Jasuto Pro modular synthesizer currently $1.99

"Jasuto Pro is worlds first (and most powerful) modular synthesizer for the iDevices. The Pro version includes everything that's in the cheaper Classic version and much more!

Jasuto Pro allows you to visually construct your own synths/effects, and use them to make sequences all on your device! With the addition of a fully-featured sampler you can now record/resample/edit, and even create entirely new samples by drawing right in the app.

Jasuto Pro uses the relative position of nodes and their connections to control the sound. So the scene not only represents the synthesis structure, but also a custom multi-touch control surface. Motion can be recorded per node giving you rich, flexible automation.

Connections can be created automatically by simply dragging nodes around, or manually. Each wire can be double-tapped to allow even more control of each connection.

Jasuto Pro comes installed with more than 45 modules. Each of the modules have been hand-optimized for your devices CPU, allowing you to create extremely complex scenes.

Jasuto Pro has a built-in FTP server, so you can efficiently transfer files to/from your device using your OS or FTP client. Also the new scene browser has the ability to download/upload/rate user created content from the ever growing community!

[NOTABLE FEATURES]
-anti-aliased oscillators with hard-sync, FM, PWM, PM.
-analog style filters (lp, hp, bp, ladder emulation).

Roland SH-09 Demo.wmv

YouTube via birbabirbabirba | December 18, 2010 |

"Roland SH-09 (1980) Demo

Various sounds and settings of my little vintage Roland SH-09 (vco with and without suboscillator, waveform and octave changes, various filter cutoff and resonance settings, s/h filter modulation). Sequenced by a MFB Step 64, delay added. 30 years ago, this was one of the cheapest monosynths on the market, just a low-cost Minimoog alternative. Anyway, even if it lacks a second vco for oscillator beatings, compared to actual digital and virtual analogue synths this little thing rocks! The SH-09 was one if not the last Roland monosynth entirely build with discrete electronic components so it is also easy to repair."

Minimoog D vs. Synthesizers.com.wmv

YouTube via birbabirbabirba | January 06, 2011 | 6 likes, 0 dislikes

"This is a side by side comparison betweeen my Minimoog D from 1978 (featuring the new oscillator board introduced after SN 10175) and my Synthesizers.com modular, equipped with 3 VCO's and the Moog 904-A filter clone produced by Mos-Lab in France. Of course this is just a rough demo, because it's not that easy to set the 904-A and the Mini's filter exactly the same in real time because of their different architecture. I used the Mos-Lab 904-A instead of Dotcom's Q150 for no particular reason, they sound almost identical (see my demo about those filters). The VCO's also are set with the same waveforms (equal wide square wave) and octave intervals. The Dotcom is on the left, the Mini on the right channel, some delay added (be sure your speakers or earphones are correctly connected...)."

Build Your Own Nerdy Antiquated Obsolete 7 Segment Display Lady GaGa / Daft Punk VJ Glasses

YouTube via bd594 | January 22, 2011 | http://www.youtube.com/user/bd594

Not directly synth, but the DIY aspect can be applied and it was sent in.

"Long before Daft Punk's motor cycle helmets with LED messages scrolling by or Lady GaGa's video display glasses we were apart of a generation limited to displaying text on calculators with small indistinguishable red coloured displays......Oh Joy..... I remember as a kid running around the house showing my family how to spell words like "bOObS", "hEllO" and "ShEll". This was accomplished by entering in certian numbers then holding the calculator upside down.....Ah memories. It appears that 8 bit music is being intergrated into popular music each day i.e. "The Time (dirty bit) by The Black Eye Peas". So why not build your own pair of archaic antiquated 10 digit 7 segmented display glasses. Just image you will be able to star in your own music videos or just stand out in the crowd in the middle of the dance floor. Should any drinks be dropped in your lap or thrown in your face have no fear of electrocution because these glasses can easily operate on battery power. Should you decide to be a Super Uber Geek and build your own glasses utilizing Nixie tubes than I am not resposible for your hair catching on fire or tempoary blindness caused by the 170+ volts coarsing through your temples. If you are still interseted in obtaing the schematic and PIC basic code then send me your email address.

enjoy
James"

Surachai Interviews Randy Jones of Madrona Labs

Interview on TRASH_AUDIO
Intro: "For the past few years I haven’t really been interested nor following softsynths. Because of the versatility of my modular system and the reluctance to click and drag knobs – I’ve been avoiding softsynths like I avoid being in the sun. This has changed! Madrona Labs has created Aalto, a softsynth unlike anything I’ve used and heard before. It’s refreshing to sit on a plane and wish it was longer so you could continue to work on a patch! Also it’s cheap if you want to compare it to other softsynths, only $99! So support the small independent company and get it! Below I talk to Randy Jones about Aalto but first here is an example of some of its capabilities using 3 instances of Aalto in a session..." [link]

This is a great piece of software. A demo version is available.

New Steiner Synthasystem Progress

via Analogue Realities where you'll find the full post:

"The project is getting very close to fruition. I've recently tested and now have working the VC Trigger Generator, Noise, Selective Inverter, Phase Shifter, Voltage Processing Module, and tonight, the Tuner Monitor. The Voltage Follower (slew or portamento), Ring Modulator, and Input Amplifier prototypes have shipped and should be here early next week. After that, I need to finish up some panels and then order some production PCBs.

Nyle came over last night and spent a few hours helping me go through the Selective Inverter. It is a very interesting module, and I don't quite know how to explain it. I guess because I'm still trying to understand it. It was a specialty module Nyle built for a customer and very few were every built."

NEW 2011 Optigan 2-Disc Style-Pak - STRINGS

YouTube via optigandotcom | January 22, 2011 |

"Now taking pre-orders at http://www.optigan.com/content/shopti...

Optigan is proud to present our first 2-disc Style Pak release, STRINGS, offered at a 2-for-1 price! The two discs are individually titled CHAMBER STRINGS and SYMPHONIC STRINGS. This is a very utilitarian sound set for the Optigan, featuring the "Violin" and "String Ensemble" keyboard sounds previously only available on the Orchestron, each with matching string pads on the chord buttons. There are no drums or other rhythmic effects- just lush, lo-fi stringy goodness. Please excuse the inept noodling of this sound demo!

A special note about the chords: for these discs, we've decided to put proper A and E major chords on their respective chord buttons, which in turn renders most of the diminished chord buttons incorrectly labeled. To compensate, we've put the A and E dim chords on the SFX 4 and 5 tabs. Also, SFX tabs 1-3 are Fsus4, Csus4 and Gsus4 respectively.

Music produced, edited, and mastered by Pea Hicks.
