Wavemakers Site Update - Dr. Terry Kincaid

via John Loffink

"Announcing a very exciting update for the Wavemakers web site. For the first time ever, photos of Dr. Terry Kincaid with his Wavemakers instruments in the 1970s, including an early prototype."

You can find the pics and history on the rare Wavemakers synthesizer on the Wavemakers history page.

"Terry Kincaid has been described as a unique individual and a genius by people who knew him well. Though his degrees were in music, he taught himself electronics well enough to make synthesizers that were competitive with contemporaries such as Moog and Arp. Terry even taught himself German so he could converse with German customers. In his later years he built computers from scratch. What Terry may have lacked was marketing and business sense, selling his synthesizers for little more than they cost in parts, and with little margin to pay for his labors."

Be sure to see the rest of the Wavemakers site as well if you haven't already. It's a fascinating bit of synth history.

Introducing The Missing Link Wireless OSC/MIDI Translator

"The Missing Link OSC/MIDI Translator is a standalone hardware device which contains its own WiFi radio, and translates specially-coded OSC messages sent from your mobile device or computer into standard MIDI messages to control synthesizers, drum machines, mixers, digital audio workstations, or anything which responds to MIDI commands. It does this with low latency, high flexibility and configurability, and without the need for a computer anywhere in the control chain. Multiple wireless OSC devices may connect simultaneously to The Missing Link, making collaboration easy.

The Missing Link presents a breakthrough in MIDI technology by leveraging the power and easy configurability of mobile OSC apps already available for a variety of platforms, to control MIDI devices without the complication of WiFi or software translators, while at the same time freeing your device from cabling. It is truly the first and only device of its kind.

Pre-order sales are now being taken for the first production run of 100 units. Units are already being built, and will be shipping soon. The price is $150, available directly from http://www.wifimidi.com.

ARP Synthesizer Collection: Odyssey, Omni, & Sequencer

via this auction
via the seller:
"The service performed on these units was done as follows: All switches, jacks, etc., were all cleaned and tested. All electrolytic and tantalum capacitors have been replaced with high quality components on all three units. All of the sliders were replaced on the Odyssey with upgraded parts from Synthrestore.uk. There were about 10 sliders that were open circuit so I replaced them all. The Omni had the early design problematic CMOS chips replaced with modern chips. These were located in the phaser and the bass key circuits. The 4072 Filter Modules in the Odyssey and Omni were upgraded for extended frequency. All power supplies were calibrated. All internal calibration adjustments were tested and adjusted where needed."

Elektor Formant Modular Synthesizer

via this auction
"Elektor Formant Modular Synthesizer System very rare
Unique Opportunity
Early German 1970s

great condition custom/built Formant Modular System with keyboard it apparently came also from the very respected "martin Newcomb Synth collection " and is pictured in the Peter Forrest A to Z books

there is a fair amount of historical information on the Formant Modular on the internet a useful link is...

It has been fully restored by the synth guru at KSR ( kent spong ) each and every function configuration is

4 x VCO
2 x VCF 12db
1 X VCF 24db
1 x RFM (Resonance Filter)
2 x COM (Control and Output)
2 x LFO (Triple/Multi LFO Module) 6 LFOs in total
4 x ADSR
1 x ADSR Controller
2 x Dual VCA
1 x Noise
1 x Anlogue controller Keyboard and inter-connect cable

The specification is high and powerfull

This particular example has been very well constructed and as you can see from the pictures is in very good condition and being pure"old" analouge sounds extraordinary

Following the standard form-factor of most 1V/Oct analogue systems this Formant system would fit nicely into any existing analogues setup and being of 1970s German design offers the purist something really very special and different from the more contemporary modulars on offer these days

the recently full service by KSR is still under warranty aswell

Runs on EU voltage 220V"

Tama Techstar TS 204 Electronic Voice Module - 808 Clap

via this auction
"Tama Techstar TS 204 Electronic Voice Module. This is the very rare "Synth," drum and "Hand Clap," module in the Tech Star series, perfect for that 80's analog bass drum sound, and of course, the venerable hand-clap. This unit is truly analog, too! Trigger inputs are standard (mono) 1/4" inputs, two for each channel-one is a Roland type trigger or gate input and the other is a audio to drum trigger ( even microphones) can be used to trigger the sound. There are a total of 4 trigger inputs, 2 separate audio outs , 1 mix audio out

The analog "Synth," bass drum sound has seven knobs for adjusting the decay, modulation, tone, tuning, noise, triangle/square wave and noise levels, getting and excellent 808/909 type sound. The "Hand Clap," features reverb time and level adjustments-its an exact replica of 808 clap but with far more control"

Triangle Wave Oscillator 3 channel Synth Project

via this auction
"Here's a great 3 channel Triangle wave oscillator, onboard isolated powersupply (12vdc). The case was a new Radio Shack Video to RF converter, but I gutted it, modified the power supply to get 12 volts DC to run the 3 channel circuits inside it. As you can see in the Scope photo's, the 3 channels has thier own adjustable settings. 1, 2, and 3, outputs are RCA on the back. Switch for on/off. Nice and clean outputs. This will work great for adding LFO's to other synth's you might have or just use it to control other projects. Case is 3 x 5 7/8 x 1 3/8 inches, four rubber feet under the case. Nice and compacted. Runs on 120Vac only!!!!!!"
