"While working on an 80's ballad, this song came into fruition. With a little inspiration from my fellow You Tuber's.

And you will understand.
I use the basic "four on the floor" bass drum to get the show started with the TS 12's Patch-Cord siren sound. Add some high-hat and delayed snare with a bass line and we are off to the late 70's early 80's.

The usual influences are there; Go West, Vibraphonic, Duran Duran, and The Rippingtons to name a few.
Let's all have a fun Summer. Ballad to follow later on..."

Pittsburgh Modular VILFO Synthesizer Module Influence Control Voltage Test

YouTube via amphonic — June 21, 2010 — "Here is a quick video showing the Voltage Influence in action. The VILFO on the left is sent to the volt/octave input of a dot com oscillator playing a triangle wave. A second VILFO (on the right) is routed to the "Influence Control Voltage" input of the VILFO on the left. Only the VILFO on the left is controlling the oscillator.

Sorry if that sounds confusing."

Dreamsong 1983

YouTube via JeffreyPlaide — June 21, 2010 — "Dreamsong 1983 was my very first use of creating experimental music with the use of a multi-track recorder way back in 1983. Essentially it was an unsuccessful attempt at creating an interesting pop tune with a synthesizer, but I was young, and inexperienced in the structuring of musical compositions. This was the first composition to use multi-track facilities, and it was great to use the magic of over-dubbing, sound-on-sound effects and tape echo. This was a revelation for me in 1983. The track was produced using a very primitive setup only - just an open-reel tape recorder and a stereo cassette deck for mastering. The Realistic Concertmate MG-1 portable synthesizer was used. The bassline consists of a filtered and detuned sawtooth waveform. The melody and rhythm (short noise pulse reversed and played manually) were also created by the MG-1. The vocals were pitch-altered and tape-echo applied. The voice sounds female, but is in fact a male voice pitch-modified. No digital effects were used, and no equalisation applied. No rhythm units used and no sequencing. There weren't even any mixing facilities - only the use of a small mono mixdown box. The TEAC A-3400 4-track open reel recorder created the magic behind the composition. This classic analogue mutli-track model from TEAC came with sync-function and 7.5 and 15 inches per second tape speeds. There was also a pitch control and independent inputs and outputs for each channel. This machine was an affordable means to capture musical ideas by the solo musician in an era when cassette-based portastudios were a relatively new invention. Later on, experiments with tape loops and tape-splicing provided even greater means to create sound collages and special effects. In 2010 I re-mastered the work from metal audio cassette processed with dbx noise-reduction. The mono composition was given pseudo stereo by delaying left and right tracks very slightly and hard panning left and right and equalised to increase the bass. Dreamsong 1983 is important for me, in that it is the first real original experimental composition produced by any means."

Yamaha CS80

More pics here.

"After much deliberation and sadness I'm selling my CS-80. Just been serviced by Kent Spong so if you need to know tech info about what he did you're best getting in touch with him. I know that it works 100% and he fitted a ribbon controller which it lost at some point.

The CS I've owned since the early 90s. Used it sparingly until around 2006 when I got back into the sound of it. Massive service by Kent around then, its featured on an album I did. "The Meeting" by Hudson Fall. All the synths are the CS80. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbcuasedhH8 you can see it and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9vZVPnPrBo&feature=related you can hear it (its not the organ thing i'm pretending to play)!!" YouTube via arthurpainter — June 21, 2010 — "A simple dance for a simple beast, a large reptile that saw its coming and going during the age of dinosaurs. My EML 200 provides an apt analogy, having been wiped out by the introduction of cheap digital synths, a victim of its own simplicity. An enjoyable and effectively patched "beast" nonetheless."

Casiotone 701 Mystery Mod Discovered

via RYAN:
"This is a Casiotone 701, that was outfitted with a simple mod and sealed off to the outside.

What happened was...
I was playing a gig with my band, and my bandmate spilled wine on the keyboard during our set. It immediately failed. On our set break, I decided to open it up to try to wipe up some of the wine on the inside and see if it might come back to life, and that is when I discovered this after market modification and accompanying note/diagram. It was wrapped inside a spongy wrapping and stuffed underneath the key bed with the note rubber banded to it. The mounting hole was boarded up with an inconspicuous black panel; Thus, I never really noticed anything suspicious. I had a chance to get the keyboard up on the bench and trouble shoot the wine spill. Basically, it dried itself out into a functioning order. (I never trust a repair if you didn't do anything to fix it.) But anyway, this mod is very simplistic - incorporating individual 1/4 outputs for drums, rhythm and keyboard, respectively. The most promising feature is a keyboard fuzz output. They also took the time to wire a computer pin out to the keybed, some familiar but ancient looking 20 or so pin connector. I'm not sure if I will be able to utilize their function.
Are there avid mystery-mod cult practitioners that you know of who would hide such a thing?"

If anyone out there knows, feel free to comment.

Very Rare Steiner Minicon Mini Synthesizer

via this auction
"~~ Vintage 70's Steiner Microcon Mini Synthesizer!! ~~
~~~ Extremely Rare and hard to find ~~~
~~~~ Fantastic array of sounds made possible in a palm-sized package! ~~~~

~ This really packs a lot into such a small synth: 3 waveforms; Fine tunable VCO; LFO; great sounding voltage-controlled filter as well as a vcf in jack; and envelope generator. This incredible piece of kit can also send positive and negative triggers.

~ The casing is in great condition with no wear to the white lettering which can often be the case with items like this. There are a few scratches around the edges and chipped paint but only what is to be expected on a synth over 30 years old! It even has all of its original green felt feet!

~ The old style 2 prong plug has been changed for a fused 13 amp uk 3 pin plug. The original plug can be included (for restoration etc.)"

Roland OP-8 CV Interface

via this auction

"Excerpt from the manual:
The OP-8 is the interface designed to drive the Roland polyphonic synthesizer provided with the DCB system by the Microcomposer. Therefore, it is now made possible to control the Juno-60 or Jupiter-8 by the MC-4 or MC-8.

This is a very rare and hard to get hold of interface - own a piece of synthesis history!
A must for any owners of vintage Roland synths Juno-60 or Jupiter-8

The old-fashioned 2-pin plug has been replaced with a FUNKY (and safer) translucent blue UK 3-pin earthed plug!"

EML Model 101 Analog Semi-Modular

via this auction

"This is a 4 Oscillator analog semi-modular synth and is almost 40 yrs old. It is in excellent condition. All osc have sound, The 101 has a patch bay up top of controls. There is a lp, bp and hp filter. Anyone with any synth knowledge knows that this was in competition with the ARP 2600 and the MiniMoog of the early 70's. Although, this synth is more of an engineer's design it makes some amazing sounds. It also has the ability to create more than 13 sounds within the chromatic scale."

Moog Minimoog Model D with Oscillator Sync Mod

via this auction
"1974 Minimoog Model D, serial # 5479... In addition there is the custom pedalboard. The board has pedals for pitch bend, modulation, volume, and Delay hold. This frees up your left hand to play another synth while you play lead on the mini. It takes a little practice, but is really cool when mastered... A "Null Plug" (pictured) is included which plugs into the pedalboard port for use without the Pedalboard. The moog also has the trigger mod (which I have not ever tried, it was there when I bought it). Also, the unit has the Oscillator sync mod, which allows you to sync oscillators 2 and 3 to oscillator 1."
