Agony

YouTube via Uploaded by attorks on Mar 10, 2011

"About 2 weeks ago I bought a second hand Doepfer A-189-1 Voltage Controlled Bit Modifier. I build a +/-15V to +/-12V converter to power the module (though not necessary I understood) and now it's working. And yes, I now can reproduce that beautiful Mark Shreeve bass sound with that metal edge to it. Anyway, this is a new improvisation but I heard some elements of the Warriors Theme I did before.

The Synthesizers.com Modular , which is connected to the Doepfer A-189-1 module, initially does a 4-step sequence and after a while I switch that to an 8-step sequence. The sawtooth output Ian Fritz Teezer Through-Zero VCO is modulated by the GCS Steiner filter and drives the Blacet Miniwave. This produces a modulated sound. This procedure is described on the Muff's forum by Volt and is called 'MiniWave Table Tilting'. The self-built Modular does a 4-step sequence. The theme is played on the Roland XP-80 doing the Mellotron strings. The Waldorf Q Keyboard produces some agonizing sounds and the odd solo is performed on the Clavia Nord Lead 1.

You can download/see/hear the video and music from my website soon."

Mike Cook - Hexome, Tangible Music Interface 2011

follow-up to this post
"Hexome is a hexagonal version of the open hardware monome music controller.
A Monome is a well known undedicated controller much used in music. Traditionally these are an arrangement of switches and lights in a rectangular grid. This imposes a certain restriction on the sorts of interaction the user can have with the controller. In an attempt to explore other configurations I built the Hexome, a Monome with a hexagonal layout.
The Hexome consists of an arduino processor, 16 bit port expander, and three multiplexed fully dimming TLC5940 LED drivers. Each switch is illuminated by an RGB LED allowing flexibility of display colours.

The bluebox MK II

"The old orange LED's are replaced with white LED's. New for this version is that bluebox MK II has a built-in flashlight that is activated when you press the knob inwards when you turn on the power. It will give you a nice even light in dark places, when all other lights go out. The second thing is that the signal flow is improved for better filter response, but all parameters and functions are the same as in the current version.

The third thing is that the price will be slightly higher for the bluebox MK II. The current price for the current bluebox is only 195 EUR. It has a totally unique sound and has functions that no other synthesizer can match regardless of price-range. We will continue to sell the current version for one or maybe 2 weeks until we release the bluebox MK II that will probably cost about 285 EUR.

More about the synthesizer here... digitalsoundchips.com"

Rare EMU Emax Rack Sampler Serial #001

via this auction
"Up for auction is a vintage EMU Emax sampler Rack serial # 001. This synth comes with one floppy disk that has some orchestral sounds to get you started. It is in near perfect conditon phisically and only has a couple minor scratches on the case. All functions work perfectly and loads samples fine. The one problem I did find is there is a large pop when this sucker is powered on. I am not sure what the deal is- I have seen people sell power supplies for these on ebay before so maybe this is an issue with these machines. Overall this synth is physically awesome. You can tell that this synth is still possibly in the prototype stage due to the strange plastic stickers that mark the individual outputs on the back. I was given this synth by the original owner and it has been racked its entire life in a smoke free studio. This auction will include the synth, a power cable and one disk... Here is a chance to own a peice of sampler history!..."

ORIGINAL PRINTED MATERIAL INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
-COMPLETE TOM OPERATION MANUAL BOOKLET
-MODEL 420 TOM CONTROLS AND INDICATORS

Waldorf MiniWorks 4-Pole MIDI Analog Synth Style Filter

via this auction
"The MiniWorks is a stand-alone 4-pole resonant analog filter and modulation module. Use it to create those Daft-Punk filter sweeps on entire drum & rhythm loops!

Run any sounds, synthesizers or loops through it and filter them with a truly analog-like VCF filter that is not only very flexible but MIDI controllable as well!

There are many modulation sources that can be programmed between the extensive VCF, VCA, envelope and LFO sections and these settings can be stored in the (20) user memory patches.

The MiniWorks can also be overloaded for a lo-fi crunchy sound too! If it were a true stereo filter it would be perfect (input is mono, output is stereo), but in its price range it is the best analog filter module available!"

Update via Qwave in the comments: "This is the second revision with the 12 V power input. It features the same filter design as the Waldorf Pulse. The first revisions used the Curtis CEM 3387 filter chip. More details at http://faq.waldorfian.info/4-pole-inside.html. The beta-test and first revision are Georg "swissdoc" Müller 4-poles. The second revision with the 12 V input is mine. And they do sound very different ! But which you prefer is a matter of taste."
