Mystery Synth

This one in via Neno. Disclaimer: before anyone starts thinking MATRIXSYNTH is their personal posting place for any question they might have, this one is going up for one reason alone. This is about a synth I can't quite place and it needs to be in the archives. Joel went through the custom and DIY labels and came up dry after about 20 minutes of searching. I took a quick peak and guessed some of the obvious like Open Labs's gear, but it wasn't them. The following is a brief description. If you have any idea, please comment.

Note this is actually via Neno's friend Volken on the musicplayer forum:

"I’m talking about custom crafted (88 keys) master keyboard with computer keyboard and trackball physically built into this shape. They had both Mac or PC onboard (to best of my recollection) as customer’s choice of preferred platform. I’m certain they have some aero/industrial background because implementation was rather impressive considering build quality and materials used. Since yesterday, wanted to check their present offer and alas... without a trace"

and via Neno: "Manufacturer with Aircraft expertise who was making 88 note master keyboard that serve both as DAW with - customer choice - either Mac or PC inside. Unique paint looks and very lab grade materials."

Update: Mystery Synth Solved! Tracked down by Volken and Neno. The synth is the Infinity Music Systems X1 Workstation.

MIDI video player - Max for Live

YouTube via zealtv
"Early in development MIDI triggered video player built in Max for Live. Notes C1 up trigger video clips from any specified folder. in this video it's receiving the midi out coming from an autonomous sequencer (improbeat) which is also controlling the audio.

just the very start. currently working on multiple layers, rotation, zoom and colour controls - all MIDI controllable! hit me up if you'd like to play with the source.

this is destined to be used in conjunction with my Guitar Hero to MIDI patch for instant axe controlled audio/visual fun.

Commercial sessions 3 Matti Bye recording the Korg Mono Poly bass.mp4

YouTube via RothHandle
"Today was the third day working on music for a commercial. We have so far recorded four different suggestions as well as some old pieces and they seem to have fallen in love with a track from the elephant and castle album. But there were some things that needed to be adressed so we started working on a new version today.

This film shows Matti recording the bass using the Korg Mono Poly. This was the first time we have ever recorded with it. Usually we use the Mini Moog or the Taurus pedals but we wanted something slightly different.

This film was shot at Roth Händle studios in Stockholm using a cell phone. This is where I spend my days recording and producing bands, artists and music. If you are curious to find out more about the studio please visit www.roth-handle.nu"

ANALOG SYNTH MIDI CONVERTER

via these auctions
"This was built a few days ago with a Pro CNC PCB that I had ordered. This is a MIDI to Control Voltage converter to connect a MIDI keyboard or your Computer Sequencer to your Analog gear that have CV inputs based on 1v / Octave Standard.

-This has an onboard Portamento/Glide for even cooler note changes. It can do exaggerated glide when the knob is turned all the way. All Pitch CV outputs are linked to the Portamento.

These are the Outputs on the Left: (3) Pitch Outputs

Theses are the outputs on the Right: (3) GATE (5v) outs.

The knob is for Portamento.

A 12v AC power adapter is included.

-This has 3.5mm jacks. You can use those Headphone adapters to turn the end of a 3.5mm cable into 1/4" plug. That's how I do it and it works.

-This is calibrated for over 6 octaves of notes. This only does Note on/off and Pitch. Very simple yet very accurate. By default it is set to Midi Channel #1, it is possible to change the Midi channel by inserting a DIP Switch, i do not supply that, but the upgrade is very easy (no soldering).

Moog equipment owners be aware that you need to make an S-Trigger Cable for the gate on this to work for you. Here's a link for such a circuit

I can confirm this will work on all MFOS stuff, Roland SH101, BLACET, EURORACK stuff, and most Modern DIY stuff. Just check to see if you use the 1v/oct standard and this will work.
This will not work on korg MS series because that is based on 1v/Hz standard."

Michelle Moog-Koussa and the Moog Voyager

Image of Michelle Moog-Koussa of the Bob Moog Foundation with her father's creation, the Moog Voyager. I asked Michelle if I could put this image up and she gave me the OK. The image means something special to Michelle, and it also represents something extremely important to the synth community. When I asked Michelle if I could put this up she replied, "Sure. Can I just say how amazing it is for me to sit behind that synth -- a synth that represents the culmination of a 50 year career, and have it mean something? Wow. This job keeps me humble."

Michelle's response keeps me humble. The image not only represents the legacy of Bob Moog carried through his instruments, but also through Michelle and the Bob Moog Foundation. The Voyager and Moog Music will continue the legacy of Bob Moog's instruments, while the Bob Moog Foundation will continue his spirit, history and influence in people's lives. This is extremely important. The foundation not only keeps the memory of Bob Moog alive, it has a positive impact for the community by educating and inspiring people of all ages into our world of synths. Without Michelle the foundation would not exist. We would have the instruments but not the museum, the archives and the outreach programs. Think about that for a bit.

Monorocket: Double Lexington

"Here's a photo of a custom Monorocket case, a Double Lexington with purple tolex.
This case was made to house a customer's ever-growing Eurorack rig. He's now able to consolidate his multiple types of tabletop enclosures into this larger one. Its a big case and there are back braces (not shown) to hold the two parts together.

Monorocket is in the process of catching up with custom case orders and then they will put attention back on building cases for our stock. LINK: www.analoguehaven.com/monorocket/"

maxforlive: monome integration

YouTube via stretta
"more cool stuff at http://stretta.com It is one thing to adapt max patches for maxforlive but it is another thing entirely to construct them so they can handle multiple instances without stepping all over each other by accessing the same data. Then there is the issue of telling monomeserial which instance has control of the monome hardware.

I wanted to make it elegant to use. For example, if you click on a track in live that has a monome application running, that monome application is in focus on the hardware. It is this level of integration that makes maxforlive so appealing. So, now you can run as many obos, polygomes, stepfilters, or automatorgators as you like, and the monome switches between them effortlessly. Once you have everything set up, you can save your project for later recall."

Sonic Reality Studios

click here for a video walkthrough of the studio on Keyboard Magazine online. Check out the custom Oberheim SEM racks.

In the third video they talk about the Lowrey organ used in The' Who's Baba O'riley. They mention that some thought the gated sequence effect in the track was done with a synth but was actually all the Lowrey organ, specifically the Marimba effect. Do not confuse this with The Who's Won't Get Fooled Again below which was processed by the EMS VC3S.
