KOPRO Demo - Kaossilator Song

YouTube via peasant2general | May 11, 2010 | 4 likes, 0 dislikes

"This video was done with the intention of fully using the kaossilator pro´s capacities, including the vocoder, some of my favorite patches, the rythms and the capacity to mute one of the four loops.

The vocals were input using an Audio Technica AT2020, routed through a mixer for phantom power and into the line input of the KOPRO.

The visuals were directly recorded from Windows Media Player, using Battery randomization.

I own the rights for this song, if you look to post it, please ask permission."

"Over the last few years on the night before the Hampshire Jam electronic music festival a special 'Pre-Jam' event has taken place. This year was a much more informal affair. The rules were simple, only 1 piece of sound producing kit plus some fx per musician (kaossilators allowed as an extra).
The result was a very laid back experimental ambient affair lasting approx 2.5 hours. This clip shows the opening 10 mins."

synth spotting...
"Hello - I make and release electronic music under the artist name Solvent:

http://www.soundcloud.com/solvent

I have been asked a number of times to make a video tour of my studio, so here it is. Sorry for the poor video quality.

As for the soundtrack -- See my previous video demonstration of the MFB Urzwerg sequencing a Roland SH-101 and EHX Memory Boy... well I recorded about an hours' worth of tweaking with that setup, and what you're hearing here is a bunch of sections and loops from that session thrown together rather haphazardly in Ableton. Everything you're hearing is SH-101 and Memory Boy, beside 1 brief loop featuring my 1-of-a-kind Mike Irwin System 700 Phaser clone, which has a CV-in. No post-processing at all, although I guess I did slow down the tempo in Ableton towards the end, but that is the only digital effect here.

Lo-fi electro dub? I particularly like the bit that sounds like it came from the "It Takes Two" loop."

Hinton Customised 30 x 30 MIDI Routing Matrix and Mergers

via Hinton Instruments

"Hinton Instruments have supplied Guthrie Theater, Minneapolis with a customised version of MIDIX30 Routing Matrix with additional 4:1 and three 2:1 MIDIY Mergers. The unit will route all MIDI control for three theatres from a common machine room.

The MIDIX was chosen for its reliability, serviceability and because it is a hardware router with minimum delays and distortion. The MIDIX30 is equivalent to sixteen of the 8×8 software routers it replaced and which had proven to be too unreliable.

MIDIX is fully RS232 controlled and has many advanced features including MIDI Recall, Illegal routing definitions, Events, Messages and diagnostic monitoring. The mergers are also RS232 controlled and have comprehensive filtering of all MIDI Statuses and large buffers.

All MIDI I/O is on DB25 connectors with 5 ports per connector. Heavy duty tie bars support multicore cable looms."

Animation modulating Audio via MIDI CC

Animation modulating Audio via MIDI CC from AntonAudio on Vimeo.

"Another experiment using Quartz Composer. I’m using some Low Frequency Oscillators in Quartz Composer to animate layers of my logo graphic. These LFO’s are also sending MIDI CC messages which are being received by Kore’s preset morphing parameter:

-There is an LFO animating the rotation of the logo, this is also modulating the Y axis of the Kore morph parameter grid.
-There are also some LFO’s animating the several radius diameters of the logo, these are modulating the X axis of the Kore morph parameter grid.

I have also assigned a knob on my MIDI controller keyboard to the frequency of the LFO in Quartz Composer which is modulating the radius movement ( which in turn is modulating the X parameter in Kore:) Obviously I could just modulate Kore with MIDI (or the dedicated Kore controller which I also own;) but the exercise here was to have the animation movement modulate some audio. The audio loaded in Kore is from the Reaktor Animated Circuits soundpack."

Yamaha SK15

via this auction

"The organ sound uses FM synthesis which is the same technology that Yamaha incorporated later into the DX7. It has 3 voices total. The other two voices are pure analog. One is a string synth similar to the Arp String synth, the other voice is an analog synth with adjustable cut-off, attack, decay, etc.. All three voices can be combined, you can control the volume of each voice, and they can be routed through the Leslie simulator, which is quite realistic. The SK15's are very similar to the SK 20's with the exception of the multi-pin Leslie connector on back of the SK20. Unlike other SK synthesizers, this SK15 lets you control the Leslie speeds with a foot control (included) via 1/4 inch jack on the back panel (a very useful modification). The leslie ramps up or down, gradually increasing or decreasing speed. It's a great effect to use on crescendos, or on choruses of songs... The organ section gives you the option, of percussion, sustain, and vibrato."

Oberheim OB-Mx

via this auction
"The OB-Mx is a modern synthesizer with an entirely analog audio path. It has an intuitive interface making it easy to program some unique sounds. You can get some great classic Oberheim and Minimoog sounds out of this thing, and it is completely programmable and MIDI compatible. This is one of the only real analog synths with modern features. It has one 2-voice card that contains two oscillators, four multistage envelopes, three LFOs and filters. You can upgrade the unit and add up to 5 more cards to get even more polyphony.
This is the standard factory-issued 2-voice unit." Is it two oscillators per voice for four total, or it it actually one per voice?

New EMS SYNTHI Update - Pricing

via someone on the AH list:

"I spoke to Robin Wood the other day and he expects to have Synthi A & VCS3 models for sale again in 2011. Clearly he's not overly concerned with commerce, which is a rare and beautiful thing these days, as apparantly I'm number 68 on the waiting list and the synths will sell for approximately GBP 3500 each which, by my calculation, represents potential initial income from sales in the region of GBP 250,000.

That being half the current price of a VCS3 presumably, for a number of us who regret not having bought one when they were virtually valueless in the mid 1980s, they will be back within financial reach."

Oakley Noise and Dual Filter Module PCBs Now Available

http://www.oakleysound.com/noise.htm
"The Oakley Noise and Dual Filter module is used to generate non pitched sounds such as wind, surf and other ethereal sounds. It can also be used as a sound source for percussive sounds like cymbals and snare drums.

Two types of noise output are provided. White noise which when unfiltered sounds like gas escaping, and pink noise which sounds more like a big waterfall. The module's pink noise circuitry comprises of a complex cascade network designed to replicate the -3dB/octave low pass response that true pink noise requires.

The module also gives a very low frequency output or infra-red signal. This can be heard as a series of random thumps when listened too, but it is actually a randomly varying output voltage changing all the time, sometimes quickly and sometimes hardly at all. Fascinating to watch when it controls an LED, but it comes into its own when controlling filter cut-off on an otherwise static sound.

This module also features two separate and quite unusual voltage controlled one pole filters; one high pass and one low pass. A one pole filter produces a gentle -6dB/octave roll off for natural sounding noise effects. These are internally normalised to the noise generator's output, but may also be used separately to process other sound sources too.

The two filters are both voltage controlled so the cut off frequency may be controlled by an external CV signal from, perhaps, an ADSR, LFO or midi-CV convertor. A front panel pot and three way switch allows you to control the depth of the modulation for either or both filters. The pot is a 'reversible attenuator, so you are able to control not only the depth of the modulation but also the polarity.

The noise source is true analogue, a reverse biased PNP transistor."
