Ableton Live/Novation Launchpad - Progtronica weekly Dj Performance series Part 2 from Nigel Sifantus on Vimeo.

"Performed and recorded on February 4th 2010, this is the second installment of Progtronica's weekly DJ performance series. This week I have mixed the tunes "Drum n bass for a Rainy day", "Lets Face the music", "Rolling with Strings" "Progtronica 2" and part of "Progtronica 1". To download audio of the full set FOR FREE click here. All music created by NIgel Sifantus, edited in Ableton Live 8, and mapped out on the Novation Launchpad dedicated Ableton controller. I have also incorporated Novation's ZeRO SL Mk II for further controlling capabilities. Filmed with only a Flip Video HD camera. Visit nigelsifantus.com for more details on Progtronica music."

Etherwave Plus Controls Voyager with Gate and Pitch voltage

YouTube via plague1715
"This is not a musical statement, it is just a short demonstration of a Moog Etherwave Plus kit theremin sending gate and pitch voltage to a Moog Voyager Anniversary Edition. You are only hearing audio from the Voyager. The Voyager has a sample and hold modulating the filter, and is sent into a Moog MF-104z analog delay."

"This is a first draft as I figure out a decent way to make videos without spending a bunch of money. My editor can't seem to offset the audio track separately from the video, so the video lags the audio. It's annoying, so next time I won't use a webcam.

The next (and final) version of the module adds a couple new features and switches."

This is my second compilation on my new Blofeld synthesizer (Waldorf). All sounds on this video are Blofeld produced except for claps+hats. I'm still learning it's very basics...

The video is a short excerpt from "Koyaanisqatsi", a magnificent movie by Godfrey Reggio (1982). The original music was written by none the less than Phillip Glass.

Thanks for listening - if you like this please subscribe, I hope to upload more in the coming future."

"Accessories: Comes with an internal 40 MB? drive full of samples and around 60 floppy disks of samples (Stereo Grand Piano to Moog Basses to Saxophones, Vibraphone, Stereo Strings, French Horns, Percussion, Marimbas, etc). All floppies were tested two weeks ago and I was able to load up all the samples. There were no bad disks. However, disks can go bad so these are included with no guarantees."

ARP Odyssey whiteface with CV/GATE/Filter Input mods

via this auction
"Features: When I bought this synth it had CV/GATE/TRIG input/output jacks previously installed by a company called MRE. (Not sure who this company is or was but what I do know is this is one of the few CV/GATE kits that allows the Odyssey to be triggered from a Roland MC-4 or other CV/GATE synth without hooking up a separate trigger cable. (Other CV/GATE kits required the trigger to be connected for some reason.) I wanted even more functionality, so a couple of years ago I shipped it to CMS (Cirrocco Modular Systems) and he performed the following service/mods: 1) cleaned all sliders and inside of synth 2) added a switch for the LFO to allow for free-running or trigger via keypress or trigger input (an absolutely essential mod) 3) switched low output/high output jacks so high output uses 1/4" jack and not the RCA jack 4) Added a 1/4" VCF input jack (I believe he also added an audio input through the VCF but I can't recall as I didn't have it labeled). 5) Upgraded and replaced all caps in the power supply. 6) Repaired a faulty voice 7) Tuned up the synth. I recently took it to my tech because the keyboard was only triggering properly from CV/GATE and was only playing one note up and down the keyboard if played manually. He had it fully tuned and replaced a diode in the keyboard circuit which fixed the keyboard issue. The keyboard is now scaling perfectly and the second voice scales properly too."

The HUE 008 : spectral apc modulation via

via Coloring Pad
"The HUE 008 consists of 2 APC's ((atari punk consoles. really four 555's)) built from scratch from the circuit board (set 1: yellow and green, set two: red and purple), with two knobs to cross modulate between them (orange and blue). Each APC is routed (respectively) left and right, for stereo goodness. In addition, the HUE 008 has a tint knob & switch (stereo ring modulator), a light knob and switch (one solo light sensor), a spectrum knob and switch (three light sensors housed inside the pulsing and spectrum cycling center light, which is operated by the lower center pushbutton), and a shadow knob and button (battery sag)... I attempted to design a super dynamic, fat APC, with the APC's being the signal for ring modulation, to boot. I hope somehow it makes somebody's top ten list of things that make ununderstandable noise somewhere. I'd be honored and flattered. Videos will follow." Note the audio player further below features music from Coloring Pad for context. It does not feature the HUE 008 though as it was literally completed yesterday.

Update: video of the HUE 008 posted here.

Instead of mapping touch positions (X and Y coordinates) directly to synthesis parameters, relationships such as angle, distance, and velocity compared to other points are used.

'MDrumSynth' pulls a variety of data from the multi-point interactions. Mapped parameters include: number of active points, points created per second, points held per second, points' distance and angle to previous, and average X and Y position of all points. This creates a very expressive percussion instrument - even without pressure sensitivity."

Synapse EKS-9 RELEASED

"Synapse Audio introduces a new software synth to its product line. The EKS-9 is a unique VST/AU plugin, dedicated to creating powerful electronic bass drum sounds, reminiscent of vintage hardware. Its virtual analog engine is not only capable of authentic recreations of the sounds from such machines, but can synthesize new kick sounds with lots of punch too! For this reason, it should not miss in any electronic music producer's plugin arsenal.

The EKS-9 is available for Windows and Mac OS X. A free demo version can be downloaded from our Download page. It is fully functional, except that patches cannot be recalled and that periodic white noise is introduced every minute. The full version can be purchased from our shop page.

System requirements:

# Windows: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7
# Mac OS X: OS X 10.4 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard), 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
# A host software which supports VST or AudioUnits

The OS X version is a universal binary and thus functions with Intel-based Macs as well as with older PPC-based machines.

As an introductory promotional offer, the EKS-9 can be purchased from our shop page for only $39 during the first month; regular price is $49."

A smooth theme

YouTube via attorks
"Kind of inspired by DoctorVague and Ian Boddy (when in Red Shift), I am experimenting with Ableton Live to see if it can be a help in analog sequencing. And tonight this lovely sequence came up so I thought, lets make a video. I have 2 MIDI tracks and 1 track with a drum loop. One MIDI track controls the self-built Modular and the 2nd MIDI track the Creamware MiniMax ASB. I couldn't connect the DotCom because I have only 1 MIDI/CV converter. Both MIDI tracks have several clips with looping 8 step sequence in different keys. But I have not found out how to change the clip of the 2 MIDI track at the same time and at the right bar so I click the clip on each track which causes the odd discrepancy in clips/keys and changing too soon; sorry for that. The melody is performed on the Roland XP-80 with a Mellotron voice. The Waldorf is doing what a Waldorf is good at; making these Waldorf sounds. The soloing is done on the Clavia Nord Lead 1 with an organ-type voice."

Alwin Nikolais and the First Moog Modular

via vgermuse:
"2010 is the centennial celebration of the birth of choreographer, composer and visionary, Alwin Nikolais. See this New York Times article for more info on that.

Nikolais purchased the first Moog modular synth according to the book Analog Days by Trevor Pinch and Frank Trocco [link to book on Amazon]. In that book they quote Bob Moog saying, 'Alwin Nikolais, the choreographer who does his own scores…shows up (at AES in 1964) and then I heard the words, that I later realized were the magic words: ‘I’ll take one of this, two of this, and that one…’ We took two or three orders at that show.' Nikoloais, with the aid of a Guggenheim Fellowsip, purchased what would become the first ever commercially made Moog synthesizer.

Nikolais’ electronic music is quite amazing for, as I understand it, a sort of home grown, garage band studio of the mid 1960’s onward.

You can also see and hear Nikolais’ work at the Nikolais Louis Foundation for Dance.

Best,

If everything goes as planned, we will be able to show off a glimp of the first new Laccence upgraded ventury range modules in a month or two (there already was an announcement for a new range of modules a long time ago,but some things where completely re-designed which explains the long delay).
[Regarding the sounds:] There is an delay extensively used (abused) in track 4 note and some reverb on other tracks.

Best Regards,

via the "All Things Moog" 2/5 newsletter:

"Taurus 3 Bass Pedals have begun making their way to musicians worldwide. Things will never be the same.

Taurus 3 customers: the fact that we are shipping does not necessarily mean that we are currently shipping YOUR order. We have a 4-5 month backlog and each one is hand-built here in the factory. It will take some time to build all 1,000 pieces. Please be patient with us. For the most part, orders will be shipped on a first come, first served basis.

We will notify you in advance of shipping your unit if you purchased your Taurus directly from Moog. At that time, we will advise the total to be charged to your credit card. If for some reason, you cannot accept the unit at this time, please understand that with the demand we have for these units, we will not be able to hold any. A delay will cause your unit to be rescheduled towards the end of the build. So be prepared, your unit will be coming soon.

If you purchased your Taurus from one of our Authorized Dealers, we will notify them prior to shipping their order. Please contact your dealer for further information.

Thank you for your patience.
