program delivers a fantastic playing experience, rich in sound. In other algorithms, the velocity and tone of the strike are used to control the PCM sound, creating a responsive interaction that far surpasses any sample-playback device, one rivaling that of an acoustic instrument.

Planet-wide percussion
WAVEDRUM begins with a foundation of traditional pop/rock drum sounds such as snares, kick drums, tom toms, and more. WAVEDRUM also opens new vistas of sound, delivering a wealth of percussion sounds from many eras and cultures around the globe and throughout time. Ethnic percussion instruments, although seemingly simple in structure and performance, are capable of expressing the complex emotions of a culture. These include popular percussion instruments such as cajons, congas and tablas; metallic instruments such as cowbells, and triangles, along with rare ethnic percussion sounds. With WAVEDRUM, you have instant access to instruments such as the udo, a clay pod percussion instrument; the jegog, a bamboo gamelan marimba from the island of Bali; a talking drum from Africa, gongs, and many other instruments that often require special playing skills. Not strictly limited to percussion sounds, WAVEDRUM includes stringed instruments such as the sitar, koto, and berimbau as well. For every sound, WAVEDRUM adds its own new modes of expression, in addition to faithfully re-creating the original sounds.

Enjoy 100 preset programs; create 100 programs that are all your own
The 100 preset WAVEDRUM programs range from high-fidelity emulative drum and percussion sounds to a world of new and unique sounds. There are a range of parameters available for editing and tweaking to create new sounds to suit your own music or style of playing. In addition to making changes to pitch, decay time, loudness, reverb, delay, and curve (intensity) of the pressure sensor, you can completely alter the sound by, for example, changing the head material parameter from skin to metal. The combination of DSP and sampled sounds can also be changed to create totally new sounds from scratch. These new programs (up to 100) can be stored in the user area. The WAVEDRUM also has a Live Mode, which can store up to 12 favorite programs (from the preset or user programs) for selection instantaneously during performance.

Jam-along functions for added fun
Sure, you can enjoy the WAVEDRUM just by playing the sounds alone, but the dynamic and interactive WAVEDRUM adds some special features that provide jam-along abilities for fun or practice. Practice your paradiddles or simply wail away along to 100 loop phrases from various musical genres. Using the AUX input, you can mix in the signal from any audio source – CD, MP3 player, or even an additional WAVEDRUM. The options are endless.

Ready, Set, Go
Portable, compact, and lightweight, WAVEDRUM is ready for any musical outing. Hold WAVEDRUM on your lap, or play it standing like a hand drum. Place WAVEDRUM on an ordinary snare drum stand, or add WAVEDRUM to any electronic or acoustic drum kit. Use WAVEDRUM as part of a DJ set-up, or add a percussive element to your keyboard rig. With the optional high stand (Percussion Stand ST-WD), WAVEDRUM is the ideal accent for any vocalist or front person. Using the headphone output allows you to practice in private, anytime, anyplace – without fretting about the neighbors!

Vintage Analog BOSS DR-110 Modded

via this auction
"modified Boss DR-110 with MIDI sync, voice mutes, & trigger outputs. This is an incredibly fun drum machine, and one of the nicest looking modified DR-110 that I've ever seen. It's housed in a nicely built, stained oak box with a laminated face plate.

Features:
* MIDI input for syncronizing internal sequencer. There is an internal/external clock switch, so it can also operate on it's own.
* Each voice has it's own mute switch, so you can add / remove drums from the "mix". This mod alone makes this MUCH more flexible than a stock DR-110.
* Each voice also has a trigger output, so this DR-110 can be used to control other analog drums, trigger envelopes, etc. When you mute the drums, the trigger output still works - allowing more flexibility.
* There are also sync / start and stop jacks on the back,
* 9V battery for memory backup.
* works with 9-12v DC standard adaptater (not included)

Roland CR-8000 MODIFIED

via this auction
"The three knobs on the top panel are tonal modifications I have added. These include a tune offset control for the Cowbell, a Snare SNAPPY control, and a Clap DECAY. The Snare can be made into a TR 808 snare with this modification or closed off and removed of the noise source which isolates the tone component of the snare (very very cool for tonal melodic sequences when used in conjunction with the cowbell and the congas!). Finally, the Clap decay can turn the CR 8000 clap into everything from a hyper-compressed 909 sounding clap to a non-stop wall of Clap NOISE! This mod is excellent and the three controls add a whole new dimension to the CR 8000.

What's really cool about the CR is the fact that you can PROGRAM your own patterns and fills and use it's wonderful sequencer to regulate how often the fill occurs automatically. Because the unit has Din Sync, you can externally clock it to all modern day MIDI to Din Sync converters and have it running in time with your favorite software or MIDI hardware! Just like the TR 808 there is something really magical about the timing of the CR 8000 sequencer (I know I have an 808). And the fact that you can at any time trigger a fill to occur, or add SHUFFLE with the press of a button will open your rhythms up to a new dimension. Tonally, the CR 8000 sits between a TR 606 and a TR 808 and because of the MODS I've added, leans more on the 808 side."
