Abstract Data Hex Series Now Available

via Abstract Data

"I am very pleased to announce that the Hex Series of Analog Synthesizers and Effects is now available for sale.

These original designs will provide a perfect analog companion to your current studio or live rig and will serve as the basis for your new analog studio.

This series of instruments has been designed to pack a powerful, flexible range of sounds into a compact unit that is perfect for musicians, producers, programmers, sound designers and live performers - from all musical genres.

Each unit is built, assembled and tested by hand - ensuring a unique, high quality analog instrument."

"Synthex gives you instant access to full-force, knob-turning analog power.

Whether you're a musician, producer, sound designer, DJ or live performer - all the best of analog fatness and warmth can now be yours.

At the heart of Synthex is a true Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) that outputs Square and Triangle Waveforms - but that really is just the start.

Use the two external audio inputs to create massive Hard Sync and FM effects, control the Mix and Levels with dedicated cross-faders, reconfigure the internal signal path with the flick of a switch and lose yourself in a world of pure analog bliss.

Bored of lame, thin sounding soft synths? Tired of using your mouse to turn knobs? Need a sound that is truly your own? Synthex is your synth."

"Morphex is an extremely versatile effect unit unlike any you have heard before. This crazy device takes any two 'line level' sounds and allows you to morph between them in ways that are both beautiful and bizarre.

Transform, distort, mangle and manipulate in true analog style, turning percussion loops into monstrous walls of sound, transforming tame soft synths into lush, evolving soundscapes and warping boring vocals into breeds of alien disruptors.

Blend, bend and beyond with this wild, self-oscillating, feedback-inducing, knob twiddling little green monster.

Thought you couldn't afford a genuine analog instrument? Tired of temperamental old gear full of unobtainable parts being sold at inflated prices? Here's the solution - get some Morphex in your mix!"

"Graphex is an absolutely vital effect unit that can be as simple or as complex as you need. If you have ever wanted to do anything more with your music than just press play - then this device is for you.

This rhythmic chopping and gating effect lets you create and manipulate an infinte number of 'trance-gate' patterns, 303-style accents, drum loop edits and stutter effects - whether you're in the studio or playing live.

Graphex takes any line level audio signal and converts the dynamic information into a rhythmic pattern. From there you can mix, chop and manipulate that pattern beyond recognition - and all in real-time.

Even the most experienced sample manipulators will benefit from the hands-on, real-time benefits that this unit will provide. Stop spending your studio time being a computer programmer - and get back to making music."

You can find additional info on each at Abstract Data. Also see Abstract Data on Ebay.

The only external audio sources used in this clip are a 100Hz Sine wave used as one input to Synthex and one input to Morphex and the percussion track you can hear in the background - which was also used as the rhythmic trigger input for Graphex to generate the chopping/gating effect. Synthex is fed into Morphex which is fed into Graphex - no effects or processing. Enjoy - and feel free to PM me for more info! http://www.abstractdata.biz/"

Introducing Modulor for AudioCubes

via the Percussa blog
"Meet Modulor for AudioCubes, a new software application for the AudioCubes hardware platform.

We are very excited to release this – it’s the result of one year of very hard development work, in which we focused on implementing topology detection in the AudioCubes firmware.

It’s now possible for AudioCubes to detect each other in a network, and forward data to each other within the network. This means that AudioCubes can be configured or colours can be set through other AudioCubes, and that you only have to have one AudioCube connected to talk to the rest.

Modulor is the first application to take advantage of this exciting upgrade. It’s an application developed specifically for people who like to create their musical ideas using building blocks (e.g. loops of MIDI data).

The software lets you record loops into cubes using your favourite MIDI controller, and then combine those loops simply by putting cubes together. Colour coding can be used, for example to remember which loop is where or what key the loop is in.

Besides recording and playing back loops, it’s also possible to process MIDI data, from loops or from live input, for example, using arpeggiators, chord generators, transposition, echos, … each cube can have one MIDI effect, and by forming networks of cubes you can create processing chains for MIDI data.

The application is a VST instrument host, so you can run it all by itself, and load your favourite software instruments. The resulting MIDI can be recorded to disk as a MIDI file with multiple tracks, one for each software instrument, which lets you bring your project into your favourite DAW software.

The application was in development for over a year, and we’ve decided to release it as a free download. More details can be read at http://www.percussa.com/uses/composition/ and http://www.percussa.com/applications/modulor/"

CRUMAR BIT-99 SYNTHESIZER SN 00811

Googlish translation from German:

"Aka Crumar BIT ONE BIT 99/01 or fall into this category.

Crumar Bit-99 Synthesizer

Perhaps brightens the mind of some ne "Oh, do not Crumar !!!"- thinkers on something, when the name Mario Maggi. All well known as a highly respected "father" of the Elka Synthex has Maggi also Crumar BIT-designed series. So it's no wonder if some ingenious features such as the (random) Stereo mode can be found in the BITs to. Other things - such as for example the high standard of customer Synthex hardware - it looks around the BITs, however vainly, too, is correct.

Crumar BIT aka ...
wanted the MIDI era begin in a new guise. Although the Crumar Spirit had track record dating from 1983 has a MIDI-bore labels including, but even for MIDI, it has not served there. Thus, there is no Crumar synth, the (factory-equipped) via said interface. With the introduction of the first MIDI keyboard Crumar changed his (official) name in BIT (probably to get away to the professional musicians from the camp Orgel-/Multikeyboard-Image). Hence ONE BIT, BIT 01 BIT 99; Sometimes these instruments may also carry other designations such as "Unique", or LEM, but everything "would be clear and simple," would not be so Italian. The unique instruments were sold under the said name in the U.S. ... e.g. Unique DBE (E for expander) = BIT 01 And after Crumar in the late 80s, first bought by LEM (and later by the same alias General Music has taken over GEM), produced one still on for some months, the BIT instruments under LEM name. Thus, there are so many name-names for one and the same instruments. Has begun the story with the ...

ONE BIT
The first device in the series corresponds in principle in terms of sound architecture all other BIT variations. In a row - alongside key MIDI enhancements and a few other details - sound not changed much. ONE of the BIT is a 6-voice analog synthesizer based on DCO. In 1984, placed on the market instrument is voice 2 DCOs per track record, 2 LFO, 1 VCF, 1 VCA and 2 ENVS. Thus, the BIT ONE (and, since as I said hardly any structural changes, including the entire family BIT) in about a Juno-60/-106 Roland, Roland JX-8P, Matrix-6, Siel Opera-6 / kiwi Korg DW-6000/-8000 equivalent. Of course, only "roughly". Of the extensive modulation possibilities for the Oberheim Matrix starting, we just want to venture no comparison, and the 16 wave forms of a DW-8000 can not be here "to be thrown into one package." But enforcing it is true about the direction, which is now in that environment, Crumar BIT alias in the mid-80s to be out in the market against similar "hybrid" or "late-analog" synthesizers had.

With the ONE BIT was originally a race win. The coward was called "MIDI" and was the first BIT to a severe test. The instrument worked ausschließich the Omni-on mode (there are note-to receive all incoming data - MIDI channels, there was, as far as my memory is still not ...) and comprehensive MIDI-hangers and other childhood diseases were not uncommon. Just one year later - 1985 - came ...

BIT 99
on the market. The instrument had better MIDI capabilities (and in general: more reliable MIDI), provided a sound chain function and other small changes. TWO ONE BIT of good things, however, were left out: The placed on the front panel fader to the detuning (de-tuning) of DCO 2 and the noise had the fader knob to set the soft-velocity sensitivity."

Wersi Baß Synthesizer, Bass Synth, analog

It is equipped with a 36er keyboard and works with an oscillator that vibrates at a frequency of 2 MHz. Tell a top octave synthesizer is heruntergeteilt while the audio voltage. At waveforms can be selected individually or simultaneously: Sine octaves in the 1 ', 2', 4 ', 8' and 16 ', saw 8' and 16 'square and 8'. A so-called Wah-wah filter can be manually operated, both are controlled by a single LFO as well as automatically with triangular wave. For the volume control, a attack / release envelope is available.

Furthermore, the effects, vibrato, glide, and a switchable bass guitar preset available, and is really good. That is what distinguishes the synth to imitate a bass guitar and he does great."

Full details and download at The Csound Blog
Excerpt:
"SampleEngine is the heart of this piece. It works by triggering discreet notes from within the loop, with the loop offset being determined by input it receives via p-field 7. The offset unit is in beats. Let’s say the loop is 16 beats long. A passed value of 0 plays the first quarter note. A value of 1 plays the second quarter note of the loop, etc.

This instrument is designed to be played by other instruments, rather than being triggered directly by a score i-event"

Moog muSonics Sonic V Analog Synthesizer serial#74

via this auction

"This auction is for a Moog muSonics Sonic V. It has 2 osc's (saw, tri, square/pulse) 2 lfo's (saw, ramp, tri square) a ring modulator, a noise generator (white or pink), an external input, 2 outputs and 2 built in speakers. The speakers can be bypassed by using the second output. It is monophonic (plays one note at a time) and/or duophonic (plays two notes at a time). It even has a 'scale' knob on the front panel so it can play microtones I suggest having a tech range/scale this synth as it is, at all ranges, a little out of tune (listen to the audio). It wasn't an issue for me but it might be for you.

The Sonic V has a 24db diode filter which is very expressive. It has that Moog sound when you want it, but you can also have it sound quite different. It can sound more gritty or aggressive then other synths containing the traditional Moog 24db transistor ladder filter thanks to the diode filter design and also to the addition of the ring modulator. It has a 4 octave keybed that is a pleasure to play on. The keys play like new and the synth is quite stable. This synth is in perfect shape inside, and fair/decent shape outside. Please check out the pictures and videos to see the condition of the wood/metal and notice that it is missing a few plastic slider caps/knobs. The most noticeable marks are a slight dent in the metal faceplate top center and the wood at the right front corner is damaged/chipped in two places... I've done some research over the the past few months and I believe this synth was built in 1971 and that less then a few dozen were ever made. I would give the exterior a 7 out of 10. and the inside a 10 out of 10. (These are my opinions!) The instruments functions all work 100% however there is a low level high pitched whine in the output. Whenever I use this synth I just use a noise gate. I've had lots of fun owning this synth and wish that its next owner enjoys it as much as I have. Please see the pictures and enjoy the videos." Technosaurus Modular tribute 2

YouTube via ISOTROPOSPHERE. follow-up to this post.
"This video is a slide show of sorts showing the steps taken in the construction of my DIY modular synthesizer cabinet. The modular features the small wonders series of synthesizers by the Swiss Company Technosaurus. The Technosaurus Microcon, Microcon II, and the Effexon. My modular cabinet features the Doepfer DIY kit #1 for the power supply and the distribution boards to the modules. The Doepfer R2M as my secondary midi to cv converter next to the Microcon II. Modules so far are only a switched multiple and the A-119 External Input.

The paint scheme I created was based on the Technosaurus Panel Design and colors and is a tribute of sorts to the Swiss manufacturer. The paint job of the cabinet and the blank panels took two weeks and even though it is not pictured in the video the bottom face was painted as well before the feet were attached. Also not pictured are the additional standoffs on the inside for mounting a thrid distribution board if needed. Power is supplied to the rear by a beautiful Neutric 90 degree xlr fitting.

All parts were sourced from here in the USA, excluding the DIY kit #1 from Doepfer which came from Germany
but was purched from Shawn Cleary at Analogue Haven. I spent close to $275 constructing all of this, not including any modules, the Technosaurus pieces, or the R2M. Thats for every nut, bolt, screw, paint, rails, DIY kit, XLR fittings
less my time and effort. If you would like a copy of my construction drawings, or any info on where I got something,
please send me a message and I will try to help you out.

This is a modular synthesizer (of sorts) and you can find out more about modulars via the wonderful source called 'The Web'."
