"Flautina" - Flute Concertina for the iPhone/iPod Touch

YouTube via tradlessons | October 06, 2010

"Flautina is a two-octave flute played like an English Concertina.

It is very easy to play, extremely responsive, and sounds very authentic.

The sounds are recorded from my personal 1857 Metzler wooden flute.

The chromatic range is from D4 to C#6.

Touch the '?' icon to show the names of the notes on the buttons.

Touch the 'i' icon to bring up the settings page. You can also visit the app support website by touching the Tradlessons logo on this page.

You can play along with the music on your iPhone/iPod Touch by starting the track using the iPod app, then launching Flautina.

When Charles Wheatsone designed the English concertina, he set it up to match sheet music, the right side is the notes between the lines and the left side is the notes on the lines.

Because English Concertinas play the same note both on a push or a pull of the bellows, it is a very easy instrument to play on the iPhone or iPod Touch.

You simply touch the buttons on the screen to play the notes. The spacing is exactly the same as the real instrument.

To play, hold the iPhone or iPod Touch between your thumb and little fingers of both hands, exactly like a real English Concertina, and press the buttons with your index and middle fingers. Scales alternate between the fingers of the right hand. Notes are higher in pitch as you move from the outside to the middle of the screen.

Flautina runs on the iPhone and iPod Touch."

Alesis Micron Synthesizer with custom modifications

via this auction

"The LEDs were all changed to blue, pink and ultraviolet, and I made makeshift wooden end cheeks, stained a reddish tone to match the red and silver look of the keyboard. Moog style knobs were added to make the thing look more classic. I will also include the original knobs and end cheeks, so you can change it back to stock if you prefer."

Technos Acxel Track - FRACTASTIC VOYAGE (To Infinity and Beyond) Part 1

YouTube via DonGarbutt | October 06, 2010

See the Acxel label at the bottom of this post for all posts on this unique synthesizer.
"Stunning fractal images have been added to a piece that was made back in 1988, using the Technos Acxel. Dense, random clouds of evolving sound emanate from the Canadian-made Acxel-1 (Acxel-2 is in development and is coming soon). Make sure that you watch part 2 as well."

FRACTASTIC VOYAGE (To Infinity and Beyond) Part 2

DonGarbutt | October 06, 2010

"Explore the wonderful world of fractal art. A fractal is "a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole,"[1] a property called self-similarity. Roots of mathematically rigorous treatment of fractals can be traced back to functions studied by Karl Weierstrass, Georg Cantor and Felix Hausdorff in studying functions that were continuous but not differentiable; however, the term fractal was coined by BenoƮt Mandelbrot in 1975 and was derived from the Latin fractus meaning "broken" or "fractured." A mathematical fractal is based on an equation that undergoes iteration, a form of feedback based on recursion."

Prophet-5 Synthesizer with MIDI

via this auction

"The Prophet 5 is the most classic synthesizer of the eighties! It is capable of a delightful analog sound unique to Sequential's Prophet series in which the P5 was King! Five voice polyphony - two oscillators per voice and a white noise generator. The analog filters, envelope and LFO all sound great and are extremely flexible. The P5 has patch memory storage as well, which scans and memorizes every knob setting for storing and recalling your sounds. This specific unit has original owners manual and original cassette with loadable factory preset sounds."

"This is a musical exploration experience in which multiple participants simultaneously interact with a sound synthesizer by arranging a special set of pieces on top of a multitouch surface.

Pieces exhibit different behaviours when placed on the surface - some act like triggers in a drum machine, some behave like a kaoss pad, while others add extra layers of sound to make the performance really come together. Pieces are sensitive to their position and orientation on the table, so users can cycle through different instruments or modulate sound parameters with a simple twisting or sliding motion.

We believe the key here is to design a system which is simple enough for people with little musical ability to enjoy, while providing enough control to allow people with a stronger background to deliver more complex performances. It´s similar to the reactable, but provides a simpler interface for everyone to enjoy.

"Last week I started another new DIY project. It is a SammichSID synthesizer. Actually I will be building two of them one for my Friend Hans and one for myself. It is a bit like the MB-6582 I build before but a bit simpler. It has only 2 SID chips on board. But it will have that same fat Commodore 64 sound that brings you back to the 80's right away."

StepPolyArp - Midi Step Polyphonic Arpeggiator for the iPad

"StepPolyArp is a midi step polyphonic arpeggiator. The arpeggiator does not play any sound itself, it transmits midi notes to a Mac or a PC to be used in combination with any sequencer, virtual instrument (VSTi, Audio Unit) or midi synthesizer.

The arpeggiator can transform chords into sequences of notes played one after the other in several ways. A matrix polyphonic step modulate arpeggiated notes in time and pitch. The main controllers (velocity, modulation, panning, volume, aftertouch, and pitch bend) are also programmable through a step editor. The integrated keyboard automatically adapts to the selected musical scale.

Features:

* 32 steps programmable matrix
* 11 configurable transposition lines
* Features copy and paste
* 8 octaves virtual keyboard
* Velocity, modulation, pan, volume, aftertouch and pitch bend step controller
* The apeggiator and keyboard fit the selected scale
* 6 arpeggiator modes
* 1 chord mode
* Unlimited number of saves
* Random patterns creation
* Presets manager
* Presets shared between computer and iPad using iTunes 9.1 or later
* 128 Undo/Redo levels

"Dark Signals" by Mark Mosher (Live Rehearsal Video)

"Dark Signals" by Mark Mosher (Live Rehearsal Video) from Mark Mosher on Vimeo.

"'Dark Signals' is a song from my album I Hear Your Signals. This video is in HD and I captured the audio full fidelity right from my sound card in real-time and made note edits. It's one of my favorite songs off the album and is becoming a crowd favorite at live shows. A dark original electronica song with driving big beats, bit-crushed high-hats, a dash of ambient texture, and tasty distorted synth leads. Checkout the rippin' synth solo at the 1:42 mark performed live from a Tenori-On matrix controller sending notes to a virtual synth running in Ableton Live. The Moog Etherwave Theremin signal is being converted from analog back to digital and is driving virtual synths as well.

You can buy the album name your prices ($0 for Free) over at markmosher.bandcamp.com.

"Alone" by Mark Mosher played on AudioCubes (Rehearsal) from Mark Mosher on Vimeo.

"In this video I'm playing my original instrumental electronic music song "Alone" from my album REBOOT markmosher.bandcamp.com/album/... .

I'm about half way through arranging and programming the synthesizers and controllers so I can add this song to my live set. I'm making great progress so I thought I'd share a rehearsal video.

It's such an organic piece, I decided to play the entire song from Percussa AudioCubes using only spatial hand movement. Ableton Live is playing back the pulsing drone, but almost all other elements are being played live via the AudioCubes. The AudioCubes are in "sensor" mode so placing my hand in front of a cube face plays a note on a virtual synthesizer hosted out of Live - almost like a Laser harp.

I only use the Novation Launchpad to change which tracks are armed thereby allowing me to switch which synths I'm playing on-the-fly throughout the song.

At the 2:00 minute mark I start playing chords by using multiple faces simultaneously.
