ARP Explorer 1

via this auction

"This was made somewhere between 1974-78 so it's at least 32 years old and for it's age it is in remarkable condition really! There is one small chip on the wood of the left-hand side end cheek as you can see from the pictures. Other than that all knobs and sliders function with a small bit of crackle on the frequency. I think a bit of a clean with some switch cleaner should sort it out but I thought I'd better mention.

It sounds great, very organic and 'real' like analogue synths of this era do. It comes with all the music stand, original sound cards, also in great condition, the manual and service manual. This synth is perfect for a collector really.

Check out http://www.arpexplorer.com where you will find a resource page."

Future Retro Revolution

via this auction

"The Revolution is true analogue and all its sound is analogue generated except obviously the effects processor which is DSP based. The sequencer is just brilliant and once mastered you'll wonder how you ever did without it. (It really is that good). The CV and Gates allow me to control my Moog Rogue (also for sale) to get all the beeps and blips I ever needed. Imagine a 303 sequence but with a powerful Moog bass sound and you'll get the idea! … Now add some distortion! You can also route the signal from the headphone output back to modulate the filter's cutoff for some unusual self modulation effects. Experimenting with the ports at the back can lead to some crazy sounds indeed."

In doubt

YouTube via attorks | August 24, 2010

"Made this improvisation last evening. I was in doubt whether to share this video with you because I think the 'magic level' of the music is not that high. But maybe you think otherwise so here it is for you to judge. Row 1 of the Synthesizers.com Q960 sequencer drives the Synthesizers.com Modular. The Q963 trigger bus is used to mute individual steps for row 1. Row 2 drives the self-made Modular which 2 VCO's are set to an interval in the beginning of the video. Row 3 drives the Ian Fritz Teezer Through-Zero VCO which in its turn provides a triangle waveform to the Ian Fritz 5Pulser and a sawtooth waveform to the Blacet MiniWave. The outputs of the 5Pulser and the MiniWave are fed to the Resonant LoPass Gate which is modulated by the Ian Fritz All-In EG. The Roland XP-80 is used for the Mellotron strings sound. The Waldorf Q Keyboard is programmed with 4 different instruments. The solo's are performed on the Clavia Nord Lead 1 with some different voices.
You can see/hear/download the full 22 minute video and music from my website soon."

The REAL iPad Guitar Part 1

YouTube via ElectricAlienCat | August 24, 2010

"Testing out my new toy...

I made this iPad Guitar from bits and pieces from my local hardware store.
I've seen the other iPad Guitar on youtube by VJFranzK and it's pretty slick, but I wanted more of a guitar shape to my build. All I need to do now is add a mini mixer on the end with tweak-able fx knobs then it'd be great for a live setup, the possibilities!

This is the setup here:
Thumbjam app.
2 x iPod Touch's into mixing desk output to soundcard.
iPad into line in on my PodXT Live guitar fx pedal (doubles as a soundcard).
iPod Nano on the end for down the neck view.

Recording:
In my Multitracker for iPad (guitar) I've loaded a big sounding distortion using PodFarm 2 vst plugin. In ThumbJam the instrument is simply clean notes recorded from a Fender Strat. The iPod Touch's use (synthesized) orchestra notes recorded from my Roland RS5 keyboard. The sound from the iPad is recorded to my multitracker on my pc but uses a combination of sounds, vst fx (distortion) from PodFarm2 & wah sound + further distortion from the fx pedal board. The sound from the iPod touch's are recorded in ThumbJam and exported into the multitracker for syncing up.

More videos soon..."

Korg PE-1000 Poly Ensemble P SN 760006

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"Korg made these in the late (76-79/80) 70s and, along with the PE-2000 Poly Ensemble S, were meant to be stripped down performance versions of their PS-3x00 synthesizer line. The PE-1000 is fully polyphonic, it has an individual voltage-controlled oscillator for every key on the synth! This means you can individually tune each note on the keyboard via trimpots under a removable front panel--- I took a picture of this with the panel removed, but the panel is included in the auction and is in fine shape. If you want to try some fully analog microtonal synthesis, this is your guy. There is a single Korg Traveller LP/HP filter that the entire synth goes through. For more good info, see http://www.till-kopper.de/korg-pe1000.html"

Inside an E-mu Drumulator

via this auction
"E-mu Drumulator Drum Machine, MIDI, and EPROMS Kits
10 Different EPROM Drum Sets, Digidrums, 808, & MIDI

Up for auction is a rare E-mu Systems Drumulator in very clean condition. This Drumulator includes 10 different EPROM sound sets (kits), 5 ZIF sockets, MIDI, a new memory battery, and is in great cosmetic and perfect operating condition.

The Drumulator is a sample based drum machine from circa 1983. The original Drumulator stock sound set was gritty, lo-fi, 12-bit samples of basic drum sounds, which become a classic in many songs of the 80s. The company now known as Digidesign, or Avid (Pro Tools), created sound sets for the E-Mu Drumulator and other sample-based drum machines, called Digidrums Sound Chips. This auction includes 8 Digidrums Drumulator EPROM kits (5 EPROMs in each kit) in addition to the Drumulator stock drum kit, and a custom 808 sound kit from drummob.

The EPROM sockets inside the Drumulator have been outfitted with 5 removable high-quality EPROM ZIFs that allow for easily removing and installing of drum kits.

Note: That the DigiDrums EPROM kits included in this auction are not the originals, but replacements made from the original Digidrums chips (see link below to hear the kits).

The 10 EPROM Drumulator Drum Kits included with this auction are:
* Drumulator Stock Kit
* drummob TR-808 Kit
* Digidrums Electronic Drums 1
* Digidrums Electronic Drums 2
* Digidrums Rock Drums 1
* Digidrums Jazz Drums 1
* Digidrums Drums/Latin Percussion

* Digidrums Alt Drum Kit #3

This auction is for an all-original Rhythm King Mrk-2 analog "beat box" drum machine by Maestro, a division of Gibson. Sly Stone is said by many to have considered this "funk box" a key to his sound! The auction includes the original footswitch and the cover, which is in good shape but has a tear at one of the back corners. This classic gives you an amazing array of rhythm combinations available at your fingertips. Native Instruments Introduces ABBEY ROAD 80s DRUMS

"Native Instruments Introduces ABBEY ROAD 80s DRUMS

Berlin, August 24th, 2010 – Native Instruments today introduced ABBEY ROAD 80s DRUMS, the third instrument developed together with the iconic British recording studios. With two expertly engineered premium drum kits for use in the free KONTAKT PLAYER and the KONTAKT 4 sampler, ABBEY ROAD 80s DRUMS allows musicians and producers to recreate the defining drum sound of the 80s with the highest level of sonic fidelity and authenticity.

ABBEY ROAD 80s DRUMS contains two characteristic instruments that significantly contributed to the sound of the respective musical decade – a vintage Yamaha 9000, one of the most groundbreaking and most-recorded kits in music history, and a Slingerland Magnum Chrome with single-headed concert toms and a full set of Octobans, the melodically tuned tubular toms that were popular among drummers of that time. Both drum kits were set up and sampled with painstaking precision in Abbey Road's Studio Two and Studio Three, taking full advantage of the acoustic properties of these famous recording rooms.

ABBEY ROAD 80s DRUMS features an especially sophisticated implementation of the typical "gated reverb" technique that enabled the distinctive huge-but-tight drum sound of the 80s. Different sets of ambient microphones were used at Abbey Road to capture additional, strongly compressed versions of the room sound, including a mono overhead signal recorded through a STC 4021 "Ball and Biscuit" microphone and a specially built replica of the SSL E-Series talkback compressor, utilizing a further popular recording trick of that time.

Selected Neve preamps, an analog 2-inch tape machine and other exclusive outboard gear further contribute to the genuine, powerful sound character of ABBEY ROAD 80s DRUMS. Up to 27 velocity layers per instrument, each with up to six additional variation samples, guarantee maximum authenticity both for rhythm programming and for real-time MIDI-controlled playing. The highly functional user interface offers convenient control over all articulation, sound shaping, mixing and routing functions, with envelopes and volume of the gated ambience individually adjustable per instrument group. Advanced randomization can even add subtle nuances to the tone and timing to make it virtually indistinguishable from a studio-recorded drum performance.

More information on ABBEY ROAD 80s DRUMS can be found at
