Spiral Galaxy - Abre Ojos

"The Spiral Galaxy project has been constructed using the images of Marek Dobiecki artist, teacher and astronomer. Dobiecki has built himself an observatory in his backyard in the Dandenong ranges where he tracks the night sky with his computer controlled f4.5 x 30cm Newtonian Telescope capturing galaxies, nebulae and star fields. The photographs are wonderfully fragile, textured, grayscale images of up to 2 hours exposure time revealing things we can barely see with the naked eye.

These photos were built into a series of audio reactive Quartz Composer animations and the sounds are inspired from space recordings and low frequency atmospheric sounds of the earth built on a eurorack modular synthesizer. The tracks are all recorded in one pass with no overdubs for sound or vision. The project is now completed and is sealed with the DVD release of Spiral Galaxy. The DVD has 3 tracks giving just over 66 minutes of sound and vision. The three tracks are:

* NGC1313 Spiral Galaxy in Reticulum
* NGC2835 Spiral Galaxy in Hydra
* NGC1313 Live at Electundra Festival 2009

Hydra and Reticulum are new videos while the live video was recorded back in November of last year at the Electundra Festival at Loop Bar. The DVD gives you all three tracks in full screen 16:9 DVD quality with full uncompressed audio to let the entire frequency range loose. As usual if you pop the DVD in your computer you’ll find 320khz MP3 versions of all the tracks for your fav audio device.

The DVD is a hand numbered limited edition of 50.

Cost is $15USD including postage to anywhere in the world via Paypal. For the first 20 orders I’m also including some limited edition postcards of the Geometers print series.

Dr. Who Theme Goes Tesla

Tesla Coils - Arc Attack - Doctor Who Theme Song - Makers Faire 2010 - San Mateo - No. 1

YouTube via wshsbro — May 23, 2010 — "ArcAttack employs a unique DJ set up of their own creation to generate an 'electrifying' audio visual performance. The HVDJ pumps music through a PA system while two specially designed DRSSTC's (Dual-Resonant Solid State Tesla Coils) act as separate synchronized instruments. These high tech machines produce an electrical arc similar to a continuous lightning bolt and put out a crisply distorted square wave sound reminiscent of the early days of synthesizers. i filmed this video @ makers faire san mateo expo center.... web site: http://www.arcattack.com"

Elmo Phone

YouTube via RothMobot — May 28, 2010 —

"Though this nice, hand held device uses a crystal for it's clock , and therefore shouldn't be hackable with out a custom built precision timer sub-circuit, it did, however, clock down nicely when two pins on its central IC chip were connected. The toy also has a USB port and can download a "name" from an online list. In this video it's set to 'Marco.'"

Sesame Yellow

"RothMobot — May 28, 2010 —

"This device was hacked by our good friend, Creme DeMentia. It is full of glitches, clock bends, and loops."

Phonics Bot
RothMobot — May 28, 2010 —

"This toy has a classic clock bend that glitches nicely on the low end. By jamming a screwdriver into the toy's mechanism you can cause the device to loop nicely."

"Alvaro Lopez is an amazing drummer so I asked if he would be kind enough to talk to us about drum sequencing from a drummers perspective. He is working in Logic with Ultrabeat but the information can be applied to programming drums in any DAW or hardware drum machine.

I want your input:

Meet The Soundlab

The MFOS Soundlab on The B-Roll

"I love my soundlab. I have a special place in my heart for this guy because I built it myself and it was my first real electronics project. I built it into a stenographers case that I picked up from the flea market. I purposely left all of the controls unlabeled. This was the gateway drug to the modular."

You'll find more pics and audio on The B-Roll.

Vintage 80's Philips PMC-100 synthesizer

via this auction
"the keyboard has a built in cassette player/recorder to record your compositions as well as live sounds from the microphone input, it also has a built in sequencer to record notes (although I've never tried using it).
you can hook up this synth to your mixer using it's stereo output.
although the Pmc-100 is very compact and has some interesting features for the time, this 'soft touch' keyboard is far from being a professional gear. it's 100 preset sounds and 15 accompaniments reminds of the 80's portable Casio keyboard, BUT this odd and great looking instrument will be a unique addition to any live setup or a vintage synthesizer collection.it could also be interesting option for circuit bending or for a lo-fi electronics/experimental musician."

Thingamagoop 2 Revision 1

via Bleep Labs

"We’ve made a few changes to the Thingamagoop 2 that makes the kit even easier to put together!
Here are the major differences:

- The three jacks on the side have been removed and an 1/8″ CV jack has been added to the top.
- CV jack is now output only. It no longer requires an adapter but there is no input CV. You can still mod it to have an input if you’re so inclined.
- The programmer jack has been dropped. There were some communication issues with different types of Arduino programmers. You can still interface the Thingamagoop 2 with an Arduino board by soldering four wires to the pcb.
- 9V jack has been dropped and replaced with a $2 dongle that attaches to the 9v battery snap."

Mattson Mini Modular VC-LFO with SKEW synthesizer FRAC

"MrRitchieDrums — May 28, 2010 — Mattson Mini Modular. Two independent LFOs in one module with seperate CV controls.
Each LFO contains two simultaneously available square and triangle waveform outputs. Each output can be skewed to waveform extremes. i.e. square can be skewed from narrow-positive pulse widths through square to narrow-negative pulse widths. This is a short demo to show the SKEW......"

dsi mopho demo #6 & elektron machinedrum, the funky chiken and the seagull high in the sky

YouTube via jakomaron — May 28, 2010 — "Mopho does the funky chiken and the seagull high in the sky.

The Elektron Machinedrum drives the Mopho (I use a mid machine with different pgm change on each note) and it play the drums too (TR606 samples). There's no computer in the party.

The big muff is on the mopho and the machinedrum.

I swap the preset bank on the mopho from time to time .

I use some echoes of the boss RE-20 (space echo). And I use some reverb echoes from the yamaha 01v.

Peace love unity and have it fun.

Tien bo larg pa naar trouv."
