Admin: Synth Cats, Dogs, Birds and Lizards

Important news. I created new labels for Cats, Dogs, Birds and Lizards so they are more in line with the current Synth labels. Each will now be preceded by Synth, so Synth Cats, Synth Dogs, etc.. I'll leave the old labels for old posts for anyone linking to them and just add the new ones. I do have labels for cow and horse, and of course there's lemur, but Lenny seems to be dominating there, and cow and horse only have two posts each, so I'll leave them as is for now. Only on MATRIXSYNTH...

oberkonn vcf001

YouTube via bluelantern320. via this auction
"The signal is dry and demonstrates the Cutoff sweeps of the LPF/BPF/HPF.
An external Saw wave was used."

oberkonn vcf002

"This is a mixdown of the Pure Sine wave from the filter, an external Saw/Ramp wave, and an exernal midi to cv converter."

via this auction

"Up for sale is an industrial VCF I call an OBERKONN. This is a very distinct vcf in which I focused on Sine Oscillation as it's main character. There is a switch to kick the vcf into hard big self oscillation.
Every input on the VCF has a big range. In otherwords you don't simply turn the knobs all the way up otherwise you will have crazy big big sound! You can either dial in clean or head into hard fat saturation.
In normal mode the Filter will begin Self oscillation at Mid level Knob location. As you go up the Sine Wave pushes harder and harder. If you like that smashed Sine wave sound you then can flip the switch to go even further.

The panel is made of 0.125" 6061 Aluminum. The panel is in frac rack standard measurements. The knobs are soft touch grey and yellow in color.
The jacks are switchcraft high quality 3.5mm jacks.
The unit is kinda heavy because of the wood.

I WIRED THE CV KNOB REVERSE, I ALREADY SHRINK TUBED IT SO I LEFT IT ALONE, THAT IS THE ONLY FLAW. SO IN OTHER WORDS THE CV KNOB FOR THE FILTER IS REVERSED (COUNTER CLOCKWISE). NO BIG DEAL.

THE FILTER IS NOT SEM OR CEM BASED. IT IS BASED ON DISCREET PARTS AND THE GOOD OLD LM13700. I LIKE THIS BETTER!

It has (2) Red VCA's that I was selling as a PCB also. The internal power supply is 15v based.
The power adapter is included in this auction. The box is made of pine wood and is very well constructed.

The filter is a 12db Variable state filter that offers LP, BP, HP outputs.
These are the features of the FILTER side:
-offers LP/BP/HP outputs
-has a bi-polar FM input
-has a normal cv attenuator
-has Linear FM input
-has (2) audio inputs, there are (2) pre-amp trimmers inside the unit (i have them set to half).
-has a Rez CV input with attenuator

EACH VCA offers:
-has a main volume out knob
-has an attenuated CV input
-has a direct CV input
-has an initializer knob like Arp VCA's"

Digitana Micro Punk Robot

via Digitana
"Sneak peak of our first new product - An update on a classic, the Micro Punk Robot is a CV controlled stepped tone generator with a few twists, first up there are 2 range switches to expand on the pallette of this already versatile little monster, then we added CV inputs for integration with modular and CV equipment, the audio output also can be used as a CV out, the reset input can function as a kind of gate or even a rudimentary audio input, finally the power input can also offer some interesting options such as power starve and control from a gate/CV signal, because of all the extra stuff crammed in, the battery no longer fits inside the case so a pp3 lead is supplied. More details and audio clips will follow soon.

The price will be £65GBP plus shipping, so if you are interested act quickly, as usual there will only be limited quantities of these available at any time as they are hand made."

Waldorf MiniWorks 4-Pole

via this auction
"The MiniWorks is a stand-alone 4-pole resonant analog filter and modulation module. Use it to create those Daft-Punk filter sweeps on entire drum & rhythm loops! Run any sounds, synthesizers or loops through it and filter them with a truly analog-like VCF filter that is not only very flexible but MIDI controllable as well! There are many modulation sources that can be programmed between the extensive VCF, VCA, envelope and LFO sections and these settings can be stored in the (20) user memory patches. The MiniWorks can also be overloaded for a lo-fi crunchy sound too!

The VCA get be set to always open, triggered by a audio threshold or MIDI. All parameters are MIDI CC controlled and the LFO goes up to audio rate - which makes it possible to do some very complex FX.

One of the best 24dB LowPass Filters ever made. It is analog and warm. Originally developed for the synthfreaks, this device is famous for guitar. A touch wah,via Midi a Wah Wah,via LFO or external input a kind of Monsterstepfilter, an envelope follower, a Noise Gate or a compressor a panner,a pseudo Ringmodulator, a signal to Midi converter, a panner and so on and on. The 4Pole can be used and routed in an unbeliveable way. And this in an easy way. The main function is the Filter.and what a great Filter this is. 24dB LowPass with Resonance. Resonance can be so strong, that the Filter selfoscilates and produces a audible Sinewave."

Reason 4 Tutorial - Thor as a Programmable Filter (a slightly advanced tutorial) - Part 2 of 3

YouTube via SirSedricMusic. Part 1 here

"This is Part 2 of 3 of my series on Thor. This video covers using Thor's extensive routing matrix to make really cool, switchable and programmable effects. I've made a patch that exercises some of your options when routing Thor, but the real power is in your brain. Once you know how to do things like this, you can take the time to make your own patches from scratch and really flourish in Reason.

I'm using a Subtractor mono synth, only running 1 oscillator and 1 LFO, turned stereo as the basis for my sound and all other modulation is done through Thor's routing matrix and Combinator button assignments. I've tried to provide the most detailed information I could find in the Annotations, so make sure you have those turned on for the full effect.

My blog and music website can be found here -

http://www.SirSedricMusic.com

For those who bothered to read this much but not watch the whole video; part 3 will use Malstrom stereo synthesis and all 4 of Thor's inputs and outputs. Quadra-synth, tri-filter, trippy envelope goodness. Thanks for watching!"

Jennifer's Body and the Buchla 200e

via Bryan C on the 200e list:

"I do quite a bit of work for the composer and wanted to mention that there is a lot of drone and texture sound design for the score using my 200e with a moog 104SD delay. A lot of it was manipulated with various plug ins in protools but you can definitely hear the textures of the 259e osc. The Buchla is sprinkled throughout but you can really hear it in the first minute and a half opening of the film.

Anyway, people always want to hear examples of the 200e so, here you go.
Zombies, Megan Fox, and 200e on the big screen. What else would you want?

Update via Bryan regarding any Buchla 200e in the trailer: "None in the trailer, just the score of the movie. You can hear 200e used for pads / drones sprinkled throughout but I recall a good amount in the intro."

D16 Group Shioitor

"Shioitord is a revolution in sound within the plugin market. Its authentic analogue character and extensive software features will fulfil the needs of the most demanding musicians and sound designers who use synthesisers in their work.

Since it uses a layered architecture, Shioitor has endless sound shaping possibilities. Each layer can be freely assigned to any midi channel or keyboard zone. Its audio output can be routed to any of the available audio outputs. Layers can either be used to create a single massive sound (where all layers respond to a single midi channel and a single keyboard zone) or to create many different timbres (where each layer plays a sound on a different midi channel). Using Shioitor to play a different sound on each midi channel allows Shioitor to work very efficiently as it saves memory and CPU compared to loading in multiple instances of the plugin for each sound.

Shioitor can work as either a monophonic synthesiser or a polyphonic synthesiser, where each layer can play up to 16 voices of polyphony (dependent on CPU of host computer). These settings are independent for each layer. Also, each layer can have its own independently controlled arpeggiator. In both play modes (mono/poly), it is possible to turn on a Unison mode with tweakable parameters for spread, filter cut-off frequency, panorama and tune. Unison mode will use up polyphony. However, it allows the creating of bigger more defined sounds.

Shioitor also has a built in chorus effect. This can be used instead of Unison mode to fatten a sound or it can be used with Unison mode enabled to create much bigger richer sounds. The chorus effect was modelled on classic analogue units, the same type found on old synthesisers. The chorus setting have been reduced to a few parameters with discrete values to make it easier and faster to use.

Shioitor is also equipped with an excellent Preset Manager tool which organises presets into groups. It also has a Timbre Manager which allows searching for layers and arpeggiator sequences within presets. Shioitor comes with a huge library of presets created by famous artists. This allows users to get up and running quickly. However, for those who love to experiment and create their own sounds, Shioitor will keep them busy for many hours as they become lost in its incredible array of sonic possibilities!

... Your imagination is the only limit."
